Been waiting for this
Always appreciate the spice, but speaking from past experience in the industry (without placements), they're usually offering around 5K a track to producers without clout or placements back when I was involved with labels. As far as I know, from multiple sources, not much has changed in terms of advances paid to the producer. If you rewatch the part of Karl's interview where he talks about this, you'll hear he specifically is saying 4K is what is paid to a single producer. That's not the entire production budget. As far as independent labels, it's usually about half that. Still, I get it if you feel 4 or 5k isn't a lot of money, but it's a lot more than what you're thinking new producers are getting paid. Depending on someone's situation, that the difference between rent for half the year vs. a few hundred bucks even with zero residuals/backend. I just don't want new producers screwing themselves by asking or accepting a hundreds of dollars when they could of/should had thousands coming to them. That can change someone's comfort of living for that entire year just by covering basic needs with an extra $300+ a month vs. $400 total. At the end of the day, no matter how much people complain about the industry, just ask questions and they'll flat out tell you what numbers to expect. It's usually the people who don't seek information that get screwed over. Like I said, love the spice, love what you and CMP do and represent. Just want to make sure people have the right information when the time comes for their first placement opportunity.
I dig it. But even still, we cant make sure of that...as many beatmakers and producers are being told their is no "advance" at all. A few episodes ago we were talking about dude with the a boogie placement...we gotta get him.up here, because he was even less. If we honest honest....new producers beats are just being taken by middle men and they not even getting credit. Cardo just had his tag replaced by mally mall 😅 genius interviewing people who didn't make the beat.
I guess what I'm saying...400...4000...40 likes and follows..we not in Kansas anymore.
MG The Future There will always be anecdotal evidence about this or that happening to an individual who was done dirty...those tend to be the stories people share the most vs. someone getting what their due. This is why I’m saying seek the truth. The truth is there is a budget for major label artists for any official project whether it’s a “mixtape” or “album,” and no one should or has to accept “there is no advance at all.” This is money you’ll get if you’re aware and take the right steps. Contact any entertainment lawyer about this and they’ll at least point you in the right direction. That costs nothing. For major placements, they’re likely wanting to work with you...these are the middlemen you should be working with. This is why Karl stressed the stupidity of signing to a producer or sending loops for placements. Like you said...why not just make your own drums? Saying X got screwed shouldn’t be the deciding factor to lay let that happen to you or not get placements (even if your first deal isn’t the best). Both scenarios absolutely happen, but the entire point of me pointing these things out is to help prevent the one you don’t want. I’m saying stop looking for shortcuts, avoid “middlemen” and register your work. Invest the 50 bucks to signup for ASCAP and the $40 to copyright an entire compilation of your beats with the government. How many reading this have done the bare minimum? The ones who haven’t are the same people wanting to send stems to middlemen or send beats to other producers and are shocked when new producers get screwed.
Sounds right to me
Spicy as always #jalapenomode
Watching it again cuz it is spice soul food
Ad 15:20 MG reaction lol 😆👍
Dropping gemsss 💎
Fucking Gems
Another surreally awesome video series that is exposing glass jaws lol 😂🙌🏾🏆💯🤯🎯🔥🌶🌶🙏🏾🚀🎊🎈
The spice is never compromised! 💯
Truly eye opening! I kind of stopped watching producer grind videos, as I didn't feel they were really offering info that can further a producers journey. But I'm going to watch the Karl Fowlkes interview, because it seems there is a lot of valuable information.
On some Real Sh*t, Producer Grind Desperately Needs CMP & MGTF as Guest Hosts when they have serious industry Experts like the Brother Karl Fowlkes. Those guys looked So F*cking Ignorant. on that interview, I was embarrassed for them. I really like the Producer Grind concept & platform but why haven't they reached to Real Thought Leaders like MG, CMP, or DJ Ave? Sure There's a time and place for the BS but that interview was not it.
that intro had me dead 💀
You know.. there's a song by Pink Floyd called "Welcome to the Machine " that I never fully understood. Now I do lol thanks for the content MG!
lol MG got em lowkey bars lmao
Young lifestyle link please.....
Pipe Dream
You're so right about how at some point we just woke up and the world was changed for the worse. People have become delusional. I blame the cultural marxism thats pushed in school.
This interview is a perfect example of whats going on in the mainstream media, politics and the world as a whole. Nobody wants to know whats real or the truth about things, they only want to see a certain outcome and even when something ends without that outcome they will twist reality to some how fit it still instead of accepting maybe things aren't the way u thought u were told.
The question is who put these thoughts in everybody's head to begin with?
Nobody is even having honest debates, instead ur being forced to either agree or get shamed.
This is not the world i grew up in. Keeping it real use to be honored now its censored.
That's a rabbit hole to deep for me to even attempt going down in a youtube comment, but I think things got significantly worse with social media because that line between real, everyday life and the media we consume got blurred so hard.
Its 3am somewhere
Didn't know they teach Marxism is schools. That's completely new to me.
Yo MG, when it comes to splits.. what should a beat maker percentage be?
For publishing? If you are the only composer...than it starts 50/50 with the song writer, unless the label starts negotiating it down. Issue becomes when "producers" who receive the beat on email...try to negotiate into it as a "finder" and all that noise.
Ahhh I gotcha. I was speaking on an independent artist that puts their music out through distrokid. I have someone that got a few beats from me and we’re both on distrokid..just needed some clarification. Thanks bro!
Split it...even if it's even work
I liked this video at the beginning of the podcast n by end of it my like disappeared! Wtf yt?
Matrix don't want me to shine
I love this show but you guys legit have e thinking....why am I putting in all this effort even though I love the culture and doing the art. At some point I wanted to make a full time income being a producer /writer/engineer but the more I researched and study, the more it seems totally improbable.
This reminds me of back in the day arguing with somebody about whether or not Lil Flip (insert current artist) really got paid $100,000 to perform at ur local hole in the wall club!!! I'm like BRO THATS ALL LIES LOL! ...Smh People don't want to really want to understand the business, they wanna believe the hype and aspire to the hype 🤦♂️
Also yall be firing shots at HELLA people low key (I wont point no L-Bows) 🤣🤣😂
Who argues with a lawyer who specializes in the field your trying to win in smh..are you kidding me. Did you bump your head on a pipe 😖
Use your common sense... in my best R Kelly voice. 😂
