The funny part is, it does not even come with a leather finish on the EQS. Just the S-Class and all the Maybach models get it wrapped in leather... Cost saving at this pricepoint - insane.
They feel so f-ing cheap compared to the old MB:s. I dont see how it needs to be expensive even... What material was the old steering wheels in a facelifted w123 for example? It wasnt leather... Still it felt substantial. Very not toy like. Padded vinyl?

Best hybrid system ever developed by mercedes benz and amg,they got rid of that heavy rear mounted electric drive unit with that unnecessary 2 speed heavy gear box,this new hybrid system uses yasa uk based company that owned by mercedes,yasa developss super light weight electric axial flux motors that sits between the engine and gearbox just like mercedes mild hybrid systems and it doesnt weigh more either,they also got battery pack with double energy density,all of that means 2025 e53 hybrid electric system weighs less than 150 kg which half of what we can find in c63 se and gt63 s e and 200 kg lighter than what amg uses in 2023 s63 s e performance,they have done an amazing job,this is what amg and it's hybrids should be engineered,only car enthusiasts know whats going on with 2025 e53 hybrid,i hope they will use this new electric platform in their entire hybrid line up especially amgs
No it doesnt. It looks like an arcade game. Very distracting. An ergonomic catastrophy. Looks like a 12-year old boy designed it. And how does it feel when you touch things? Plasticy as usual?
I had to rewind to check again when he said 460 liters for the boot space on the estate. How is it so small on a car that's so big? The Superb and Passat boots are are 200 liters, or over 40% bigger. It definitely hasn't been used for rear passenger leg room either, so I suspect the hybrid battery is using up all the space - and any possibility of having a spare tyre. I'm also curious what the weight distribution and handling are like if the battery is behind the back axle. A bunch of the VAG group hybrids were found to spin out of control on 'elk test' type maneuvers due to the weight of the battery in the back, while the non hybrid versions were fine, and the laws of physics don't change just because there's a different badge on the front.

Well first of all VAG cheats a bit with the boot sapce. It's measured from the bottom till the cover. So what they do, is they measure with the false floor removed. Our Golf variant has like 600l of space. But with the false floor in so you have it level with the sill, you loose like 100l space. Now as the E class has a large floor are for the boot, the height decrese hurts it a lot. Also it's a premium car with a longitudinal engine, which takes up more length than a transverse engine in a Passat/Superb. Then you add in the premium gap, and a big one as it's an E class not a C class. Finally there's packaging. MB didn't really update their platform for better battery placement, so they put in the rear, in a flat rectangle under the trunk, above the rear suspension. Then they put the charging stuff under it, where the under floor storage would be. They could probably package the battery better if they changed the platform a bit, or went for a split pack, but they don't do that unfortunately. At least they can do pretty great recupariation.
@ Most VAG cars don't ship with the raised boot floor option, so I don't think it's misleading to include that with the volume measurement, especially since the raised boot floor can be removed if required. The E Class used to have a bigger boot than a Superb a few model iterations ago (While still running a longitudinal and probably bigger engine than now). In that time the Superb has moved a little more upmarket and is still getting roomier, MB remains at the same position in the market but is losing practicality with each iteration.

I definitely agree that smaller central infotainment screen, no screen on passenger side and base seats are much much better. Also steering wheel with suede and carbon fiber is overkill. Classic leather with perforated sides looks much more classy in my opinion. Nice review, thank you Thomas 🙏

They're absolutely gorgeous. Not crazy about it being a plug in hybrid, but they're gorgeous inside and out. There is really no need for an E63 if it's going to be a 4-cylinder.

That estate looks really nice. I too prefer the matte wood without the passenger screen. I think this is a better sporty hybrid than the C class AMG. Though I would've loved to see they use the 4 cylinder engine, but with more electric power.
We want screen integration, and zero capacitive BS. We want physical knobs, buttons, dials. We also want zero high gloss piano black plastics. That beautiful open-poure satin wooden inlay is more than welcomed!
Jumped straight to engine info. Thank God it’s not a four banger. If it’s electric or 4 cylinder I usually skip those reviews as they’re not interesting to me. That said this was a great review Thomas! Thanks

Thomas, I’m a great believer in the work that the fake exhaust police carry out, I still can’t believe that you can pay that much for any car and not have a proper tail exit exhaust! I prefer the chrome, but I love estates so I may be somewhat biased 😬
Crikey , that sets the bar high for performance wagons .. well done Mercedes.. would have liked to have seen a v6 or v8 but the hybrid drive is the way forward 🤩
A great preview which does the detail you can at rest. I am with Leah (spelling?) in going for the sedan with the sinister bits. Mercedes get so much of this right and I imagine the engineering is superb. What I do not like and have written repeatedly is the teenage spaceship UI/UX without real buttons. So of the two here the less premium interior with the simpler UI/UX and the comfortable seats is clearly better. What interests me is what Mercedes have done with the two Smart Brabus choices. They are pretty much as quick as these two AMGs, maybe quicker. I like and can live with their UI/UX and do not need the much more complicated suspension setup here. Completely forgetting money, I would just rather be in a Smart Brabus either #1 or #3.

Wow thats nice. Wow. i6 + electric? Yes please. And that interior?! Holy crap. Mercedes has not created a car in a while that I liked but this definitively changes that. Edit: I like the first interior but the second more comfortable sports seats.
I was extremely excited that Mercedes came to their senses and finally used a beefed up inline 6 cylinder, just to find out it is a plug-in hybrid and weighs like a house...better than a 4 cylinder but not the best solution imo. Should have given us a much lighter non hybrid inline 6 cylinder and tuned it a little to reach ~512 hp so it is on the same level as BMW.
I mean nice one Thomas thank you, but Merc has no logical decsions, why has the new CLE 53 amg not the same power output like this, if thats basicly this car coupe variant or i know mid platform ( c and e coupe together ), it doesnt make sense.
No mention of the giant Mercedes logo on the front grill. At leads it has a sun roof that opens. @14:03 I hate sports seats. They don't belong in sedans or any car that isn't a two seat sports car. Anyway, the passenger screen looks pretty dim. I suppose that part of the safety feature to keep it blacked out from the driver. BTW, too dark. I couldn't see into the trunk. Also, always point the camera down into the storage bins so we can see the bottom and if there are any USB ports inside.
I feel if the exhaust comes out of the holes there it shouldn't be fake exhaust police. That's at least reasonable versus not having anything come out there. Glad they've done a 6 cylinder. Hopefully the 63 is still a V8 then. I just don't like how the brake lights show when braking and the reverse light that's part of the indicator light. They should've used a better solution for this. Not a fan of the wavy headlights and seamless transition to the high gloss front grill . It destroys the whole look of the car for me. I would prefer a straight bottom line for the headlights and a front grill similar to the W 222.
im driving e53amg 2023. im satisfied with mostly. Definitely im gonna get this one for the next car. this is very very cool. much better than normal version of e class.

Its leagues better than the new 5 series. But i think if they painted the portion around the grille in body color it would look much better.

Unpopular opinion nowadays, but chrome trim simply looks better, just like in pretty much any other car.
To be honest That wooden Interior without that unnecessary screen makes it the most compelling interior of the trinity at present!

Thomas, I’m a great believer in the work that the fake exhaust police carry out, I still can’t believe that you can pay that much for any car and not have a proper tail exit exhaust!

Overall, in my opinion, the 2024 E53 supersedes the 2024 BMW 5 Series. For the first time, this machine looks mean, fun, and solid.
A great preview which does the detail you can at rest.
I am with Leah (spelling?) in going for the sedan with the sinister bits. Mercedes get so much of this right and I imagine the engineering is superb. What I do not like and have written repeatedly is the teenage spaceship UI/UX without real buttons. So of the two here the less premium interior with the simpler UI/UX and the comfortable seats is clearly better.
What interests me is what Mercedes have done with the two Smart Brabus choices. They are pretty much as quick as these two AMGs, maybe quicker. I like and can live with their UI/UX and do not need the much more complicated suspension setup here. Completely forgetting money, I would just rather be in a Smart Brabus either #1 or #3.

To be fair the smart brabus cars are very well priced and full evs, meaning they can accelerate faster than comparable ice cars

Thank you. I think you have just made my point. For a lot less money a Smart Brabus is at least as quick, a full EV, more or less a Mercedes, and has a UI/UX I can live with. What is not to like?

Edit: I like the first interior but the second more comfortable sports seats.
I was extremely excited that Mercedes came to their senses and finally used a beefed up inline 6 cylinder, just to find out it is a plug-in hybrid and weighs like a house...better than a 4 cylinder but not the best solution imo. Should have given us a much lighter non hybrid inline 6 cylinder and tuned it a little to reach ~512 hp so it is on the same level as BMW.

@14:03 I hate sports seats. They don't belong in sedans or any car that isn't a two seat sports car. Anyway, the passenger screen looks pretty dim. I suppose that part of the safety feature to keep it blacked out from the driver.
BTW, too dark. I couldn't see into the trunk. Also, always point the camera down into the storage bins so we can see the bottom and if there are any USB ports inside.

I feel if the exhaust comes out of the holes there it shouldn't be fake exhaust police. That's at least reasonable versus not having anything come out there. Glad they've done a 6 cylinder. Hopefully the 63 is still a V8 then. I just don't like how the brake lights show when braking and the reverse light that's part of the indicator light. They should've used a better solution for this. A

Not a fan of the wavy headlights and seamless transition to the high gloss front grill . It destroys the whole look of the car for me. I would prefer a straight bottom line for the headlights and a front grill similar to the W 222.

im driving e53amg 2023. im satisfied with mostly. Definitely im gonna get this one for the next car. this is very very cool. much better than normal version of e class.
