  • Discover the art of bamboo fence crafting at Rikyu Hachimangu Shrine, once a thriving center for oil production and sales known as "Aburaza" on the border of Kyoto and Osaka prefectures. Under the guidance of bamboo artisans who have worked on renowned fences at places like Katsura Imperial Villa and Heian Shrine, participants created their own unique bamboo fences, even if they had never crafted one before.
Legend has it that Sugawara no Michizane, revered as the deity of scholarship and known as Tenjin, once rested upon a rock before being exiled to Dazaifu. Participants, inspired by this tale and the expertise of bamboo artisans, spontaneously crafted designs to adorn this rock.
Witness the birth of a new landmark in the captivating region between Kyoto and Osaka.
