University of Maryland Professor Abba Gumel uses mathematical approaches, theories and methodologies to understand how human diseases spread in populations and how to effectively control them. Gumel has appointments in mathematics and biology and holds the Michael and Eugenia Brin Endowed Chair in Mathematics.
