  • Installing a set of Fab9 stage 1 cams into my duratec 2.5. This is not a instructional how to video but more or less a vlog style install. This was my first time ever doing this so I know I’ll get some terminology incorrect. I’m still learning.

How much of a pig would that job be with the engine in? I'm thinking of just doing cams on my NC

It’s doable with the engine installed but difficult there is a few videos online how to do it!

How did you get the engine out with the inlet manifold still on?

Watched Greg’s video today on The Car Passion Channel and he sent me your way. Excited to watch through the 2.5 build videos 👍🏻

Is that a stock NC miata manifold?

Odd question, but: those camshaft friction washers - do you recall if they fully filled the pocket/recess on the backside of the cam gears or not? Did you happen to take any photos with the washers inserted?

Yes they sat all the way in. I don’t have a picture unfortunately

What are the specs of cams? Have you dyno the car with them?

I have the sheet somewhere, I got them looked at by a local shop and they were pretty surprised to see that they resemble stage 2 cams more than stage 1. I will get the car dynoed for sure!

@@MitchelYardley I'm surprised you didn't have to upgrade the springs with cams resembling stage 2. I don't know where the threshold is, but after a certain amount of lift, you definitely need more spring to get them snapped back shut. I had to get new springs for crower stage 1.5 cams (don't know why they called them 1.5).
I'm curious what kind of bump you get in numbers on the Dyno. Did you port-match your intermediate intake tubing to match it up with the 2.5 intake ports?

Fab9 was pretty straightforward on telling me that the OEM springs were fine for these stage 1 cams so didn’t see a need to do them. In hindsight I wish I would of done them just for the peace of mind but I have done numerous track days and still haven’t had any issues (knock on wood). I did fail to post my dyno on my channel but that will change soon but the numbers were 175whp and 170 lbfttq. This was with the smaller header and kinda of a “safe” tune from Fab9. I feel now, with the revised tune, 1.75 long tube header it’s making mid 180’s whp and maybe 175-180 wheel torque.
