  • This video demonstrates how to measure the depth of an EDM notch using the tip diffracted signal.
    Equipment: Olympus EPOCH 1000i UT tester, 45 degree, 4Mhz, 10mm diameter transducer and a carbon steel bar that contains a 0.300" high ID connected EDM notch.

    Just to add on this, if you wanted to measure the height of an imbedded crack, you'd need a top and bottom tip and measure the difference between those.

      Part T - depth of diffracted signal = through-wall height

      @@rodstephens742 some clients require actual flaw height. Not all cracks are id or od connected.
