You folks work your butts off. I'm 75 and been either in hospital, rehab, or mainly home bound for 10 months. Lumnah Acres is now a part of my day. Just have my second winter following you. Great to see young folks with dedication you have for a life goal. What a wonderful daughter in Olivia. What grade

When my (now 32 yr old) daughter was just 2 yrs old she was already helping my dad in their garden. When it came to planting the potatoes, dad had always just put one potato "eye" in each hole, but Heather insisted that he put two potato "eye" pieces in each hole "so they would each have a friend and not get lonely". What a bumper crop of spuds they had come harvesting time!
Gardening has always been a passion throughout our family. We always said that my dad didn't have a green thumb; he had green arms. I swear that man could make a dead stick grow!! We had 27 fruit trees on our 1/3 of an acre property. One of which was an apple tree with 9 grafts of other apple varieties , so it actually bore 10 different types of apples! My mom is 93 now, and she still loves to work in her garden!
I've been meaning to tell you a neat thing about worms Al. They hate vibrations! No need to dig to find them for adding to your garden, or compost, or for fishing. Just stick a pitchfork in the ground and start just moving the handle back and forth. The worms will start coming out of the ground all by themselves. Couldn't be easier.
My dad taught me this cool trick as a kid, as I was always bringing home injured birds, and of course I had to be able to feed them. Thus the magic worm gathering trick! My mom pitched a fit when she found the two of us using her precious blender for worms and bugs so I could feed my needy birds. She bought me one from the Goodwill, first chance she got!!! Ah, fun memories!!
Try the worm trick with Olivia & Gina. I'll bet you'll all have fun with it!!

I can't help but notice that your independence is so heavily tied to your combined labor as a family. I can see just how much effort it takes to obtain the food you need to live this wonderful lifestyle. I once grew vegetables in a green house and once I learned just how much effort it took, I stopped complaining about the prices of fresh produce and cheese at the farmers' markets. I am amazed how sunshine, water and dirt can be turned into something life sustaining. Having studied astronomy, I know there are so many places up above us that are not the Garden of Eden we live it. We are all truly blessed on planet Earth. May God Bless you and yours.

We live in a subdivision and no matter what I add to the soil in my small garden it doesn’t help. I’ve had more success growing in pots and pails than anything else. This year I’ve planted 1 Bigger Girl tomato, 1 Roma tomato, 2 Jalapeño, 1 banana pepper and a couple of strawberry plants. I currently have 4 blooms on each tomato plant with lots more starting, a couple of blooms on my peppers and have already harvested about 10 big, beautiful and tasty strawberries. Looking forward to a productive summer. Blessings to you and your family.

Really enjoy your videos. So organized. For many years our place has fallen into disrepair. Back issues was a huge part of why. So....I'm 2 weeks post op surg #3 over 6 yrs. This year I'd decided to really move up the amount of food I'd grow and dry and can. Then Corona came along. I believe that Homesteaders have a sixth sense on such things! SO many I know and from RUclips ALL over the country, had the same feeling! Since my surgery would more then likely be cancelled, I went bonkers planting! Trying potatoes in buckets, carrots ,& garlic in kiddie pools. We had invasive Bermuda grass. With my back I can't fight it so containers and several New deep raised beds( taller for my back's sake) went in. Hoping husband keeps everything ALIVE! Anxious to be allowed to walk out and see everything! I have onions, melons,we've eaten our first ever artichoke! Along with asparagus lettuce kale, spinach.sadly temps jumped broccoli bolted. Tomatoes are in and doing well, I grew from seed for first time! I'm excited to get back out there and see how much I can do. Sweet potatoes slips are ready to go in too. Berries were blossoming. Hoping for a fresh treat today. Again I believe Homesteaders are in tune enough to have know to get planting!

Oh yea....I agree, Gina is funny!! “...two owahs lataaaa...”! 🤣 so Kennebec DEFINITELY, my favorite, then the Yukon Gold followed by reds...great choices! It’s going to be fun watching your stuff all start growing and maturing...looking forward to the harvest! You guys put in a lot of work but NOW, there it is and you won’t have to do it again for a long time. I wonder though...maybe doing potatoes OUT of the greenhouse and saving that for all the other stuff? Potatoes have so many options and grow about anywhere...seems like that space inside the greenhouse would increase your out put for more sensitive plants. Just a random thought. Looks great guys! Gonna be a warm sunny week! What’s up with the 🐝?!?😁

You're doing your potatoes exactly the same way we always used to do ours, only we planted outside.
For practical reasons, I use grow bags instead these days. It works okay, but I still prefer the way you're planting them.
That kale salad looked utterly delicious. I love kale, and I think it's an underappreciated vegetable.
