    Is two the point of diminishing returns, or are there people who (reasonably) go as far as three males in a breeding season to ensure all of the eggs are fertilized? And would one want to go in order of preference on the breeder male, hoping that the less desirable sire would only get whatever the more desirable sire missed?

    • @BrianBoas
      @BrianBoas  3 года назад

      I've never heard of that; most breeders only use one male per female. It can be hard to tell who the daddy if you use more than one. ;)

    • @MissingTheMark
      @MissingTheMark 3 года назад

      @@BrianBoas right, but if you're breeding pure localities, you'll know the offspring are all pure regardless of who the father is, which is what really matters, isn't it? Obviously it's different in morphs, but if you introduced the suriname makes to a suriname female, you know the offspring will be suriname. Unless you'd charge more for one suriname sire over another?

    • @BrianBoas
      @BrianBoas  3 года назад

      It is useful to know the exact parentage of each animal so you can avoid inbreeding in the future.

    • @BrianBoas
      @BrianBoas  3 года назад

      The weight could be all over the place from less than a pound to more than 10 pounds depending on how much it was fed. The important question is whether it's body proportions are unhealthy- obese, etc.

    Hello brother..please reply.. I brought a Suriname Female boa 6 months ago. Very healthy snake. I brought Suriname thinking its gonna be a massive snake. Because i wanted the biggest boa. But rightnow im worried because your Suriname is smaller than i thought. So my question is... is that the real size of Adult Suriname? If its not then how big it gets normally?

    • @BrianBoas
      @BrianBoas  3 года назад

      A typical size for adult males is 5-7 feet, females 6-8 feet. Some get bigger or smaller than this range depending on genetics and diet. So no, your snake is not going to be massive like a Burmese or retic python.

    • @nicholasmorrison5644
      @nicholasmorrison5644 Год назад

      I think it depends on a number of factors friend. For example, I believe some same-locality boas have less tolerance for larger and more frequent meals than others. The true red tail boas from Suriname and Guyana get bigger than the Colombian Boa, and his female Guyana boa was much larger than his female Suriname boa who was 6 years old I believe. However, my Suriname is now roughly 4 years old, and as large as his 6 year old Suriname is. I think it is safe to say a female Suriname boa can range anywhere from 6-10 feet with there being select outliers on both sides. Mine is around 4 1/2-5 feet currently.

    Dear Brian, I absolutely love your channel. Thanks to you I am learning more and more about these wonderful animals that I'd like to keep and care for one day. I would like to ask you a question, though. Based on what I learned from you, female BCI can get to 7-8 ft. Therefore, would you consider a female common boa unsuitable for a first-time keeper? I know that Colombian boas can make wonderful pet snakes and I would love a larger snake. Nevertheless, I need a snake I can handle on my own, as I live alone now. Thank you for everything.

    Interesting video , I just ended up with male boa since I do not plan on breeding but , I did meet my hog island parents and I was in shock that the male and female where both around 4 feet each. I figured the female would be a little longer. So I do not expect my Male to get any bigger than 4 feet fully grown.
