If you grew up skating in 70's,80's,90's you where part of a very special time.
It will never be replicated or duplicated, the era has passed.
We were having the time of our lives and didn't even know it!
Cool back story, back in the late 80's the boys in the neighborhood built a huge halfpipe out in the street.
The cops said it couldn't remain there and instead of destroying it they all worked together to tear it down and rebuild it in the back yard!
    Ah the good old days😎👍

This is a very well done documentary. Not only is the information accurate and genuine , but the narrator and the writers tell the story from the perspective of someone who knows how the world perceives this little past time of ours.
I have watched so many movies , shows , videos , documentaries and animations of skateboarding and the lore of skateboarding.
This is the best that I've seen .
    Good job!

I’m a middle aged skater who started in 87 and to be honest it wasn’t a false assessment that most of us were losers and kids from broken homes in the 90s. It wasn’t the rule but it was the norm.

Born in 69 in the “valley” of San Fernando. Started at 6 riding a “pro class” with orange slalom wheels. And never looked back.just turned 55 last week and completed building an entire wood skatepark for a youth group at my church. Still skate with my 18 and 27 yr old sons. life is good if I can still skate.

As a skater from that era: “We skated because there weren’t rules or authority. And that’s what you heard in the music too. We were done with being told what to do and we couldn’t care less about what you thought, or your tv image of us.” End quote

Nobody marked their boards under the trucks. Kooks. I grew up skating since the 70's and managed a skate shop for years in the 1980's. TV and movies have never gotten it right. Most of the guys who I skated, snowboarded, and surfed with, and went to punk shows with, went on to get graduate degrees and work as professionals.

I was lucky enough to skate “pipe line “
    Before it closed
I remember You had to have a helmet in order to enter the park
I didn’t have one and almost didn’t get to enter the park
Fortunately my older brother found one after asking around
I had pads already so I don’t remember if it was just the helmet or knee pads and helmet
    Any way
My brother was always looking out
I had so much fun that day
It was the most fun I had with my friends skateboarding
I’m glad kids today have skateboarding parks all over the place and it’s free

hi there good work... you might benefit from watching the canada made NFB film called THE DEVIL'S TOY from 1966.. similar to skaterdater and exposes the social disdain trend of skaters as outlaws.

    • @breadandcinemas6996
      @breadandcinemas6996  8 месяцев назад +1

I concentrated on television, though I'd like to incorporate The Devil's Toy somehow in a future review. Almost as quickly as Claude Jutra was rediscovered, his acclaim was quickly withdrawn after allegations from his illicit behavior came to light.

@@breadandcinemas6996 Claude the scumbag isn't the focus it's the skaters and the historical context - Yes many in film production and in the entertainment industry unfortunately have this evil problem !! (makes it prevalant , but not right).. To be fair the short was seen on TV many times growing up here in Canada - maybe not in context of wedged into a popular sitcom or drama . Thanks for your kindly reply ! Can you believe in Canada they are softening the laws now for Pedophiles? It's insane !

I’m confused. Is skateboarding in an act of war or something. The writer and the voice over makes it feel like there’s something serious about portrayal of image. Is it not a privilege to roll on anything and just turn to be free. Skateboarding is an escape, a joy to ride. A free ride. Expression of body and mind in motion. Nothing more or nothing less than a simple privilege to be free.

    • @breadandcinemas6996
