About 5 years ago, I took a large rucksack full of coins down to my local Asda. I walked there with the heaviest load I'd ever carried on my back, blazing hot day too. The arduous journey would be worth it in my mind as I was going to weigh them in at the Coinstar then treat myself to some lovely deluxe beers and relax. I got there half dead only to find the Coinstar machine out of order😭😭😭. God, I coulda cried! I bought some beers anyway at the self checkout feeding the shrapnel coins into it. But I still had to get the beers and heavy coins back home. Ah, the memories!
Have one of these machines in my credit union. I used to travel a lot for work (prior job, and before the covid pandemic). I would always arrive back home with a collection of coins. I'd put these into a piggy bank for my daughter. Once the piggy bank filled up, we would make a trip to the credit union to use the coinstar machine. Once the voucher printed out, we headed to the counter and got the money deposited into my daughter's account. Would typically be somewhere in the region of $70 to $100 each time. There was no coinstar transaction fee for this service. But now since I don't travel for work, I don't gather loose change. Pretty much everything I buy is via credit card these days. I always pay off the bill at the end of the month, of course.
Fantastic video. Thank you very much Sir. I needed to know how to use the coin machine as when I go to morrisons I am unable to find staff around to help me in showing me how to use the machine. Your fantastic video has just showed me how to do that. Excellent.
@@Papparoni love your channel I've been testing things out of my comfort zone but that's wat life is about and when my children which is 5 so there was 7 of us I used to have to budget alot still do out of habit😁
That's pretty cool Pap, and satisfying to watch too though if I had that much coppers i'd probably blow some of them at the seaside arcade lol glad you've done something much more sensible with them though 🙂
I hardly use cash these days but I've got a large bag of 1p, 2p and 5p coins which I'm gradually using if I need a few small items from Morrisons self serve tills, today I bought some bananas, it's almost like free shopping!
A great way to launder those ill gotten gains in change of a 95 here and a 99 there, they soon add up . Australia hasen't had copper 1&2 cent pieces for decades, same with $1 & $2 dollar notes. Everything is rounded up or down to the nearest 5 or 00. What was the coin that was rejected? Cheers Papp.
Hello Papparoni, that's a great machine for getting rid of all those coppers, l would not use it for 10p coins upwards.10.9% charge is ok for 1 and 2p.
My local bank ( the royal Bank of Scotland) has a coin machine but it has no charge to use so whatever you have in lose coins is paid direct into your account, so I would never encourage coinstars charges
Those machines are a total rip off charging 10.9% in commission you wouldn't get nowhere near that in interest if you had a million pounds to invest for 5 years not just 5 minutes. People should also remember that the banks will charge businesses around £2 a hundred for supplying them with change it should be free to use them especially as there giving you a voucher you can only spend in there shop.
I guess the commission includes the salary for the poor bugger who has to hoick all that change to the nearest bank! As for the voucher, I took it to customer services and they exchanged it for 'easier' cash :D
I have 4 massive tubs of loose change my bank has closed down so have been baffled with how to get rid of it...I'm going to hit one of these machines, i last counted and had about £97 in 1p 2p 5p 10p I'm gonna be a millionaireish
Indeed you are mate, I dealt with the commission by telling myself that it was worth it beacuse of the feel good factor watching the till add up on the screen!
That thing needs an engineer Patrick as the one I've used has always worked ok. As for the fee, I don't mind it considering they have to make the machine, pay site fees etc..
They don’t advertise very well at that you have to use your voucher on the day or you lose it. So you save for years and then it’s taken away from you. Theft in my eyes. It doesn’t say on the machine it must be used on that day clearly whatsoever
Good grief Madders thank goodness you pointed that out thank you. What a scandal, I had no idea that was the case and like you say, nothing clear on the machine at all. Fantastic input, thanks again.
yer i often wonder how these machines work, Its great that your coming up with all these ideas for us to watch.
Thought it'd be fun :D

Fantastic story mate love that. I would've necked the beers on the way back!
I used one of them about a year ago ! had loads of mixed coins in a whiskey bottle,it turned into 300 quid !
Jackpot!

Great story about you and your daughter Kevin. I bet she'll remember that forever :)
There something about hearing coins.....dont know what it is but find it calming. Yes I am crazy

Quite right Mr Atkinson. When we did the software for those seaside pushers, sometimes they'd be set at 50% payout! :D
Wasnt prepared for that cliffhanger

I try to use my spare copper towards beer lol
Maybe they should make a machine that exchanges coins for beer eh Sarah! :D
@@justanotherkaren237 oh yes true lol 😂

It was an American one cent coin :)
@@Papparoni Well worth the rejection.
That's good John, the coppers we have here are pointless and should be done away with. And the coins :)
Interesting 😮
Thank you :)

I quite agree Thomas :D
When Canada use to have coppers/ Pennies I would use these machines instead of having to roll them all for the bank lol.
Handy little things, a bit like you Jerri :)
Where can we find coinstar machine in London
Mate, I have no idea as I don't live in London

Very good of the bank to provide such a service George :)
Money bags, enjoyable counting bank. No charge, makes sense?
They have to charge to cover installation etc...
Can you put euro coins in a British one and get anything back?
I'm not sure to be honest Mr b. I would at a guess say no, but worth investigating.
@@Papparoni thank you my friend👍
Convenient aren’t they? Think it’s 10 percent charge but well worth it to get rid of the smelly coins
