      It’s actually pretty smart. It activates the upper body muscles to be more responsive. This all helps to propel the body forward during the race, increasing running economy.

      @@pr1dee I ran there when I was in high school with a much faster time, so be more mindful before you reply so ignorantly. Also, I ran D1 college Pac-12 so show a little respect. I uphold my previous statement based on experience. Experience is key.

      @ that would be excessive and counterproductive. The key is to do just the bare minimum to activate the muscle fibers but not burn excessive calories.

    Meanwhile, for perspective, I just watched a high school boy in a Kenya, Africa track meet run 3:32 for the 1,500, which equates to 3:48 for the mile. The winner of this race would have been literally half a lap behind when the winner there crossed the line. And three months ago an Australian high school sophomore ran a 3:55 mile.
    US boys, let’s go.
