Your translator seems lazy or not very good. The guy mentioned all those countries and said we know their histories since people from all those countries came to help the Mujhideen (assuming in Soviet Soviets times).
Also the statue was blown up out of protest. Afghanistan was going through a famine and instead of NGOs helping to feed kids they wanted to spend millions to restore the Buddha.
It wasn't religiously motivated as Islam allows freedom of religion. Also the story of Abraham and the statues is specific to him and his people. It can't be used to break random statues that belong to other religions. It won't help in bringing people to the truth. Education is the way forward.
Best to ask a scholar/Shaykh.
I believe that statue was erected the before the Islam came to that part of the world and people of Afghanistan were Buddhist at the time! As a people of the land are now almost all Muslims and there is no body to worship that statue, there is no reason to let it remain there! From East Africa

Akhi we only speak Farsi, Pashto and Uzbeki in Afghanistan. Farsi is spoken by every ethnicity and pashto is spoken by the pashtuns. Tho some afghans may understand urdu or hindi because of bollywood being popular in Afghanistan

@@abdixplorerThey speak pashto in Kandahar. Southeren and South-easteren parts of Afghanistan such as Jalalabad and Kandahar are mainly pashtuns. Northeren parts such as Balkh and Kunduz are Tajiks and Uzbeks while the rest of Afghanistan is tajik aswell or pashtun but persianised pashtun. Im from Mazar-E-Sharif and I dont understand nor speak pashto at all, We’re taught farsi but since the Taliban took over - I dont know if they’re going to change the rules

there reason why taliban destroy the statues is because they asked international community to send money for starving children and women and they said there wasn't any. but when it came to preserving the statues they suddenly had plenty of money to send. so taliban said if u can do that then we'll destroy the statues. it had nothing to do with religion but rather international countries nd their interests in afghanistan.
