I bought my 2001 xj at the end of 2021 I worked and saved up 6k and blew $5500 on my jeep straight up even with bald tires. Didn’t care though!! Dropped another grand on tires in the spring, I’ve been working and fixing it over the last year and I absolutely love it. I never expected spending this much money on it but up here in New England this was a rare Cherokee with pretty minimal rust so I had to spend that extra bit. Proved my parents wrong that’s for sure because now even their jelous 👌
I wanna say, we have already passed this moment. I bought my 1994 Sport 4 years ago for $4,500 - a rust free Arizonas car with 195,000 miles. Turned out it needed a new engine, and during the lockdown, I ended up rebuilding the whole thing just for the fun. I was aware I’d never get my money back out and then all the sudden, XJ started selling for 20+k. I kept it all stock, I think in the end, the stock ones will get the most attention. People already recognize and appreciate XJs as classic cars, too. This is my second XJ and both are some the best cars I ever owned.
I just bought a white, two door, 4cyl, ‘99, XJ, with 130K miles, for $4,500. It spent most of it’s life in Egypt so there is barely any rust on it. The interior is in amazing condition. The thing looks like it’s fresh off the lot. I scored!!!
I bought my two door '96 XJ in 2020 for $1,200 with lots of issues. They are great vehicles to learn on and experiment with. If someone has the flexibility to buy one to work on, don't shy away from a rusted out one, frame stiffeners and floor pans can be bought or made and welding and fabrication are very handy skills to learn and equip yourself for. You don't have to start with the cleanest and lowest milage XJ in the country.
I totally agree buddy I have had 3 I bought another 13 weeks ago out of Campo Bello South Carolina and it was in pretty good shape I'm going to totally restore this one it's a 2000 with 58 thousand original miles .
I have a friend that just picked me one up but I'm afraid it's got 4k on it just rolled over. Daily driven far but apparently it's always been maintained. Outside has surface rust I haven't seen it under yet I will tom he wanted 1500 but i am able to get it a bit cheaper. I have no car now been without 4 months so I'm in need of wheels n id love to jack her up n keep it. But I'm afraid the motor will go or the tranny taken care of or not. Dad always told me dont get anything at 4k or 3k or get rid of ehat I've had over the yrs. What would u do it's an 89
Ok maybe I should get this one then it's in food shape an just rolled onto 400k I don't mind putting woek into it I'd love a little tonka truck until I can get a new car. I plan to lift her rufhr sway n put some kos on her right away n paint her black I still gotta look sexy driving her she looks like an old lady's car lol n I'm a picky kinda girl who goes for looks too. Lol so I f8gure if I start there ill feel better driving g her around until I slowly add all that sexiness ans fix what needs to be fixed 😊lol
I own three of these, I figure it’s a good investment. If not, I’ve had fun with one of the best rigs ever built. Life’s to short to not go out and live a little
Great advice here. I'm 53 and seen this happen for many different vehicles. When they're newer and abundant, they can be had for cheap when they're used. XJs have always been pouplar and now that they haven't been made in 21 Years minimum in the US there is less of them and demand is going up. I've owned 5 of them since they came out, it's been one of my favorite vehicles to own. Only thing that's killed them is rust. My current one is a 1990 XJ Pioneer I got off a little old lady 3 years ago with many new parts and I've POR 15 coated it inside and out. I want it to last me the rest of my life. Always loved your channel Ronnie, keep the good advice flowing, and keep Jeepin brother!
Got mine 2 years ago for $2k just as the prices went up. Rust free (Rare in New England), 350k on the original motor, nothing aftermarket. Love this thing!
Paid 4500 for a 2dr xj with 99k miles on the engine. Definitely alot of headaches but honestly worth it, working on my xj gave me much confidence to get hands on with my other vehicles.
I’d say it’s pretty much too late. The good ones that aren’t rusted like mine aren’t cheap. The cheap one’s I see are trail only rigs. So happy I scored my 2000 xj 6 years ago
I had a JK that some lady hit and it was written off. I had the money and bought the xj and so happy I did. It’s truly a beast and a rarity but also as a collector Jeep in due time.
Got a '96 XJ in October. 166K no rust. 3" lift with 33" almost new tires. Warn winch package. It's a work in progress, but I picked it up for $4,500 and can't complain. Was offered $8,000 for it last week.
I so agree, I paid $9,500 for cheery of a 1998 XJ 117000 miles, it was very clean , straight and almost perfect. I have since lifted it, new tires etc.Currently I have $15,000.00 in my xj. Thanks for the video.
We bought our 91 Cherokee Laredo 5 years ago. Paid $1500. No rust (British Columbia car), and with 85,000 original miles. In retrospect, maybe should have kept it stock, but now it's got a 6.5" long arm lift and some other mods. Absolute beast offroad. The air still blows cold! Love it.
@@IDontAShitGive I have a '98 Grizzly Edition 2 door XJ from BC with 475k KM and as near perfect a body and frame as you could hope for the mileage. The motor is kind of shot but I think is worth fixing. Transmission is good but have never actually shifted it into 4x4.
I got mine 1995 Jeep Cherokee SE. I paid 650dollars for mine. I had to put 3thousand 2hundred. In it thats not counting the 7trips to the wrecking yard to replace the interior.
All the good deals for XJs in my area have pretty much disappeared in the last year. When I bought mine in late 2020, I saw it on CL pretty much minutes after it was posted. White '99 4 door XJ with just under 130k miles and an asking price of $3400. I emailed the seller right away and waited. 30 minutes go by and I noticed the ad got pulled. I thought I lost it, but then the seller reached out and said he pulled the listing because he was getting so much interest from buyers. He said since I was the first to reach out, he'd give me the opportunity to check it out first. I offered $3k after test driving it and it became mine. Having bought my LJ just the year before in 2019, I thought that would be my only Jeep, but the XJ itch wouldn't go away, so I had to get one.
i bought a really clean xj for $3800 which i thought had 144k on the dash, come to find out on the carfax it has over 300k miles on it, i was bummed because i thought i had a low mileage cherokee but i couldn’t tell it had 300k so i suppose these things really hold up! watch for people messing with the odometer on them is what i would say.
We have 2. My wife's daily driver is a 98 4.0L stick that she bought new off the lot. The other is a 95 4.0L auto I picked up for $500. My neighbor had it since new. She said that tranny was bad since the shifter would not move. I pulled the drive lines and towed it home. I gave it a once over to see what the over all condition. The problem turned out to be a rotted out tranny mount. It caused the shift linkage to bind. Replaced it now it shift perfectly. Since it has not run in about 5 years, is why she got rid of it.
Not to mention guys have been beating the shit out of these trucks for years. Many of them ended up in the junkyard way too soon. It was just a matter of time.
Best bet is to go to a big city like San Antonio Texas or Houston to look for a budget friendly Cherokee XJ. The large economy and competition of used car sales tends to keep the price a bit lower. I got lucky and just bought a very nice and clean 2000 Jeep Cherokee XJ for under $2000. It's a 4x4 with only 180,000 miles. Happy hunting.
I just bought a 1991 Cherokee limited 4x4 with 45,000 miles on the engine for $500. Rich guy had it stored for years its in great condition. Going to put a lift on it in a few months.
I own a 99 XJ and I recently was going to put about $4000 into it to fix some leaks, bushings, struts, and whatnot and a couple of mechanics said that I have some rust frame by the rear passengers side. They said that they could put a kit on to reinforce the frame but ultimately it's not worth it because rust is a cancer. They said they could try to cut it out but there's no telling how bad the rust is. They suggested that I sell it and try to find one without rust. I ended up buying another car. I still have the Jeep cause I don't want to part with it. I've been driving an XJ for 15+ years. I just don't want to accept that I should get rid of it. It's not like they're making anymore. There's gotta be some type of fix for the rusted part of the frame? What do you guys in the comment section think? Should I keep it or let her go?
Don’t keep it! I ran a 93 XJ for 26 years. Sold due to rust from rear end impact. Bought 2001 XJ for 4500 in 2019. Put 10 grand into her due to zero rust. Ran Fl to Maine. Maine to North Dakota. Put your cash into a XJ that makes sense. Good luck 👍
Glad I got my XJ back in 2018, I understand and agree that the cost of aftermarket parts and OEM parts are becoming harder to buy/find, also glad I'm investing into my XJ. I'm currently refurbishing the interior well piecing together my new suspension setup. Listening to your XJ turn over in the beginning of the video, it sounds like it might need a new fuel pump, or the ground wires for your negative battery connection to the frame as well as the ground wires for the fuel pump in the trunk aren't making a full grounded circuit, jeeps have funky grounding issues, its a simple fix, disconnect the wires and scrub em with a brass or steel brush as well as where the wire screws in, scrub the paint away so it's bare metal, connect and enjoy a smoother start up and better idling. P.s. I'm just passing on some information that I have learned from first hand experiences in my XJ as well as my landlord having these exact same issues in his jeep, and me fixing said issues with this knowledge. Oh and my 98 XJ turns 25 in 2023, so my XJ earns more value for becoming a registered classical vehicle.
Yea I've realized that the Autozone stuff for XJs are garbage. I've had thermostats, random sensors, plugs etc. die within a few months of getting them. If you can find Mopar do it because the chinese aftermarket is really bad.
I’m in Hawai’i and just bought a white, two door, 4cyl, ‘99, XJ, with 130K miles, for $4,500. It spent most of it’s life in Egypt so there is barely any rust on it. The interior and exterior is in excellent condition. The thing looks fresh off the lot. Of course I’ve had to replace parts here and there, it’s 20 years old. It’s pretty darn easy to work on and built so simply. I’m so stoked on it
I am selling my 1997 Black XJ 156k miles. no issues. No damage. No tears or interior damage. Looks beautiful. Rides like a bat outta hell. It's my sweetie but it is NOT much room for a bigger/taller driver. I want a 2005 Wrangler😍
Just bought a 98 xj for 3k Canadian, still in the building process of smoothing everything out with it to make it back to a daily/off roading rig. Had a Ford 8.8 rear end Dana 30 HP front end with e locker long arm lift in the front warn front bumper and unknown rear steel bumper still not sure what the gear ratio is but it is geared to turn 37s It's my 2d xj that I have owned and love it
I bought my 98 XJ in Serria Vista AZ in Dec 2020 for $2700. It had 147K and was in pretty good shape. I put new control arms, Water pump, and Radiator in it and it runs great. Parts are cheap and still plentiful.
Got a 95 xj 4 door for 800$ all stock. It didn't turn on but swapped the tank and gas pump system and runs like a charm. In the shop now getting a lift and some 31s or 32s. Yeah when my friends dad was like you want a jeep and i saw it and he told me the price i said yes right then and there.
I had to double check the date on this video. I thought it was a year old or something. Things have been this way for a long time concerning Cherokees or Wranglers. Thanks for the video.
. the 4.0 is easy to work on. and people are willing to work on them. tons of information on how to fix them. and XJ body style has a classic look it. people like that look.
Where I'm located we don't have the serious rust problems seen else where. That's probably one of the reasons we still have a lot Cherokees still on the road around here. But the prices are on the way up for ones in good to really nice condition. Talking 5 to 10 grand in some cases more and they usually sell with in a day or two being listed. On the other hand you can pickup one with a bad engine or transmission for fairly cheep.
This is so true. There is a modded and rebuilt 2000 XJ for sale at a dealership right now by my house for 39k!!!! I think they are smoking crack but the prices are going up fast. I have a 96 XJ country with 107k miles on it. My grand parents bought it new and been in the family since. I've been putting some money into it with no worries I'll get my money back. So far done 4.5" rough country x series lift, 32" mickey thompson baja boss at's, vision 16" wheels, rough country cold air intake, new radiator, water pump, thermostat, and full tune up. Still have plans for new bumpers front and rear and a roof rack. There is one rust spot on the front passenger door and the clear coat is peeling bad on the hood and roof so I'm trying to decided what to do with that. I've been looking into possibly raptor lining the whole jeep because I could do that for wayyy cheaper than getting it repainted and it would be a lot more durable but I'm still on the fence with that.
I have a clean rust free 2001 Cherokee Sport.86,000 mi. on the odometer.Clean all original.I wouldn't take no less than $10,000 if someone wanted to buy it today.😁💪
@@Lightspeedwoosh it's very difficult to find a rust free xj in the NE US due to all the road salt. What engine did it come with? As I recall a lot of the EU xjs came with the Renault diesel
@@tommullaney8714 mines a 4.0ltr petrol. Dark green. My brother has an equally nice diesel. I did have a diesel but sold it for a modern car. Then sold that for the 4.0ltr which I got from an old guy for £4k. The 4.0ltr is sort after over here but good diesels also make good money.
Road salt issues over here too. But my Xj was looked after by an old guy, unmolested. I had it for 3 months and promptly smashed up the rear of a dithering driver of a Toyota in front of me at a round about( Not sure you chaps have those). Jeeps OK but toyota was a write off😂
I bought my 1989 XJ one year ago for $1,000. 205,000 miles, automatic, good stuff, solid, well taken care of, one major dent, crap paint from clear-coat erosion. It will be sold when I die--whenever...I'm 70 and healthy. My favorite vehicle, next to my 1966 Mustang convertible and 1968 Dodge Dart GTS with a 5.7 Hemi conversion in it.
I bought my '92 about 4 years ago for $2,250. The only issues it had was a seized front brake caliper and it needed a radiator flush. The AC works, 4x4 works, it doesn't overheat (I live in the valley in AZ). Cosmetically it isn't perfect, but it has zero rust. I got super lucky. The guy selling it just didn't know what he had.
Bought my 86 2 door sport for 900$ bucks, runs just fine with 250k miles, paints pretty rough, and all the gaskets are gonna need replaced, but I can’t help but feel like it’s a steal
A couple of weeks ago I got my first vehicle and it's a 1998 jeep Cherokee with a 5 speed manual runs and drives good came from down south so very little rust good paint clean interior things mint and got it for 3000 and its completely stock
I live in Idaho and have a 99 for sale it runs amazing the ac is blows cold its stock all-round but It's got a electrical problem you can turn on the wipers with the key turned off and so on I've been keeping it because if my 4.0 in my 92 goes out I was going to put the 99 eng in it but my 92 is still kicking.
With proper maintenance, that 4.0 will go 400K. A remanufactured engine now costs about $2,200. If the rest of it is in good shape, it's worth the crate engine.
Sooo darn glad I came across my XJ when I did. It was a 2door 1994 with just a 130000 plus miles on it, not to mention its Rust Free. Only paid 1800 for the thing, it was a no-brainer since I had been searching for months to find one that wasnt a 1000 miles away. I still cant belive it!! The best thing about it is it's needed little to no work at all !!
I have a wj and it has the same drivetrain 4.0 unrestricted and selecttrack transfer case but coilsprings in the back its a lorado and hood vents that were for zj the work great when i pull my 16ft traveltralor itt 64yrs old made by airstream im a fulltime RVing for 4yrs its a perfect match!
Well yea i just ordered the hood vents that was not supposed to fit wj was not in the installation instructions the placement was tricky but fit perfict and functional their templats did not help at all i made my own!
Got my wife an 01 maybe a year ago now. $2500. 2wd but it's fairly decent. No real problems. Previous owner had the whole ac system redone so that's nice here in the south. No rust. It started overheating so we had to shut it down for a bit before we could get the parts but replaced the whole cooling system and she's doin great now. Bought it with 190 some odd thousand miles. Still doesn't really have much more than that but seems to be a nice rig so far. Always liked the 4.0 straight sixes.
I think what it is that regular non gear head people are finally realizing what us gearheads knew years ago. The new models of vehicles are junk and lack style and character and durability like the old ones. Same thing has happen with atvs and dirt bikes. To bad the manufactures don’t see it and go back to their roots instead of forward with this stupid electric bs that we don’t need. Government needs to get the hell out of the automotive industry as well.
I just bought my 3rd XJ 2 weeks ago. 99 sport, amethyst paint, 129k on it. $600. Definitely needs work, but nothing that can't be fixed. I also have a 98 ZJ that my kid and I have been chipping away at building it for a daily and trail rig.
I just bought a 95 Sport. I honestly went off a recommendation from someone to look older Jeep Cherokees. They seemed to be what I wanted so I called a random used car dealer and they said they had one that I really should see. I showed up, it was pretty badass, so I bought her. I had no idea they were as popular as they are, and I think I just lucked out. It was pretty high mileage but it had all kinds of aftermarket additions and improvements made. It'll require some repairs and further improvements but I'm willing to spend what I must to keep it alive. I'm not going back to making monthly car payments again for a long time.
Bought my 2000 Cherokee sport 4 years ago for $2,300 with 160,000 miles on it. Everything is completely functional. Only rusted on the rooftop. Currently has 207k miles on it with a new cylinder head. Still running strong.
I paid 18 hundred for my 99 Cherokee a couple of years ago, and that included title, tax, and tag. I'm guessing this also means junkyard parts are going to get a little more scarce and prices are going up.
If you haven't done a fuel pump you might wanna get one..Took me 2 weeks to get a good one...Rock Auto had it...Just saying..some parts aren't stocked..like rear drums ....yep...
I’ve got my very clean‘96 XJ as my daily ride since ‘01; my Mrs has a even cleaner 99’ sport. Both get a yearly treatment of Fluid film-a necessity in the salt belt of No. Indiana.
As a 15 year veteran XJ owner here who can hear your lifter tap and has been through 3 engine builds/rebuilds.... either start putting Shell Rotella 15W-40 T4/T5/T6 oil in it, use a ZDDP additive that is like a dark brown molasses (like CompCams'), or start using high ZDDP oils (like Joe Gibbs) you can't buy off the shelf at most auto stores. The EPA cut back ZDDP content in oils to "save catalytic converters" for "emissions" purposes in 2005. Most new vehicles have better designed camshaft systems such as DOHV and/or roller cams that can get away with reduced amounts. These 1960 era camshaft systems in the 4.0 and 4.2 liter engines weren't made for those low levels of ZDDP. ZDDP forms a hardened surface over the metallic surfaces that prevents wear. If you go down the rabbit hole and actually check the differences in the oil standards over the years from before the EPA cuts in the past you'll find they allowed more micron contaminants (IE the metal on your cam lobes and lifter seats) in the oil levels after they cut back ZDDP levels, and in some standards they didn't even measure. This is why these engines don't list 300-500K like they used to. The EPA cut the lifespans of the engines drastically. You can use synthetics, but back in the days when these engines lasted as long as they were renowned for it was the ZDDP that allowed that. Also note that ZDDP wasn't cut in diesel oils (hence the reason I use Shell Rotella). That is also a factor in why diesel engines last so long. From the get go they had much more ZDDP in the oils than standard gasoline engine oils, now they have double the amount since it's been cut back.
I totally agree...BUT, you can still find GOOD and cheap XJs. Sure, luck is involved. I got one yesterday for 2900. Its a 2 door XJ, 6 inch lift, decent body, no rust. Good wheels, and its a blast to drive. Sure, interior is a bit rough, but I love this thing. I did break down driving home (she dont like NJ Friday rushhour lol). Didnt overheat, but the caliper seized and caught a little fire...Fire went out, but needed a tow back home. I did notice the wind thing you said. Im used to low cars (think early 70s Continentals, Crown Vics, Camaro, Challenger, Charger and hopefully soon a Hellcat, which the same applies as far as getting it before 2024). Anyway, I LOVE the Jeep! It started as needing a winter beater, but after this winter, I will protect on her, and get her nice (inside, electrical, tires). I will say, turning radius is INSANE! Its a fun truck, and if you can, get one! Im new to this, but I cant wait to take it on a trail!
I'd say at least half of the problem is the people that buy them to strip them and sell the parts. a buddy of mine is responsible for probably a few hundred stripped cherokees, and I'm not thrilled about it. stripped one that was clean body, fully built with long arm, atlas case and stripped it because it had an electrical issue
They are everywhere. You have to look and be ready to pounce when that deal pops up on Marketplace or Craigslist. Have the flash cash when you go look at it. Take piece of cardboard and light, get under it and inspect it, know what your buying.
paid $800 for my 95 sport 2yrs ago was surprised a/c an cruise control worked but with the power of market place its on near new 33' 4.5 lift with drop brackets but goin long arm soon
I live in Michigan and searched for 6 months for the right XJ. Found one in Illinois that came from California. An 01’ with 140k miles. Absolutely Rust free with a perfect interior fully built with long arms 35’s etc etc for $9k. I’m not letting this one go.
I bought a '96 XJ here in Arizona, paid $7,900 for it with a Rough Country 3" Lift, and brand new 31x10.50 Goodyear's on it,and I definitely hear what your saying, I checked 5 states around me, and everything that I found under 10G was Heavily Modified and Beat to Hell!
I thought i over paid for mine for 2500 its rusty but not terminal and its a 5sp runs like a champ leaks and burns zero oil except for rear axle seals. I've seen prices for clean ones low miles no rust 6-10k
3 years ago we bought the Goat for $5k. Limited edition, no rust, small lift, one-of-a-kind front bumper, winch with wireless remote. We got it for a steal. But I agree Ronnie. Everything costs more now ❤️🐞
My wife got a 01 xj clean for a bfay present in high school that ive inherited thru marriage. Its only got 132k on it and i got it for free. Im currently in the middle of an engine rebuild but i took the head to get machined and they tried to buy it off me. Get compliments everywhere about it
Bought a 93 in 2013 for $800, did the whole works with it and sold it in I think 2017 for $3000. Looking to buy another one but they’re going for insane prices where I am. Sad.
So grateful I bought my XJ in 2021 for $1k CAD needed ALOT of work and I’m still working on it as my daily but throwing a lift and big boy tires soon here 👌🏼👌🏼
92 limited bone stock with 80k on it, bought it for 1k 6 years ago zero rust. Replaced all the leaky seals put IRO 3.5" lift 32"tires but kept all the stock suspension parts and wheels just in case I ever wanted to sell it, I doubt I will though. In classic territory now.
My first jeep was a 94 jeep Cherokee high country edition it ended up having a bunch of problems with it 10 days before I moved out of town so I sold it with price of Cherokees they are going up 4 years ago bought a 98 Cherokee classic that was gun metal pearl spent its whole life behind a motor home looked brand new for almost 9k I figure I would drive it within 2 years only put 1500 miles on it it was mostly parked and end up trading for a tj that I daily drive now with me being me never really seen me in a tj my brother had 3 of them and really didn't think spending so much money on something small was worth it but I kept my eyes open on what model I wanted if I got one and it just happen the jeep I have now popped up and the guy wanted something bigger I wasn't doing nothing with the Cherokee so I went through with it on a trade now I have a 2000 Sahara TJ with ac and cruise nv3550 I like the little jeep never thought I would
I can hardly watch this, it’s so sad, they’re never coming back. They should honestly make them again, exactly the same, unibody and all, everybody loves em, they would make bank.
@@officialWWM very true, I'm not saying what will be or will not be valuable, that's not based on my opinion. but there has to be at least some large portion of a population of people that like something to make the value go up. the number of vehicles on the road has to be equal to or less than the number of people interested in the particular vehicle for values to increase. if only a few hundred people in the world like a particular crappy car, the value will not just increase for them. the value of any item will not increase if only a few people really like it. I know lots of people with older cars that no one wants to buy and no one ever will. there are also lots of cars in the metal recycling yards that never make it to the point that values increase. there has to be a more of a demand that the supply to create a rise in value. just cause you have an old car doesn't make it special, a market for an item is totally different than an increase in value
@@MrMrsregor the thing is though, as time goes on, more and more old cars disappear or end up on the scrap heap. As the numbers begin to dwindle, you need less enthusiasts for that particular vehicle to create demand. I would argue that if you have a good, clean example of almost any make of car, I could find a buyer for it.
I just bought a 1998 Limited in the UK recently for £1800 which is roughly $2200. It's in good order apart from a leaking coolant hose and some ball joint boots that have to be replaced.
What about the zJ’s? I just bought one for $600 it’s pretty clean only rust was on driver and pass side rockers it has some power door issues , I replaced the starter, muffler, and a trans leak I need to get new tires bc it’s been sitting for the past 4 years due to the trans leak . but for a vehicle that has 330,000 miles on it sounds pretty strong and still has some balls .. I’m thinking it might be a new project
Too damn heavy and too much crap to go wrong on the Trails, if yet wheeling in a light rain and need to get out to take a piss(we all do it🤣) Be prepared to break a window to get back in! Little bit of rain hits Switches and it'll lock you out,has happened to a few friends of mine a couple of times, that's why I wanted an old school Sport,H.O. 4.0 L,manual door locks, manual window cranks, and as far as I'm concerned, it still has too many Electronics, hoping to get rid of the automatic transmission and drop an AX 15,and an Atlas 2 stick Transfer case into it before I Croak!
I have two 2 door jeeps the 95 is banged up pretty good from trails, and a blown engine at the moment, my 90 jeep is mint with 140k and im still hesitant to do anything to it, but glad I have them. Also have another dead 96 4 door but we don't talk about that one haha
i just bought my 98Xj on december 31,2022! rust free for 4000 5spd manual i got very lucky but goddamn its fun to drive! ive had to fix it a couple times already but i love it.
I bought my 2001 xj at the end of 2021 I worked and saved up 6k and blew $5500 on my jeep straight up even with bald tires. Didn’t care though!! Dropped another grand on tires in the spring, I’ve been working and fixing it over the last year and I absolutely love it.
I scored!!!
Around me one like that will go for 8-10@@davnerg8452
I bought my two door '96 XJ in 2020 for $1,200 with lots of issues. They are great vehicles to learn on and experiment with. If someone has the flexibility to buy one to work on, don't shy away from a rusted out one, frame stiffeners and floor pans can be bought or made and welding and fabrication are very handy skills to learn and equip yourself for. You don't have to start with the cleanest and lowest milage XJ in the country.
Wow looks like we literally did the same thing at the same time. They definitely are great to work on!
What color and optionns did it have
I totally agree buddy I have had 3 I bought another 13 weeks ago out of Campo Bello South Carolina and it was in pretty good shape I'm going to totally restore this one it's a 2000 with 58 thousand original miles .

Ten years ago I bought a 92 Cherokee for 1,800 bucks. It's at 300,000 miles now. Still drive it to work every day, cold AC
Hell yeah. My ‘96 with 310K has the original AC compressor and will freeze your ass up outta the cab. ⚙️ 🧊 💪🏻
My '88 XJ is still running strong. I have completely rebuilt it at this point, but was very easy to research and find parts.
Better late than never though.
I agree. All the XJ’s I see for sale are off road only or real nice and wanting too much for it. I got lucky and got a 01xj for 2k$…but it 2wd.
I had a JK that some lady hit and it was written off. I had the money and bought the xj and so happy I did. It’s truly a beast and a rarity but also as a collector Jeep in due time.
I just bought my 2000 xj with 150,000 miles on it, no rust pretty good condition, paid more than I wanted but $7000 I guess was worth it
Paid $3500 for a wrecked xj with 25k miles on it. Only issue was rear and front body damage. Till it was said and done it cost me about $6,000 total.
Love it.
No rust in bc!? Mine was missing its floor.
How you tell the odometer been messed with?
I knew back in 2001 that mine was worth the cost..TODAY it's still worth it..
One of the best vehicles ever
It’s all those dicks that run them in tuff truck contests from down south. Chopping up all the good XJ’s that are left
Happy hunting.
traded an 8n ford tractor I put minimal work into for a mint 01 XJ classic, best decision of my life.
Two in my family, both with factory turbo diesel engine. Love them! ❤️
I've owned my 97 XJ since ... 97.
It's actually the only car I've ever owned.
I just bought a 1991 Cherokee limited 4x4 with 45,000 miles on the engine for $500. Rich guy had it stored for years its in great condition. Going to put a lift on it in a few months.
Score.👍🏻
@@erichimes3062 Major score. From $500 to $10K plus.
Fuck the lift. I bought one with 295k miles for $500 so you did well. Mine needs a motor lol.
I picked up a 1998 Cherokee Sport with 38k miles for 3k. Stick shift.
I agree with everything you said! I've got 2 but always looking for #3
Just bought a 98 xj for 3k Canadian, still in the building process of smoothing everything out with it to make it back to a daily/off roading rig.
Had a Ford 8.8 rear end Dana 30 HP front end with e locker long arm lift in the front warn front bumper and unknown rear steel bumper still not sure what the gear ratio is but it is geared to turn 37s
It's my 2d xj that I have owned and love it
I bought my 98 XJ in Serria Vista AZ in Dec 2020 for $2700. It had 147K and was in pretty good shape. I put new control arms, Water pump, and Radiator in it and it runs great. Parts are cheap and still plentiful.
I bought two in the last year. Both nice clean, rust free, 115k, 164k, paid some money 6k a piece.
Both will remain stock, love them!
And WJ for the win. I have a few of them . You can do almost as much with them as the XJ
I had to double check the date on this video. I thought it was a year old or something. Things have been this way for a long time concerning Cherokees or Wranglers. Thanks for the video.
Its still my dream to have it one..until now yet..and still hope have
. the 4.0 is easy to work on. and people are willing to work on them. tons of information on how to fix them.
and XJ body style has a classic look it. people like that look.
Davis Auto that do full restorations is charging 30,000$ for an XJ, you’re on point brother 👍🏾
I have a clean rust free 2001 Cherokee Sport.86,000 mi. on the odometer.Clean all original.I wouldn't take no less than $10,000 if someone wanted to buy it today.😁💪
Mine is a rust free 01 limited with 161k and 10k would be the low end here in the NE.
@@tommullaney8714
Mines Rhd 86k miles 2001. Fab condition. Got it for a steal at £4k
Only issue is the parts are expensive here.
I bought a 1990 XJ for $200.00 from my neighbor about 2 years ago. One owner. Runs like a champ! I love it!
My build is almost complete just needs sliders and roof rack
I totally agree I have been watching the market as well everything has been going up is going up and it's going to continue to go up.
Got mine a few months ago for 1800, it’s in great condition and was garaged. I know it’s a steal and I’m keeping it forever. My first car
Zj are lame
Well yea i just ordered the hood vents that was not supposed to fit wj was not in the installation instructions the placement was tricky but fit perfict and functional their templats did not help at all i made my own!
I got mine late 2021 for a good deal but I chose to pay the guy an extra $250 on the spot so he wouldn’t show the truck to anyone else
Got mine for 600 with 14500 on the dashboard about 5 years ago. Still riding strong.
Mine is a 99 limited
With the spare rim like the others
And love it bought it 12 years ago
Still running strong.
i have 3 of rhem an 89, 98, and a 2001
I bought my 2000 sport 110xxx class a title All original 4 1/2 in lift for $6000
I paid 18 hundred for my 99 Cherokee a couple of years ago, and that included title, tax, and tag.
@@oldgrunt32 I replaced the brakes all the way around when I bought it. I will look into adding a fuel pump to the parts pile. Thanks.
You have to remember, 5k doesn’t buy you as much as it used to.
Not going to lie I had a 97 with bad wiring issues never could figure out so I stripped it😂😂
They are everywhere. You have to look and be ready to pounce when that deal pops up on Marketplace or Craigslist. Have the flash cash when you go look at it. Take piece of cardboard and light, get under it and inspect it, know what your buying.
I bought mine last winter. Fuel pump went out as soon as I got home so it sat for a few months because I didn’t feel like working on it in the cold.
paid $800 for my 95 sport 2yrs ago was surprised a/c an cruise control worked but with the power of market place its on near new 33' 4.5 lift with drop brackets but goin long arm soon
Everything costs more now ❤️🐞
Paid $1200 for mine 1 yr ago. Really nice condition, 212k miles. Just put on a lift and tires, LS swap next on the list
Hi my name is Ronnie and I have a xj addiction also. I have a 98 2door 4.0 5 speed on 1tons and 37s.
Found a 96 for 2,200, talked him down from 2,700. Needed a lot of work but we're down south so not rusty. Replacing pinion bearing now.
My budget when I got my 99 Cherokee last year was a 1998 Cadillac coupe Deville that I traded for it 😅
Bought mine a year ago June $2k ,Florida Rust free , Early Build 2000 ,146,000 miles from the original owner ,,wouldn't sell it for anything! !
Sad.
here in The Netherlands a good low milage 2000 xj limited 4 door can go up too 35000 euro.... and the baddest you have too pay at least 8000 euro.
All old cars eventually go up in value if you keep them long enough. They aren’t making anymore of them…
Only the good ones
@@MrMrsregor lots of people have different ideas of what “good” is. There’s a market for everything…
I have a 1996 jeep Cherokee sport with 125,000 original miles for sale. Runs and drives GREAT !
They’re cool but not a legend like the XJ
I got my 99XJ, 139k miles, 1 owner, unmolested,,, $800 cash in 2019 😁
Same goes for the WJ. Thankful for my 1999 WJ. 2 owner, great shape. $1200.00. Win
🤟
I just payed $300 and a 350 engine I had, an it’s a nice one, here in Blfd wv
I've got one that's almost totally unmodified and has minimal rust for living in the salt belt. Been wanting to sell but it needs steering work done.
I have two 2 door jeeps the 95 is banged up pretty good from trails, and a blown engine at the moment, my 90 jeep is mint with 140k and im still hesitant to do anything to it, but glad I have them. Also have another dead 96 4 door but we don't talk about that one haha
2 doors rule !!
hard to find !
i just bought my 98Xj on december 31,2022! rust free for 4000 5spd manual i got very lucky but goddamn its fun to drive! ive had to fix it a couple times already but i love it.
I love the Xj...My 99 Xj has almost 400,000 miles and it's just like new....
Just bought a mint one built in 2000. I also saw several with 50k miles or less. You just have to look.
Have a 96 4.0 2wd 140k on miles. Was given to me from close friends just had to get it running wasn’t too bad, and in great condition!
