After 16 years, R-Type Final 2 is "Finally" going to be a reality (even if it's still in development) I hope they bring back most if not all of the ships in Final, plus some new ones.
I wonder if Space Corps battleships will make appearance in Final 2, at least in the background of some stages. Although latest development report does mention that there's a cutscene where R fighter gets launched from Jormungandr transport.
I wonder does it take plot from Operation Chocolate as well. On Tactic 2 they have argue either still need to use Bydo source or not, ended up split between a side still using Force (since Bydo cell is used on Force technology) and the side without Force.
I played this game as a kid on my PS2. I was only 5 years old, but I still remember this being my favorite game. Even though I was unskilled and could only play to stage 3, I adored R-Type Final for what it was. A masterpiece. It was only till I turned older that I learned R-Type was the final game of a series of awesome shootemups. Kinda sad, actually..
@ArrowWindwhistler i totally agree, that would've been awesome as hell having a stage where all the fighters are locked in a massive fight with the Bydo
I spent several months unlocking all of the fighters. I love the way the PS2's internal clock syncs with the game. If you started playing the game today, the fighters will begin to appear in the year 2170. too bad only the patrocross avian is transformable in R-Type Tactics. IREM did put much heart in designing all of the fighters.
Try playing God Eater and you'll understand why: Imagine this: You are wielding a weapon made from the very enemy you sought to destroy, said weapon eats or assimilates anything, and it includes you. Do you want to be inside it with no guarantee, no safety created (yet, cause we're racing against time)
The Force is a Bydo Embryo, and the Bydo are beings capable of assimilation. This happens in Stage F-B of this game and also R-type tactics. Those rods on the Force device are limiters to prevent the Bydo embryo from full on transforming into another bydo. Its also the reason why they're are bydo fighters in the R series. This is a result of what happens when the R fighter becomes assimilated by the bydo.
And as Delta and Final proves it... Force units are incredibly tough, but they are not immortal, a Dose attack with no limiter or a Broken Wave Cannon (aptly named: "Final") is all you need to blow it up (the strongest thing humanity has ever came up with in this universe)... And you need to have a death wish if you want to do either.
I unlocked all 101 of them it takes forever but its worth it your making good progress DangerousD6969 considering the last few take hours to obtain which requires you to drag out your gameplay just to get them that's how you get Ragnarok 2 which is the ship with the giga wave cannon which is pretty much the Final wave cannon you use at the end of the game, it kills bosses in one hit ^_^
I think i understood at the end of the video that that is a force of the R-9 arrowhead.. that at the final boss is inside the bydo ocean.. or if its a ocean and defeats the Bydo.. but the ships gets damaged and cant get anymore to the surface and only the force did.. am i right?
Nope. Force was destroyed in Final stage-A by R-fighter's pilot to rip off the boss's invincible armor. Then the boss goes crazy and it emits a pile of force toward fighter. I think one of the forces that was created by the boss has been floated to surface of ocean But the boss is located in outer space. You can discover it by looking map in bydo lab. So what I wrote above can be false.
I think the only one who can leave force behind at sea is protagonist from f-b, and he did got his stolen to r-9a (which transforms from bydo version to normal force version) and just left without picking it back(shown at the start of the game)

cool
Classic. I used to leave the game running just to hear this video playing in the background. :-)
Oh, and the game itself kicks MUCH ass!

WHY DID I SELL THIS BADASS MASTERPIECE YEARS AGO?! D':
sucks the website for this game went down 4 years ago
this game is definitely a MUST BUY!
and this, my friend, is the answer to that timeless question: "Why don't they make the entire ship out of what the Force is made out of?".

Chiron looks wicked. I liked Iason better since it had more humanoid-looking legs, though.
10/10 game
nice!!!
I know, I have about 75% of the ships unlocked
@Shadowzeroace
to give you an update I have 10 left to unlock
