  • Għadira has a new car park that will accommodate 300 cars, the government has announced. The project forms part of an €800,000 upgrade of the area. The funding is coming from the eco-contribution scheme introduced some years ago, which sees tourists paying 50c for every night spent in the country.

    It never ceases to amaze me how they move all that seaweed before the holiday season starts! Because the beach in summer is spotless and there isn't a scrap of seaweed to be seen. I remember the first time I saw the beach in winter I was shocked to sea the beautiful Ghadira Bay looking so forlorn... the sand had all been washed away and all that was left was a lot of seaweed 😔 In the summer you'd never believe it was the same beach! 😊👍❤🇲🇹

    Lovely video Steve. I am so pleased to see that there are still a few places to go with walks in the countryside with indigenous trees that are maturing now. That yellow flowering tree is mimosa (Acasia) and not the Golden Rain you would have had in the UK. I know you are not very well up on plants, neither am I but that is one I do know about. The beach looks lovely in winter, walking along there was a favourite of mine but stayed well away in summer but wonderfully safe for little kids. Thanks Steve, take care.

    On this beach there's some "ancient tracks", which we look at during the normal, weekly walks from the Mellieha Park! I know there's some behind the park also. Maybe an idea for a walk at one time?

    • @EnglishmaninMalta
      @EnglishmaninMalta  3 года назад

      never heard of tracks ?

    • @finncarlbomholtsrensen1188
      @finncarlbomholtsrensen1188 3 года назад

      @@EnglishmaninMalta It is "double tracks" from very ancient times, and rather famous for Malta. Maybe from wheels or sticks being drawn after an animal? They are named "Cart ruts", I think to remember? One area with really many is being named "Clapham Junction"! And You may find them all over Malta, and some are cut away by a quarry being used to find materials. But we have two "fine tracks" on the beach in front of the Mellieha Park and during the usual, weekly walk from the Park, for the residents, we go out to look at them as a first, before continuing along the road and then up the steep terrain to the backside of Mellieha town - to find an Inn and a beer, before going back!

    • @finncarlbomholtsrensen1188
      @finncarlbomholtsrensen1188 3 года назад

      Vi also normally look inside the Monastery and its Church, and down to the Crypt on the other side of the road + a look at the plates with texts, also in Danish, on the wall, from the Popes visit to Malta (The Danish flag though is mostly an Austrian flag, as they have forgot the Cross Bar on it, as in the Maltese Knights Flag, also used on Malta! But the Danish flag, officially named "Dannebrog" is a little shorter in one end! According to The legend, it was sent from the Sky to help the Danish King, fighting a Crusade in 1219, in Estonia, and "helped" him wind the battle after some hard times! But we know of German Knights fighting close by, so it may have been one of their flags he got his hands on, and took home to Denmark!
      It actually doesn't look much like the present flag though, and it still exists in present Germany, after an unfortunate war against Bismarcks Prussia, which cost us the German speaking provinces, til a final vote in 1920, which gave us the northern parts back to Denmark. So today the border to Germany is also a language border!
      During the walk is also a funny Graffiti, going up a set a stairs between two walls and showing a boy feeding a cat, which looks right from a distance, but is distorted when You come close!

We are planning to visit Malta when all this Covid-19 craziness ends and we get vaccinated. We do not know which city is good for a family with two teens. hi steve a great video i was hoping to come this year but it look unlikely again this year so will have to done with your great video. Summer holidays overseas are "extremely unlikely" because of the risk of travellers bringing coronavirus variants back to the UK, a scientist on a government advisory body has said.
    The UK faces a "real risk" if people travel abroad, Dr Mike Tildesley said.
    Foreign holidays are currently not allowed and returning travellers have to quarantine.
    Transport Secretary Grant Shapps said it was "too early to tell" when holidays abroad would be allowed.
    Under the current roadmap for easing restrictions, the earliest date people in England could holiday abroad would be 17 May.
    People can currently travel abroad for a limited number of reasons, such as education or work, with anyone who does having to fill in a "Declaration to Travel" form stating a valid reason for leaving the country.
    A government taskforce will report to the prime minister on 12 April detailing when and how international travel can resume.
    Airlines UK, which represents UK-registered carriers, said it was "too early to say" what the state of Covid will be in Europe and the rest of the world in 10 weeks' time.
    "We have always said any reopening must be risk-based, but also led by the overriding assumption that as the vaccine rollout accelerates both here and abroad, a phased easing of restrictions is achievable," Airlines UK said.
    "We know that universal, restriction-free travel is unlikely from 17 May but under a tiered system, based on risk, international travel can meaningfully restart and build up, with minimal restrictions in time."

      It's placed just below the Red Tower, and has been in ruins during the years I have come to Malta. I think they are trying to find out who will pay the cost?
