  • Might as well man, we done did Leviathan already. Way back in time, the grand OG (that's "original gangster" for those of you not urban-inclined) of US black metal, Judas Iscariot, did some albums. Were they any good? "Let's find out!"

    Judas Iscariot was one of the first usbm bands I ever heard

    Mad respect I love a little bit of Judas Iscariot. Especially the dethroned, conquered, and forgotten album and heaven in flames.

    🔥I am European from Germany and I love Judas Iscariot. We gave him a place to stay and released some of his amazing records (Sombre Records / Undercover Records / No Colours Records). So Judas Iscariot and Akhenaten have a special place in my heart.🔥

    I’m glad someone else finally noticed his unique use of synth on Heaven in Flames, it reminds me a lot of the polish bands like Infernum and Fullmoon.
    I wonder if Andrew is still in Germany after all these years.

      I think he's still there. When Blake Judd put out those Judas Iscariot bootlegs last year, Andrew called him on it

    A really good episode! I was always enjoyed later periode judas iscarot more. Mostly because of the drumming of cryptic winter. But this episode got me intrigued to check out the early stuff.

    This channel is excellent. Quite insightful commentary on a lot of these bands, and you're spot on about a lot of the history, like how the various waves of American black metal were received, the drama, etc. It's a trip going through these and being able to re-experience that stuff and hear someone else's takes on it. Hell, I even pulled some old Branikald cassettes out of storage after listening to that review. Keep up the good work.
    Oh, and is it just me or am I picking up some TDS vibes in these?

    • @radiofreeinnsmouth1337
      @radiofreeinnsmouth1337  4 года назад +4

      lol yeah there's a lot of TDS in there shhhhhhh
      Everyone should listen to more Branikald. I almost kinda want to do another Blazebirth Hall episode at some point just because there's so much there and not a lot of people talk about it

      @@radiofreeinnsmouth1337 You should do an episode on how the elitist nature of black metal led to so much outrageous LARPing and lying back in the day. There's the whole Kanwulf thing. The Velvet Cocoon thing lying about being eco-fascists and claiming they created an instrument called the "diesel harp", then it turned out they were just flat out stealing other people's music. Hmm, Medieval Demon had their label spread some rumors that they raped a retarded girl, thinking that would get them some good press. Didn't work out for them. There are so many of these.

      Yeah Nargaroth is a whole lot of YIKES like him selling shirts on eBay he busted a nut into. And Velvet Cacoon (cause they straight up spelled their name wrong) was a whole lot of nonsense too. It's a shame because I like Genevieve and Herbstleyd, but everything else going on there really sours it. I usually just do stuff on bands I respect since otherwise it puts me in a bad mood. I think the goofiest thing recently was the fat guy in Batushka trying to take away the band from the main songwriter, and all the fake Batushka parodies that resulted from it.

    Riff at 8:00 reminds me a bit of Swansong; coincidence? Probably. Late Judas Iscariot is pretty slammin'; real sucker for keyboards in black metal. Great episode.

    "You have some very epic, semi-philosophical lyrics." lol that's great. Next you should do a critical analysis on the lyrics of Dethklok's philosophical masterpiece "Face Fisted."

    Judas Iscariot reminds me of early Darkthrone and maybe a bit of Burzum with the occasional dungeon synth but yeah I think if I would’ve gotten more into this band in my early days of discovering black metal bands but I much prefer the higher production of albums like “Judeobeast Assassination” these days but still a good band.
