Not worried. They are out there. WAY WAY WAY out there. The Fermi paradox is one of my favorite subjects.
My own op. We will hear them LONG before ET needs to phone home from Earth. Our furthest signal is 100,000 lightyear's into its journey. Pretty much still in our backyard.
I think we are 1,000s of years away from detecting alien life. More to actually talk to them. I highly doubt humans will live long enough to shake hands with them or those same hands will be our great filter fail event.
The other issue is our solar system. Our sun is fairly standard for main series Stars. We've seen a few planets in the habitable zone of other stars but I think there is a problem.
The Earth, Theia and other planets problem.
When they hit something special was made. Our planet, it's moon and more importantly the groundwork for our electromagnetic field is what makes this planet so special. I HIGHLY doubt we would be here had that even not happened.
Mars had an atmo. A powerful electromagnetic field as well. Water. Check. Life. Jury is still out. As time ticked by the electromagnetic field of Mars started dwindling down till the solar winds took all it's potential life giving atmosphere away and out into space.
Earth might have done the same thing. SO many events had to take place in our solar system for Earth to survive that I think odds of finding more like it with life is pretty damn slim. (I mean close by) Time is an issue as well. Not only does an Earth like planet have to form with staying power it also needs to be on the same time scale as us. 4.5 billion years of existence with another 4.5 billion years to go before Earth is destroyed by the sun. Also Andromeda will be stopping by about the same time for the big black hole dance that makes an entirely new galaxy from two.
The chances of alien life forming at the same time, on a stable world that is close enough for contacts is insanely small.
Are we first life forms in a long line of life in our galaxy? The last? Can life live long enough to overlap other life or is all intelligent life doomed to be alone because it keeps blowing itself up learning how to harness enough cover to cover the VAST distances between living worlds.
I do think life is out there. I don't think any of them even know we exist and some may not want to.
Until we start discovering basic life in our solar system and beyond we just might be the only game in town for now.

More than likely it'll be the alien equivalent of old Dr Who re-runs but with an alien protagonist.
Or an alien adult satellite tv channel not intended for other worlds, with the equivalent of "sexy locals in you're area"
I will be the first to volunteer to go with them. I will go to their planet. This will change life as we know it. Religion. Politics. Ethics. History. If china makes contact. The world needs to know.

METI is definitely an extraordinarily dangerous idea. The problem with alien civilizations is the fact that neither us nor them would be able to know that either is a threat until it's far too late. We cannot know what kind of governments, ethics, etc that other civilizations have and, what's most important, is that they can't know what we're like just as a matter of lack of information.
When it comes to near-luminal interstellar missiles there is zero warning before extinction. They are not physically capable of being detected which means a first strike scenario overwhelmingly favors the attacker. Aliens whom achieve technological progress will know this and will know that communication with aliens will be infinitely dangerous.
It's simple math: METI needs to be shut down. The risk is infinite.
You are doing the wrong math.
We just had a worldwide plague. Again. We are STILL dealing with our first major step in power generation that could end us. Nuclear power. The Fermi Paradox and specifically The Great Filter is VERY real and we are barely even on the first step.
The chances of taking out a HUGE portion of Earth's population ourselves is FAR more likely and infinitely more worrisome than a pissed off give us all your stuff Alien race of space thugs...........
The odds of alien life visiting Earth any time soon is staggeringly massive. Earth has been around for almost 5 billion years. Intelligent life has been around for a infinitesimal amount of time here. (Although if you watch the news it's a wonder if life out there would even consider most of us intelligent life...)
Aliens only attack Earth in the movies. The tech it would take to come would be so advanced that the natural resources we have wouldn't be worth the time to collect. But they would take our water. WHY? Why travel so far when you could just swing by the closest star and snag some hydrogen. Water problem solved and will have been as their energy source to get here would be well past fusion.
The chances of alien life detecting our signals and swinging by for a fight is REMOTE. Space faring races will probably follow similar steps with early signals.
Being on the same timescale of existence is even more remote.
Humans have been around more or less for about 300,000 years.
Our brains as we know them now formed 100,000 years ago. (modern man)
We only just sent signals into space about 150 years ago.
1974 was our first real hello.
Space works in timescales of billions and trillions.
At best and I really mean AT BEST we have a few million years of natural human existence. Some have that number in the hundreds of thousands of years and some even have that in thousands of years.
The amount of luck needed for two isolated life forms evolving around the same time and wiping out the other is absolutely crazy insane with digits and a % next to it.
Kind of like the Incas and Aztecs sending signals to Spain saying here we are come visit

Even if we shut METI down now, it's not like we could get those messages back. Plus, we've been blasting our sh*t into space ever since radio transmission became usable. There's Deutsche Wochenschau (Nazi newsreel) floating in space, making its way towards other planets - let's hope aliens don't see _that._

A few months back, I was about to go sleep so I covered my eyes, I felt a strange feeling of someone watching me so I quickly uncovered my eyes. Then I saw a spark- it was vividly white but blueish and the only thing close that I could describe it as is like a ball-like flash of lightning and it seemed like that presence was fleeting but left a trace of itself. I did feel an eerie presence. It was not raining that day and my windows were shut.
I feel as though I’m being targeted while I sleep of some kind so I’ve started to research aliens and it is starting to make sense for me. I hear different objects in the sky as they don’t sound like normal planes and they hover over my house- usually at night so I do change my sleeping pattern but it seems it’s all very sinister. I have a strange feeling that they’re checking whether I’m sleeping or not.. they have different technologies so who knows what they use. Today, I had a feeling as though they’ve put something in my right ear so that’s why I’m researching right now to see if others like me have these encounters. I’m choosing not to stay silent about it any longer- this has been going on for months for me, possibly even years. I live in the UK.

The probability is that any intelligent species will be at least hundreds of light years away if we’re incredibly lucky, or much more likely thousands, or millions of light years away. Communication back and forth is a fool’s dream. Sure listen out - we might get lucky. But transmit something? Don’t bother, you’re dreaming. The speed of light is way too slow!

@@RoloFilms oh dear that seems to be one of the latest trendy phrases I do wish people wouldn't use it "a you problem" . Just use the language normally and say it seems to be your problem. I'll check again but it certainly wasn't because all the other videos I'm watching have perfectly good sound which definitely suggests the problem with the sound is related to that specific video. but let me listen again and see how it is
