Dude I binged a few seasons summer 2019 before covid, there was this chick that lived in an apartment in New York or something like that going like "I'm prepping for a pandemic flu!" I remember thinking that is the lamest reason I've heard yet.
I bet she was bragging to everyone "you allllll thought I was stupid!" "who's stupid now? Bet you all wish you had prepped now!"
Ex-mormon here, previous mormon prophets taught prepping as official doctrine and pushed members to keep a safety stock in case of the "second coming"
I love how the only religion to survive the fallout apocalypse was the Mormons because of that. I love how they also practically worship John Browning as a Mormon who made the means to protect themselves.
My great-grandmother had some mormon family who convinced her to stock up for y2k. We recently cleaned out her house and found a shitton of wheat, rice and canned shit from the early 90s
I won’t lie I used to laugh at these people when I watched the prepper show growing up but after what we’ve been through these last few years never mind my apologies lol

I think people really underestimate manpower. Shtf in the Yugoslavia Civil War and everyone not in the government or rebels were under the mercy of gangs and from there gangs recruited people with skills. Peppers who don't want anyone unless they have skills forget people often pool together skills during shtf and war since it only takes one desperate person to snipe your medic or electrician to make your entire group suffer. You need pool skills together, you also need to trade for parts for unforseen events. Snipers were a huge problem for people under these circumstances.
Yugoslavia having a civil war and society collapsing are different and entail different scenarios.

90s black out was wild but 2003 was next level i was 8 when it happened and my dad had a weapon stashed in every corner and in the yard
Was gonna say, I thought he meant the early 2000's one.. I was at work.. and we have backup generators so I just kept working, and because I work in TV/NEWS I was there until 10pm.. the drive home was amazing.. I heard crickets on the highway in the middle of the city

I'm a casual prepper. Try to maintain 1 year of food/water and have a gas generator. Main way to prep is to 1. Stay fit 2. Train with firearms (fuck the law btw) 3. Learn to grow/raise food.
Keeping a decade worth of MREs in a box and having an arsenal of weapons in a bunker will only get you so far of you're fat and unhealthy.
There are a few that defentally had it to gether and would be ok, but the vast majority of them would be gone with in the first month. The worst ones are the "buggout" preppers. They always show them timing them getting their buggout location on a day with regular traffic. Take one look at the roads anytime there is a disaster and you know you wouldn't make it out to that location.

Prepping the right way would definitely help your family, also knowing how to use your weapons will always help. But thinking you’ll larp as a soldier just isn’t the case for most people.

The problem is these reality show showcases the extreme. The regular prepared person is not showing everyone there supplies and is just being ready for realistic situations like economic depression or natural disasters

If you look at the cost of food and cost of living, the value of the dollar is ridiculously low, as most currency today btw, but the peso is 15% stronger vs dollar than it was 3 years ago, Mexico isnt growing economically it is slowing down, but somehow not as fast as the USA, unlike most of the currency the dollar is often compared to, basically currency often compared to the dollar is decreasing in value faster than the dollar, making the dollar seem strong, but it is only losing value at a slower pace, just look at the prices at the supermarket clearly the dollar has lost a lot of value in the last 3 years, this is the most critical time to prep, stack dry foods and water barrels, stop buying starbucks and buy gold/silver instead

While if someone who stock piles recourses has to worry about anyone who meets then robbing them for their wealth which makes it hard to make any sustainable community it only takes one greedy person
