    Of the few comparison videos I have seen of these 2 mics, the ASF1 pulls in so much detail across the spectrum. As well it should given the cost disparity between the 2 :) I have the ASF2 and will continue to explore sounds with it until there comes a time I can drop the kind of coin the ASF1 requires. Stay safe/

      Hi Cecil, the ASF2 is perfect and I love using it. Its much easier to set up and also much lighter. I'm grateful to have the ASF1 and would love to use it more in deep waters. Maybe someday :)

    Thanks for the great video. I’ve got the H2A and really like it as both a hydrophone and with the little stopper as a contact microphone.

      Oh yes the Aquarian. The stopper is great. I might contact Ambient and ask if they could do something similar.

    Wow it would be so amazing for taking these hydrophones to some old fancy swimming pools from 30s or 60s . There is one pool in Czechia - from Soviet era - where I was swimming as a child in team , and I was always fascinated by ambiences underwater, hearing turbine and pumps , bubbles rising, people jumping to water… than old steam sauna , where the steam rising from pipes , also great sounds in showers and changing room , the big air ventilators and climatisation . Great source of noises ,.. aah

    Thanks Marcel. ASF-1 is very nice. I'd love one someday. Hope you and Libby are well and enjoying all that amazing Thai food. I'm very jealous of that :o)

    I got the 2 after watching you in Iceland and the 1 after the comparison you did with ice in warm water. In between, I picked up the Aquarian H2A-XLR, which is much like the 2. It's lovely to explore the gorgeous liquid sounds in rivers. Sometimes I go on shallow creek hikes, wading and listening. A wonderful underwater world to explore.

    • @FreeToUseSounds
      @FreeToUseSounds  2 года назад +2

      Oh yes I saw that you have both hydrophones but didn't know you got the Aquarian? You should make a comparison video between the H2A and the ASF2. That could be really interesting. Also comparing frequency range.

    Thanks for the video! I was just wondering in which mode you are recording when using the ASF-2 MK II. Would you rather go for 32-bit float, 24-bit, or dual 24/32? Also, where would you set the threshold when applying a limiter?

    • @FreeToUseSounds
      @FreeToUseSounds  2 месяца назад +1

      Hi!! Oh yes 32bit all the way and also 192kHz since both can record high frequencies. No limiter needed with 32bit. Hope that helps?

    • @seraphims3219
      @seraphims3219 2 месяца назад

      @@FreeToUseSounds Yess, thank you! I usually record with 48kHz but will try it with 192kHz - better for underwater recordings and also recommendable for the Geofon? I was also wondering because there is some clipping displayed in the program after recording in 32-bit float and I don’t know if and how I could fix that in post or if I had to make a new recording. Have you had this and how could you fix it in post?

  • @unidentifiedshrubz

    Do you hook up the mic to the recorder or does it come with one? And if you hook it up, what recorder is the best? (I should probably watch the full video first lol)

  • @tedted2138

    Maybe I got confused but it seemed like the smaller mic had better sound. Am I mistaken?

    • @FreeToUseSounds
      @FreeToUseSounds  2 года назад

      If that is what you think, that's okay too. The ASF1 has more quality in the frequency range.

    Hi. Just found this video. I don't even know this mic brand! Thanks! I'm also an Aquarian user.... I notice in the 'abandoned ships' section you are holding the cable - you don't get handling sound? I notice the sound of my own hand when using a hydrophone so always try to suspend it out into the water somehow...

    • @FreeToUseSounds
      @FreeToUseSounds  2 года назад

      Hi Simon, oh Ambient is one of the best and if I hold it in my hand and don't move around to much, I don't record the handling noise but yes, its very sensitive and laying out without touching is always better.
