You mean... the 4 mothers? There's the Real Mother, the Other Mother, The Beldam, and then the Fake "Real" Mother at the end once Coraline has thrown away the key and is unknowingly trapped in the Pink Palace Limbo world forever, unable to get out and unaware that she's even trapped in the Pink Palace Limbo world. I guess that the Fake Real Mother at the end is basically the same (acting-wise) as the actual Real Mother... so yes, you could technically just say there were only 3 different Mother characters Teri Hatcher had to play. This was deeper and darker than a lot of other actual thriller movies I've seen, absolutely brilliant storyline. The idea that Coraline is unknowingly manipulated into getting stuck in The Beldam's Pink Palace Limbo world forever, never to see the real world or her real family again is deeply disturbing and that's why I love this film so much. When you think of the lengths The Beldam had to go to throughout the film to trap her in the Pink Palace Limbo world to feed off her love until she inevitably dies there without (probably) ever knowing she never got back to the real world is terrifying. Such an incredible film. I'm not even sure the actors were fully aware of the level of dark complexity of the film and the extent of The Beldam's manipulation and the fact that Coraline basically became trapped there forever. It's very frightening.. a kind of Silent Hill ending, except that the main character never realized she'd been tricked into a deeper level of The Beldam's other dimension, and that to me makes it a much scarier ending than Silent Hill. Wooh, what a great storyline. Brilliant film. Cheers

Adrian D could you explain your theory for me I mean I been following The theorizes theory you can go search for his channel 10 parts theory and well you seem to have another great theory although the one I know is that there are actually 2 cats, the boy is the beldams son,the bedlam was a real person, coraline is not safe as she threw the key right into the portal which is the way the cat wanted it and well there are two cats.Lol..let me explain.Basically the Bedlam was once a real person who had a son for some reason his son got stuck on the other world and the mother followed him as it was for keeping his son alive the Bedlam made him into a cat.The cat that was helping coraline is the gran grandfather of Weiby and protects Coraline too.As you see through the movie the cat has very different personalities. The first cat is the beldams son and the other cat Is the gran grandfather of Weiby .idk really alot about it and could not explain everything in here but go to his channel to see the theory.

The cat is more-likely Wybie's father*, and you have a few things correct, but so much of that is not even a conclusion one should be able to come to with the plethora of evidence to the contrary. Go watch FanGirl's core Coraline theory. It has most the conclusions I came to after watching the movie with a magnifying glass about 6 or 7 times haha, plus a lot of things I didn't even notice that cement my theory even further. She filled in all the holes to my theory and i was so excited to see someone break down clues and details so meticulously like I do! I realize the Theorizer played a big role in starting Fangirl off in a good direction on a couple things, but Fangirl completely puts the Theorizer's theories to shame. She just has a way better grasp on film theory and eye for details, probably due to her degree in film studies. Anyway, have a great day! Go check out FanGirl's Core Coraline theory if you want, as well as her approximately 20 other short videos on certain details and clues. They are well worth it. Cheers

Adrian D That’s just a conspiracy theory, it was never confirmed.

Adrian D I do agree the cat is just Great Grandpa Lovat reincarnated to keep Wyborn safe, simply out of premonition. I also do believe the Beldam was a real person, but also WAS a witch and was drowned in the very well we all consider that central portal. The blue boy, I feel is like a red-herring and perhaps becomes overused as maybe being her son, or such. I actually believe the Beldam was a barren woman dabbling in dark magic to try to get herself to have children, but ended up getting caught or whatever. Now, the blue boy. We see in the Overworld (real world) the boy’s ice cream is spilt in the ground, and he’s sad. This refers to the lives of the children who are affected by sad and depressing childhoods. Now, in the OtherWorld, it’s shown the boy is happily fulfilled with large scoops. What does this mean? I believe it’s just a representation that in the Beldam’s domain, you can get anything you want if you submit to her and get the buttons. Speaking of buttons, some question why they’re such a thing. Circling to the ghost children, the buttons were on there eyes so they can forever stay in the OtherWorld, and give their souls to the Beldam so she can feed on them. We know the Beldam doesn’t have eyes, and obviously had to give them as well as her soul to remain in the domain. We also know that there’s eyes hidden in the world. What if the moon is her eyes? and since she gave them, she can’t “leave” the other world. Now you mention something about an eternal limbo, and that’s something which I’m still very foggy on. I do believe in the end she is safe, that she did make it. I’ve heard theories about the portals and stuff, and the bed only being a thing to make it seem like she goes home, but I think she does under the Beldam’s willingness, or if she wants to let her. The night Coraline gets introduced to the buttons that the other mother wants to sew on her, she tries to make her way to her room and sleep her way out. The Other Mother isn’t there, meaning that she wouldn’t go home without the willingness of the Beldam, meaning that the little doorway is the ONLY way for Coraline to make it through, and she did. Some may speculate just because the portal isn’t all blue and glowy is because the portal switches, but I do think it is the same portal- but it’s no longer blue since the Beldam is losing her ability to “live” without the soul power of Coraline and her “imagination” and all that. That concludes most of what I think of right now, and I do believe it’s a “temporary” happy ending. As the movie finishes up and pans out to the garden, we can clearly see the Beldam’s face which may be sort of a sign that she’s not done yet. We also see the cat take another small portal- speaking of portals, I believe they exist depending on the current status of the Beldam, be it if she’s super recharged, or barely surviving off of the soul imagination stuff, hence the small rips in the portals enabling the cat to travel. But again, that’s it for now, and there’s probably still a little left to come.
