First aid training, including maintenance of currency, should be mandatory for all adults who are mentally and physically capable. As a minimum, having up to date first aid skills should be a condition of driving licences. In most countries drivers involved in an accident that causes injuries are required to provide assistance to the injured people but that requirement is quite useless if the drivers don't know what they are doing. Twice I have used my battlefield first aid training to save lives. Both times were motor vehicle accidents. In one case though two of the casualties died because none of the five adults present at the scene before I arrived knew enough basic first aid to apply tourniquets stop arterial bleeding.
