- Donald Trump and controversy had a habit of finding each other long before he became President - as the residents of Balmedie in Aberdeenshire well know - after a bitter fight over his plans for a golf course.

Mr Trump promised a billion pounds of investment and thousands of jobs - and the course was built despite the environmental protests.
So why has the Trump organisation returned with another application to develop there ten years on?

Oh my God - chase him off!! It's a GOOD thing that he didn't follow through, with his initial plans, because they were f**king horrible. Poor Aberdeenshire. It must be like having a tick lodged deep in the ear canal and no doctor for hundreds of miles. It sucks it's fill, it goes quiet for a while, you think it's dead, but then it gets hungry again. You can't go after it with anything sharp, or hot, because you'll probably come off worse.
Now he wants to build the Trumpian version of 'luxury' homes.. Who's going to both be able to afford them and actually want to live in them? Nobody. It's another tax fiddle. Are these the jobs he promised to local people? Cleaning the homes of the super wealthy who aren't going to manifest?
Right now he has these people bent over a barrel and he's telling them he's good for them while he's doing really unwanted things to their back ends. And it sounds like the local councillors are standing around, saying soothing things to his bleeding and sobbing victims, because when he's finished he might throw a bit of cash their way (if they're lucky).
See him off. Come on, Aberdeen, you can do it. Pack the pimps and the 'John' off in opposite directions. Don't let them negotiate the price of your penury ever again.

I'm glad scotland built that wind farm. They are doing the best in the UK in terms of renewable energy. Thats something to be proud of these days with all these climate change reports. Trump is on the wrong side of history.
R0B1NG5 quite right. Scotland builds wind farms- England creates earthquakes with fracking. I don’t get why people object to wind farms. They don’t make a lot of noise, no pollution, yes they are very visible but they are quite majestic in their movement. Can’t help but feel people who object to wind farms are like Don Quixote, charging against imagined Giants, Quixote at least had some honour and imagination to interpret things as wildly as a child can transform an object into something else. Those against renewables like this or solar panels on houses are simply small minded.

R0B1NG5 -I agree! Trump and his allies have a habit of steamrolling over communities they - and he - think will give exactly what he wants. Well, not a chance of that. He would have more chance of taking up ballet dancing and doing Swan Lake in a bright pink tutu! There's no such way, that Trump Aberdeen will get their way. Both the Council there and the Scottish Parliament will be telling him to insert a caber where the sun don't shine. Power generation is important for all of us in Britain, and in Scotland too.

I will put in a cautious observation that it is possible that Trump will not be re-elected as U.S President in 2020. If that is the case then Scotland's elected parliament has the legal authority to ban him permanently from there. Of course on this golf course it upset a huge swathe of people throughout this land. And finally - of course! - the rest of us in Britain, in 2016. Trump has caused several cases of bemusement over the last few years, to such a point that THIS Sasenach neighbour of England agrees with the Scottish communities of this. I don't always agree with Nicola Sturgeon the First Minister of Scotland, or the SNP on everything, and I remain in disagreement over Europe with her on key factors and uncomfortable truths! On Trump's antics and misbehavior though. There's room enough for agreed concurrence with that!

Maybe a stupid question but can someone explain me this - Scotland has an almost 20 000km long coastline and I appreciate the fact that you won't find dunes along its entire length but what appreciable environmental difference does it make that you put a golf course on 0.01% of its area?
