Tradescantia need A LOT of light to avoid getting leggy! I just keep chopping and propping them because I can't give them enough over winter, they're much easier to keep outside.
The noID Hoya's leaves are hard to pin down but my guess would be H. carmelae as the blooms do look quite spectacular - similar in shape to H. curtisii's but bright pink!
Thank you so much for putting on such an amazing event. It was amazing, and lovely to meet you. I'm still over the moon with my wipple way! I can't wait for the next one 🎉
I’ve got a queen of the night, and propping in water first works the best for me. They root pretty easily and then I’ll put them in soil. I did a few cuttings in pon after they grew roods in the water and they seemed to be very happy. So hopefully they stay happy. If it grows a really long thing (sorry can’t find a word for it) you can let it grow and it can grown new leaf’s from that thing.
The hoya could be Hoya puber. It looks like my puber, but there's a few that look like that, I'm gutted I couldn't make it to this swap, it looked like the best crowd yet 😢
The plant swap looked like a great success 👍 I saw Memo in the crowd at one point 😀 You have to keep chopping tradescantia and sticking the stems back in to keep them bushy 👍😀🇨🇦
Plant swaps look so so fun! I hope there's one in Manchester eventually, big planty community here :) For the tradescantia, use soil with good drainage and let is more or less dry out before watering and it will be happy. Their roots HATE sitting in moisture. I chop and prop my zebrina probably once every 6 months to keep it bushy. You do end up with a lot of cuttings though - I started with one pot and now have four 😂
Also Manchester here, hope there's one here too! Have you been to the monthly plant swaps at the craft centre in the city centre? Different format and type of event than what's shown in this video but something we can do while we wait for it to come up north!
@@roots_and_ruin I've only been a couple times but it seems a lot more chaotic than another plant swap. It's been a free for all - pop on table, take a plant leave a plant style for an hour or so. Best stuff gets snapped up so quickly and it's a bit too overwhelming for me.
@@0215karl Aaah, sounds a bit too disorganised for my liking then. Don't really want to go with a bunch of nice plants to swap and leave with a single spider plant haha
Such pretty plants 🪴🥰 I’d love to go to a plant swap event, but I’m not sure that there’s more than just one main event where I live (east coast of Canada), but they look SO fun!!
I have recently discovered that some plants have unstable mutations so even though they are the same plant, lighting, water and how much sun they get can greatly affect the way they grow. You could have one under purple lights that will get silvery leaves and one under the full spectrum warm white light and the leaves end up green.
Been putting your videos on during work in the day and I've learnt a lot from you! Soooo Sad to see what I missed out on last time in Birmingham! But will defo be there next year!
Tradescantia zebrina are CRAWLERS. In the wild, they are more like a ground cover. It does not matter how many you put in a pot, EVENTUALLY the top area will lose its leaves and look sparse, because it is attempting to grow and crawl elsewhere. Just treat them like an annual that you will have to continue to chop and propagate to have a pot that looks nice. They will NEVER look like a nice hanging pot of pothos. I gave up on them about 3 years ago. I think I just got tired of chopping and propagating each year. (But that's just me) 😵💫
I gave up on them in pots also for the same reason as you, long, lanky. I planted some in the ground and they went berserk, more fuller the colors are more deeper, but they took over the whole garden,so hubby pulled them all out! 😅
True this.. i have a small form of tradescantia and it has crawled across the tops of my window sill plants and rooted itself. The crawling parts look way healthier and denser than the parts that are hanging down. Same is true of string of hearts tbh, its a crawler.
I adore tradascantia, but I've come to a similar conclusion. I won't purchase them anymore and let the plants die put of my collection. Lovely plant, but not one I've enjoyed as a houseplant.
Love seeing your plant swaps hauls. Personally I struggle with my Sodirini the same way I do with my brandtianum… I am curious how your experiences will be. Greetings from Austria!
I would love a plant swap down on the south coast in Eastbourne. There isnt much here (that i can find). fingers crossed you keep expanding and manage to come down this way in the coming years 🤞 Love watching your videos
Hello :) Hope once I will be able to come to swap..as it looks absolutely amazing! Such a nice idea! Well done! ❤ If there are some cutting left i will love to have some too :) if no, no worries :)
Ahhhh! I actually have BOTH kinds of Cebu Blue! I thought my rounder leaf one was a fluke! But good to know it's not! Also, that one fenestrates so much more quickly but looks very adansonii-like. Wait...there's a Live chat this weekend? YAY! And I'm happy to FINALLY be a Patron!
Hey Emma! Could you make a video or tell me how it actually works? I’m planning on coming to the Hull one. Is there any guide or rule on how to bring the plants? Thanks
hey! there's loads of info over on the Another Plant Swap instagram, highly recommend checking that out 😉 and if you have any specific questions, shoot us a message there and we'll get back to you asap!
Wait....What is this Magic Potion that was spoken (very briefly) about. Something you brush on your plants to magically get rid of every bug????? Curious minds would like to know.....PLEEEAAASE! 🐛🧐
Ahhh would've loved to come to this one! Glad it was such a success and that you had a good time!! Now you can rest a bit until next year haha. Heck yes I'd be up for a mystery box too - will message you on IG!
I cannot believe I missed your cross Ataboense x Billie 😮😮😮. It was so much fun being there ! Cheers
Hey Emma! Your NoID hoya is a pubera/picta I also have one. It's so cute with tiny leaves, you'll love it🥰
I would love to rehome some mystery plant cuttings ❤❤xx

Just starting my journey, would love some mystery cutting ❤❤

Orchid cactus!! Me love me some of dat! I got a big hanging pot a few months ago, it’s giving new growth already!! Cuuuute Hoya!!!
Fun! 🎉
The aluminum plant is pilea cadierei. It was my first ever houseplant back in 2012. Beautiful!
I can keep jewel Alocasia and calatheas alive but I can't keep that wretched aluminium plant alive! It's become my 'Moby Dick' 🤦

Omg I would love to John something like this!
I would like to see more plant swap videos, more specific plant care needs and maybe some spring cleaning/purging plants
there are defo more of those on my channel already & I'll keep those in mind for the future too! thanks!
