[ How to ] Boss Katana Gen3 v1.06 update upgrade in less than 3 minutes | step by step procedure

- Straight to the point step by step procedure to update your Boss Katana Gen 3 amp to v1.06, see the video descriptions for links
STEP 1 - Download the firmware for Gen3
v1.06: static.roland....
STEP 2
Remove the USB cable from your amp but leave it plugged into your computer.
STEP 3
On your Katana amp, turn the POWER switch on while holding down the [ TAP ] button (located in between the delay and reverb knobs).
The 5 indicators over the effects knobs will start flashing red.
STEP 4
Plug the USB cable into the amp.
The 5 indicators over the effects knobs will stop flashing and stay lighted red.
At that point, you should have a "KATANA3" drive folder popping up on your computer screen. If not, go to your "file explorer" (windows) or "finder" (Mac) and open it from there. You should see a drive letter identified as KATANA3. Keep that folder opened, we will use it later in the process.
STEP 5
Now go to your download folder and unzip the katana3_sys_v106.zip you downloaded at step 1, you should now have two files available: KATANA3.bin and ROMINFO.txt
STEP 6
Now, drag and drop or copy those two files into the KATANA3 drive that you opened at step 5. Make sure you drop or copy only the two files. A bin and a txt file. It's the content that you need to move to the Katana drive, NOT the complete zip file. Not the folder where you have extracted the zip, ONLY the .bin and .txt files. Two files only, it’s very important!
STEP 7
Now, remove the USB cable from the amp. The 5 indicators over the effects knobs should be flashing red in a sequence from left to right.
If instead you get the 5 indicators flashing red, that means you didn’t move only the two files as in step 7. In that situation, simply close the amp and start over at step 2.
Once you get the 5 indicators over the effects knobs flashing green, congrats, you completed the update procedure. Simply turn the KATANA power off and restart it.
STEP 8

Now download the Boss Tone Studio for your Gen3 and install it too.

If you have the Bluetooth adapter, go to the iOS App Store or Android Play Store to get the BTS for KATANA Gen 3.

Man, you saved my life. I was following Boss' instruction which says: “Copy (drag and drop) all the files included in the "katana3_sys_v106.zip" folder into the "KATANA3" icon”
It's completely wrong and misleading without unzipping it first.

For the Boss Katana Artist, there are 2 tap buttons you have to hold down
Before updating your Artist, check if it is already on v1.06. Follow this link: ruclips.net/video/r4tnjyuOMEE/видео.htmlsi=Mz1kLFBu2IA-vbG5
If you need to update it, only the "tap" under the "fx/delay" knob is to be used.

Hey thanks so much for this video. Is this the same process if using a Mac instead of a PC to do the update?
Yes, same process. You may have to access the Katana drive into your MacOS "finder" or "file explorer", I don't remember how it's named on MacOS. If you find my video helpful, please "like & subscribe" if not done yet. Thanks and a nice weekend.
help! i'm getting an error saying the drive is write protected when trying to transfer the files to the amp. how do i fix that
The problem is not the amp but more in the computer side. Make sure you have the "administrator" full credentials as some computer may block transfer with external drives to protect potential issues with virus. You can try the right click on the Katana drive and then select run as "admin".
