    The biggest myth is that a posted opening is actually open. In my old dept they never posted a job without knowing who they wanted to hire first.

    Another thing to take into consideration is Area of Consideration-AOC. This will be towards the top of the announcement & says clarification from agency. If it’s“internal” it may have AOC restrictions. Is it open to employees of that agency, employee of that agency within a certain commute of of xyz city, all federal employees? This information will be outlined in the clarification from agency section. I think many are surprised with this. Bob works in IT in the Office of Hunan Recourses but is shocked when he gets the ineligible email that he doesn’t meet the area of consideration because the IT Specialist position has an AOC of employees in the Office of Information Technology. Or maybe it’s open to employees within a 2 hour commute of. HQ in DC & Bob lives & works in Denver.

    I am currently in a detail (originally a temp promotion until the max 180 days was reached). At that time it was then converted to a lateral detail for which I am now serving. They are about to hire for my detail position permanently and I have applied for other positions in the same series and grade and keep getting rejected for not having specialized experience, even though I should be qualifying on a combination of specialized experience and education, at the very least since I have one year graduate school in public administration in am addition to the 9 months I’ve been in this temp promotion/detail. It has been an ongoing battle with HR and I am terrified that I am not gonna be referred to the position that I have been doing for nearly a year now. I keep asking HR How did I qualify for the temporary promotion but they are saying I don’t apply for permanent in the exact same position. I get nothing but vague answers. Any expert advice?

    Thank you for the video! When would you suggest the earliest time to apply for a GS job is when retiring from the military? I am trying to get my timing right concerning classes with you and others that may assist with GS resumes and preparation.

      Personally, I would start applying on USAJobs 4 months before your terminal leave starts. Try to have your commander sign the "Statement of Service" letter early. Usually the date on the letter matches the day you separate from the military but I would try to have to match the day you start terminal leave.
      Statement of Service letters can be used 120 days before you exit the military and the letter is what can give you veterans preference.

    Weird situation, we recently had two internal positions open and my supervisor, the selecting official, decided to interview both positions at the same time in an hour long interview. All eligible 12s applied for both so we were basically all interviewing for both as well. It’s been over a week and no one has heard anything. Is this normal?

    My job says promotion potential: none so how do I get higher pay or get promoted?

      Meet your time in grade (One year at the same grade) with a fully successful rating on your appraisal. And apply for a higher grade that your qualified at.

    If you are a current federal employee at the VA and transfer to another VA in a different state but for the same job. Can you negotiate step changes? Especially if the locality pay is less at the new job.

    • @armandcuret1
      @armandcuret1  Год назад

      No, you can't negotiate step changes as a current federal employee. Your pay could be reduced because of the differences in locality pay.

    Thank you for your helpful videos! If I just started working a GS 7 job (my first government job) that has promotional potential until GS 9 and I would like to apply for other jobs that have promotional potential of GS 12 in the future, how soon would it be ok to start applying for those other jobs? I think I would also have to ask someone for an SF 50 form since it’s required to apply for jobs as a current government employee, but I’m not sure at what point I should request that form. Thank you

    • @armandcuret1
      @armandcuret1  Год назад

      Thanks for watching.
      If you just started as a GS-7 then you are generally bounded by time in grade (TIG) rules (12 months) before applying to a GS-9. However, if you apply to "open to the public" job announcements or use Schedule A, VRA or 30% disability then you do not have to worry about TIG.
      You should be able to download your own SF-50 using a self service website associated with your current federal agency.

    I’m onboarding to a new job with a 11/12 promo. What’s the realistic timeline for me to be promoted to 12

    • @brackitaclemons6793
      @brackitaclemons6793 8 месяцев назад

      It’s usually 52 weeks or one year

      Also it’s not automatic. Your supervisor has to approve it. But you will automatically get your step increase and then your promotion will come if approved.
