Much like the Boss theme in Episode 1 being based on a Sonic 3D Blast unused track, the White Park Act 2 theme borrows about half of the track from the Twinkle Park castle area, which was also originally a Sonic 3D Blast unused track.

I think that they put the one-emerald-per-stage limit in to prevent you from finding an easy level and cheesing it, because the classic Sonic games didn't let you retread past Acts you had already passed to get the emeralds, which added to their difficulty.
I see what you mean but to counter that also, they classic games had multiple areas per level to get a chance at the special stages..I just personally think they could've executed that better than just reusing sonic 1's method, thats just my opinion though! Hope you enjoyed the video!

Sonic 4 Ep. 2 is much better than Ep. 1. Graphics, music, physics - you name it. I already said my opinion on both Episodes in Ep. 1 video but I have some things to say. The Zones this time are more original but Oil Desert is literally Oil Ocean and the unused Dust Hill, and Sky Fortress literally has Wing Fortress's beta name. The quality of the game is much better and can be seen just by the updated graphics. There aren't that many bad things to say about Ep. 2 as it took the hate and improved what was bad before although if Ep. 3 was ever made then it will probably be the best out of these 3 Episodes much like the Genesis Trilogy. Also I forgot to mention it in my previous comment that Ep. 1 tried to emulate New Super Mario Bros. style graphics and failed successfully.
That’s interesting about Dust Hill! It was so weird with Ep.2 as most of the development kinda just happened with not much noteworthy things going on. I really wish we would’ve gotten an Ep 3 just to see what would’ve happened with it. That’s really interesting also about the NSMB art style, I didn’t know that! That's a good comparison I would agree with. S4E2 is a good game in my opinion and was fun from what we got but there was alot more potential there than what the final product was.

There may be some grammar errors and misspelling’s. Here’s the entire list of a potential improvements updates for Sonic The Hedgehog 4 Episode 2 (I like to write the entire title just because). Also you may not understand some things I’m trying to explain. 1. Just have the gameplay physics for Sonic & Tails be exactly like Sonic The Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles. The physics for Episode 2 were much more bearable but the roll physics aren’t perfect it still doesn’t work as well. 2. You can switch between as Sonic or Tails like in Mania Plus Encore Mode and Heroes. Add an extra button next to the Combo-Move button to switch between characters. 3. Remove a bunch of Speed-Boosters and Springs that were useless and weren’t needed in the levels. Example are from some sections in Sylvania Castle Act 1, White Park Act 2, and Oil Desert Act 2 and Wing Fortress Act 2. 4. Have a button that turns off the Super form. 5. Bring back the Elemental Shields and also add a button for their abilities. The Green Shield can deflect enemy projectiles this time. 6. Since Sonic can go Super and Tails is playable so can Tails since he just did that in Heroes and Mania Plus. Super Tails would have red pupils, gold fur, angry eyes like Super Sonic, and his hair would go upwards. 7. Bring back the Episode 1 levels and zones into Episode 2 game instead of Episode Metal (I’ll get to it later). Change the ascetic of Episode 1, improve the lighting and textures, and bring in new Badniks as well or remix old Badniks ideas with a new twist to it. Move the Episode 1 Zones next to Episode 2 Zones and move Episode Metal to a file under the main game file (the one that says continues and I think under that says multiplayer of something). Splash Vally Zone: Well imagine it a mix of colors of Good Future Palm Tree Panic minus the tight space and pipes, Angle Island detailing and forest sections, Emerald Hill showing another islands and clouds. Same gimmicks but the point of Splash Vally is for the new player to adapt to the physics well in Act 1 while Act 2 (and sadly there’s still an Act 3) brings in the Zones gimmicks. Act 1 starts during the day time, Act 2 in the lower levels of the Splash Vally location and Act 3 happens during sun-set. The gimmicks in Splash Vally are swinging vines, moving plat-forms (like in Green Hill Zone), your able to move rocks (like in Angle Island Zone from Sonic 3&K pushing some rocks on a button that’s create forms a plat-form for the player to get to an area Yee not progressing but more of exploring sections and unlocking them), some flowers are just springs (a magenta flower that’s slightly bigger then the rest), Zip-Line like in 3&K Angle Island, and breaking a wall releases a water slide. Badniks would be Bee’s with stingers kind of like those Badniks in the start of Palm Tree Panic. Circus Rails Zone: Imagine Mirage Saloon Act 1 train section but very huge mix with Flying Battery Act 2 going inside and outside of the ship section and pretty big circus rooms in the trains and that’s only for Act 1 which happens during night time while Act 2 takes place a Circus show were Sonic & Tails are fighting against Circus Badniks while preforming tricks with people watching them and cheering and stuff like that and in Act 3 which happens during sun rise and back to the Train with Sonic & Tails chasing Eggman down and then facing him at the end. Act 1 has circus animal Badniks, breakable and moving boxes, bombs and small rings idk how to say it but it’s were a performer has to be wet (not like that) in order to get through a small ring, bouncing colorful afros (Yee) and bouncing ball (Yee). Act 2 were gimmicks from Act 1 but amplified. There bouncing balancing strings with Badniks trowing balls that you can just hit the ball back at the enemy, bouncing ball that you can hit at whatever, swinging poles, multiple ring obstacles with going through bigger once’s to smaller once (I can’t describe it well), bumpers, cannons and hamster wheels kind of. Act 3 is with the gimmicks of Act 2 but slightly more dangerous with a bit more moving blocks like in Casino Street. Lost Palace Zone: Hidden Palace but actually made into the game cannon instead of an Easter egg level in the mobile version. Act 2 is blue and purple with slightly dangerous versions of act 1’s hazards and gimmicks. Moving balancing ball things whatever they’re called in Lost Labyrinth, poles with moving spike balls and buttons to open sections and gateways in the levels. Act 3 shows more of the outside world instead. The gimmicks include the moving big ball things from Lost Labyrinth chancing Sonic & Tails, water spitting the ball spikes (idk how to describe it unless I show you visually), pipes acts like in Mania Plus Chemical Plant and can help lead to different areas of the levels. Mad Gear Zone: It’s silver and gold in Act 1 then Purple and red in Act 2 with some brighter blue and then darker red and bright silver in Act 3 for ascetics. Some ideas kept but it’s less unfair and there’s moving blocks like in Sonic 1 Green Hill Act 2. Moving big silver pole thing that Sonic & Tails hangs on while that pole thing moves either up or down. Oil Ocean’s jumping plat-form Some Scrap Brain gimmicks here but again it’s not nearly as challenging since it’s the 4th Zone challenging. This is how I’d redo the levels and also forgot to do the Badniks minus the Circus Rail Zone one but it’s pretty vague. 8. Change some levels like in White Park like have Act 2 be more carnival heavy with gimmicks Based off of games in carnivals so use your imagination (SpongBob reference) and in the end of Act 2 just take place in the rail but have some sections have a train like in Twinkle Park in Sonic Adventure 1 (wasn’t that the name ?) Oil Desert Zone ascetic be more idk reddish orange with idk purple or shiny dark blue or something idk. Wing Fortress ascetic just be red, gold and silver. Death Egg Mk II be like the Death Egg in Sonic 3&K. Crushing blocks but not fast once, tube thing again, and electrical Badniks (they’re only in that for defense). 9. Improve Episode Metal just by giving it more acts, give Metal a Rocket Peel-Out and a Egg Robo boss battle, and more cutscenes that clears about what Metal is doing by showing Eggman clapping and showing a screen that shows Metal Sonic battle mode move sets have improved and ready after going through that test of going through the sections Sonic & Tails has been through already and then shows the location on were Sonic & Tails is. 10. Improve the Soundtrack to be less Genesis like and more Sonic CD approach instead. 11. Show less warning signs like in the end sections of Oil Desert. 12. Remove some of the video Combo-Move in the levels and let the player know on their own. 13. The Sign-Post jump when running at it like in Sonic 3&K. 14. Have the Red Rings reward you with concept art, art of the game’s Zones and stuff like that. 15. Make a new finale boss battle for Super Sonic & Super Tails to fight Death Egg Hearth Robot. The heart thing with arms and legs with a Death Egg Robot head thing and change the hearth machine to fit the machine idk I actually made a drawing. 16. Show cutscenes for each acts that transitions from one Zone to another. 17. Add Knuckles (maybe Mighty, Ray) and Amy. Knuckles has the same gameplay Sonic and his Sonic 3&K gameplay but has the Homing-Attack, and has extra buttons for the Glide & Climb (no I don’t want him to be slower and has a less higher jump). Mighty the same like Knuckles and his self from Mania Plus and the extra button is for his ground pound move. The same thing can be said for Ray as his flying is for his extra button so you hold it while flying. Amy also but she can have a Hammer Spin-Dash which acts like Sonic’s CD Super Peel-Out and Hammer slam which can be used tapping an extra button. They can’t be played in Episode 2 unless it’s altered while playing as them but it’s better have them be played in Episode 1’s level instead that’s my opinion at least. Zones: 1. Splash Vally Zone 2. Circus Rail Zone 3. Lost Palace Zone 4. Mad Gear Zone 5. Sylvania Castle Zone 6. White Park Zone 7. Oil Desert Zone 8. Egg Fortress Zone 9. Death Egg Mk II Zone 10. Little Planet Zone 11. Final Fate Buttons: Combo-Moves, Shield Button, Characters Switch, Super Button, Jump Button and the Control....Button.
If they remade Ep. 1 on this engine I'm pretty sure the opinion of it would've changed. Its sad we never got an Episode 3, but at least we ended the saga with a pretty high note.

I want to go back and get all the achievements on steam once I'm done with SA1. Honestly, I have a soft spot for Sonic 4: Episode 2. Most of the levels and bosses were original. The Music was great! And the special stages weren't too hard Though it pisses me off how the game ended. Especially since there was plans for a part 3
It's absolutely baffling that they chose to essentially make Episode Metal dlc for Episode 1. "We've got an improved engine and artstyle full of Metal Sonic...so let's take the time to put him into the inferior version, and as nothing but a skin for Sonic in a game where only Sonic was playable!" Dude trust me I feel you 100% Metal Sonic has become my #1 guy and I was so excited to see what happened with him in the bridge between CD and S4 since they did a FANTASTIC job building him up in S4E2 and all but then...I opened episode Metal and saw that godawful artstyle from E1 and was like NO GOD NO PLEASE NO bahahah. I'll be honest, as a die hard sonic fan from the 90s I'd still prefare playing watch paint dry simulator for an entire year than put myself through this game again.
The only thing I like to abuse the game is retrying the special stages compared to sonic origins where you have to pay for the retrys with stupid coins.
Episode 2 was pretty good, though I do wish Tails was actually playable. Yes you could say he is playable in multiplayer but if you are playing alone its pretty much impossible to play as him, due to the lack of a character selection function, which you had in the original Mega Drive games, as well as the Advance series. Seriously, what happened? Its not as if you still couldn't have done the tag team moves with Sonic being the one to follow behind, or better yet there could have been a tag team function, not unlike what Mania did with its Encore mode. Or Donkey Kong Country even. Still good though and I wouldn't mind that double spin attack to be brought back as a move in the next 2D game as it seemed pretty cool.
Yeah I never thought about the multiplayer aspect as I was playing single player...it would’ve been nice to play solely as tails. I hope they bring back the duo combos as I think a true 2D game would be fantastic with the foundation of sonic advance 3’s team gameplay. Thanks for watching and hope you enjoyed!!
@@Eldarin Yea it was a cool video and I do feel like one of thing big things me saying about Tails not being playable is because he, along with the other characters have barely had a look in this past decade with it largely being Sonic or bust. And outside outsourced games like Boom or Mania it's been 14 years since he was last playable in a mainline game, with 06 being his last outing. Here's hoping the next game treats him better beyond having to carry that bad tribute act again throughout the whole of Forces due to him being mute and having barely enough personality to fill a sandwich. I seriously wonder if they had Tails purposefully looking so weak so Classic could look better than he actually is, especially when they had him taking out Chaos in one hit when not even Sonic himself could do that back in the day but yet we're supposed to believe Classic can? And there I go ranting about how Tails is being used these days and Forces again lol. I don't have a problem with Tails getting scared, no courage without fear, what I do have problem with is Classic stepping in and stealing what should have been his moment to step up and regain his lost confidence by fighting Chaos.
@@DemonDethchase I agree, this is an excellent summary of my feelings of Tails as well. Although I haven't gotten to forces yet I HATE CLASSIC SONIC AND THE TWO WORLD CRAP! I don't understand why they can't just say that Mania or whatever took place in between Sonic 3K, 4, and SA1 and just leave it at that ya know? Also, same I remember I was laughing so hard at the chaos classic sonic "fight". Chaos is one of my favorites and to see him go down in ONE HIT to Classic Sonic with Chaos being up and forgotten afterward was frustrating to say the least. It was also funny to me as I played SA1 again relatively recently and seeing Tails having such an awesome arc in it compared to Forces Tails (which I know has been talked to death now) was sad at the very least. I'm with ya though, I will sit on the sonic subreddit ranting about Tails and how Knuckles has become Homer Simpson tier stupid in the past games. Hopefully 2021 leads us to a better game...I know this sounds ridiculous but at this point, I will take a mediocre game gameplay-wise if the story is good. Best of both worlds would be great story and gameplay ofc ;)
@@Eldarin I hear you about the two worlds as I always saw Sonic being the person from the very first game in 1991 to now. Or maybe more Black Knight as he doesn't feel the same ever since 2010s with Free Riders and Colours being more focused on telling jokes and not taking things seriously at all. I never played Forces, I watched the cutscenes and that was more than enough for me, especially when seeing moments when Tails would have gotten involved to help Sonic but if it's not Classic it's the OC, another mute with barely enough personality to fill a sandwich, leaping in taking his place... I'm starting to see a pattern here. If I had it my way I'd have scrapped that thing as well and made it so that the likes of Amy, Knux and Miles would be be playable instead. Like what could have happened, after Tails came back after beating Chaos Amy would have done a Tarot reading saying that Sonic was still alive. Trusting her heart to the cards she'd look to go off and save Sonic alone, not wanting to put anyone else in danger However Tails would catch her sneaking out but he'd offer to help her due to his own emotional connection to Sonic being his best friend/big brother and they'd go off together to mount a daring rescue. It'd be alot better than some no name Joe with no connection to Sonic going instead. Also with Chaos I do remember seeing Characters In-Depth as well making comment about how Tails and Chaos are made to weak in that scene to make Classic look better than what he is. Also as well Classic should stay in his lane.

I got Forces for free and while the ideas are kinda cool just about everything falls flat on its face. Thats a really good idea about your rework for Forces. My favorite cutscene from Forces is the """"grand""" battle at the end where it looks like a fan made 7 year old in blender made the fight. I was actually laughing while watching it. Blows my mind that the CGI cutscenes from '06-Black Knight still look quite gorgeous and they cant even make cutscenes of that tier 15 years later! Characters-In Depth is a great channel he is actually one of the reasons I started this channel :)
I'm so damn glad I entirely skipped the first episode. If this was named something like "Sonic & Tails: Portable Adventure" or something and if Episode 1 didn't exist at all this would've been decently praised more than it has actually been.
I often forget that these games exist nowadays. I don't like these games I think they're very generic but I do think this game is much better than the first episode.
It does make me wonder if we will ever get an official "Sonic 5" or "4" again (excluding Mania I mean by title) and if they would learn from the mistakes of S4... Thanks for watching!
Lets remember two things, if you play this game for the first time in your android, and rush your metal sonic phases till you reach the 3rd one, theres a high chance your background breaks and starts to copy metal sonic's model multiple times (and also items) And also a funny thing, if u lose ur rings, most of times they'l probably get sucked into the ground, making you unable to get them back :D

I played this game fully and actually obtained all the chaos emeralds, but to be honest it was one of the more easier sonic games I’ve played and even the chaos emeralds weren’t too bad. To add to the difficulty, I would’ve made the team-up combos cost a small amount of rings, like 5-10, but if the play doesn’t have any rings and gets stuck at a section were you need to team up then the team up would be free, this change would be for when you miss a jump and just rely on tails to bring you back up (like you stated) you would still have a slight penalty instead of a free rescue. Also I would up the difficulty on the special stages to gradually increase in difficulty instead of getting smacked in the face by stage 7, I swear I got through special stages 1-6 like a cake walk, then special stage 7 takes my 7 try’s to perfect. Still a pretty fun game though
Having worked on Episode 1 as a Tester at SEGA Europe it was a joy I ended up working on Sonic Collection for the DS which got me on Sonic 4 my name's in the credits of both games as well as the wearhog one, good times. By the time Episode 2 came out I was no longer working for the company. I would return in 2017 to 2019 good times! I never got to play Episode 2 but I found memories of Episode 1.
At 2:13, i'm not so sure after the prequels if it was a good idea to heavily involve George Lucas in the sequels. Maybe as an idea man, but throw away most of his ideas. Also why the excessive amount of springs and dash panels?!

Personally, from what the outline of Lucas' sequels were I thought they would've been awesome and at the very least better than what we got since it would've been cohesive. That's just my opinion though! Also, the excessive amount of springs and dash panels is a staple of DIMPS design, not really sure why as it can be pretty cheap in some points but I felt it was executed better than S4E1. I don't get why they don't just pick the best, most popular fan games, contact the developer(s) and say that they want to officially release the game for a reasonable compensation. Most makers of these fan games would probably jump on the opportunity to have their creation become an official Sonic title, most of the work would already be done, and SEGA owns the rights to the intellectual property.
I always said that if they would’ve re-tooled Episode I to look and play like Episode II and gave us Episode III with Knuckles, Sonic 4 would’ve been a solid little trilogy. Crazy that even after the release of Superstars, Sonic Team has been completely outclassed and shown up by Christian Whitehead and Headcannon with the release of Sonic Mania. Superstars is solid, but $60 is crazy for that game. I finally took the plunge after seeing that the game was on sale on Xbox for $35 yesterday. Honestly not bad (so far. lol)

There may be some grammar errors and misspelling’s, it’s just to let you know I actually beat this game back in 2017 on my IPhone (when I was in 8th grade good time miss those people) which I enjoyed. I beat this game again which was nice, I got all 7 Chaos Emeralds from Sylvania Castle Zone Act 1 to Oil Desert Act 1 which was idk not as fun I guess. I think Mania Plus is more worth playing since it has Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Mighty and Ray and 12 zones, Encore Mode, Time Attack ect ect even if it’s $20 or something and I never got bored. The physics were better then Episode 1 but I think as a sequel to Sonic 3&K it’s still not as good but with more tweaks and updates to it it’ll be so much better. Since it’s on an IOS I think the game should be heavily updated (if they can idk) like in this list I made which but it’s not too drastic like I like it to be. 1. - Improve the gameplay physics to be exactly like in Sonic 3&K. 2. - Remove a bunch of uneeded Speed-Boosters and Springs in the levels. 3. - Have Tails be playable and you can switch as Tails during the main game like in Heroes. So to make it clear you play as Sonic and can switch and Tails who can fly and both can preform a combo move. When Tails carry Sonic you can touch the jump up to 14 instead of 7 (which I dislike). Like in the Multiplayer if anyone is left behind there’s a call-back button. 4. - Add a new finale boss for Super Sonic in the Death Egg MkII. After defeating it Sonic & Tails goes back to base mode and the cutscenes plays and in the end the Death Egg actually explodes and Little Planet is freed. 5. - Bring in Super Tails. 6. - Fix Episode Metal pls Add more (improved versions) levels, bosses but with Egg Robo’s like in Sonic 3&K Knuckles story, better graphics and better physics and finally have Metal do a Rocket Peel-Out (makes no sense so just call it Rocket-Dash) like with Sonic in Sonic CD as a cool refrence. Here’s another list if they can do for a really big update for Episode 2 again idk if they can do this but here I guess and I’ll back some things from the removed list to here. 1. - Redo Episode 1 into Episode 2 with improved level designs (and remove some gimmicks from some levels). If you got the Special Stages from Episode 2 it carries over to episode 1 so you don’t have to get them all over again which may sound stupid but to me the Episode 1 Speical Stages were awful and Episode 2 is better but to me it’s not good (I’d rather do Mania Plus Encore Mode Speical Stages instead). You can play as both Sonic & Tails still. 2. Add Knuckles (maybe Mighty, Ray) and Amy. Knuckles has the same gameplay Sonic and his Sonic 3&K gameplay but has the Homing-Attack, and has extra buttons for the Glide & Climb (no I don’t want him to be slower and has a less higher jump). Mighty the same like Knuckles and his self from Mania Plus and the extra button is for his ground pound move. The same thing can be said for Ray as his flying is for his extra button so you hold it while flying. Amy also but she can have a Hammer Spin-Dash which acts like Sonic’s CD Super Peel-Out and Hammer slam which can be used tapping an extra button. They can’t be played in Episode 2 unless it’s altered while playing as them but it’s better have them be played in Episode 1’s level instead that’s my opinion at least.
These are genius ideas! I honestly hope they do retweak. I agree this fails as a sequel to 3K but I found this game quite fun on its own and feel its reception would've been alot better if Sonic 4 was not even slapped on it. Thanks for watching it really means alot :D
@@Eldarin Your welcome and also forgot about putting the Elemental Shields in their and they have their separate button for their abilities. Green Shield actually deflects enemy projectiles. Fire Shield has the dash. Bubble the bounce. Electric double jump. I also forgot about having a button to turn off the Super mode. I did a little edit in my phone to see how all the buttons would fit and I think they fit well you can’t see the ground as much but you can still see them either especially when the camera zooms out sometimes. Also improvements in the visuals for Ep 1 and renaming some Splash Vally (same but with different Badniks, rocks, gimmicks and no rehash of the bosses from Sonic 1&2) Circus Rail Like Marage Saloon Act 1 train section mixed in with Mania Plus Flying Battery Act 2 gimmick of going inside and outside of the ship with Circus themes like cannons, strings, rings and such with Badniks that reference curious animals. 1st act is on the train and 2nd is in the circus show. Lost Palace which is a revival of Hidden Palace from Sonic 2 even if it’s in the Mobile port. Mad Gear (not Metropolis Zone but red and silver making it a scary final zone but not bull crap) I actually wrote a massive improvements to the game and have Ep 1 & 2 be combined into a single package while also doing Ep3 which was separate and does have the issue of only having 5 zones but you can have a lock on feature that brings in Ep 1 & 2 zones while changing the level design a bit to blend Platforming, Speed and Exploration while removing the Homing-Attack and Air-Dash and yee the levels would be changed to accommodate that removal features. Ep 3 zones Mountropolis Tropical Wave Mine Canyon Egg Saturn Death Egg Mk II but it takes place in the different area. Little Planet. Okay screw the lock on idea and just have 9 zones from that game be in Sonic 4 Tropical Wave Zone Splash Vally Zone Sylvania Castle Zone Lost Palace Circus Rail Zone White Park Zone Mountropolis Zone Oil Desert Zone Mad Gear Zone Wing Fortress Zone Egg Saturn Zone Death Egg Zone So much ideas I had in mind I’ll add more later.

I don't remember their names but it was two different writers for Ep.5&6 (Irvin Kirshner and Richard Marquand I believe) and although he didn't direct them he did oversee them and knowing Lucas just about everything in those movies had to be oversaw and approved by him to make sure it fit what he envisioned for the OT...making him involved in just about every decision. The part 1 sucks, its buggy, the graphics are bad. The part 2 is also buggy, the graphics are WAY better, the story is cool, but yet, its pretty much a "hold forward and reach the end" kind of game most of the levels, being able to use super sonic in boss fights is cool, but it makes things too easy and boring. Tails actually helps you in this game, wich is cool, he's is actually usefull, specially in special stages, you actually need his help at the final emerald, it's awesome It's like, whatever super sonic can't do, tails is here to help him out. Part 2 has a whole lot of issues, but it's still a sonic game, wich means the game is fun as hell Imo.

I played this game fully and actually obtained all the chaos emeralds, but to be honest it was one of the more easier sonic games I’ve played and even the chaos emeralds weren’t too bad. To add to the difficulty, I would’ve made the team-up combos cost a small amount of rings, like 5-10, but if the player doesn’t have any rings and gets stuck at a section were you need to team up then the team up would be free, this change would be for when you miss a jump and just rely on tails to bring you back up (like you stated) you would still have a slight penalty instead of a free rescue. Also I would up the difficulty on the special stages to gradually increase in difficulty instead of getting smacked in the face by stage 7, I swear I got through special stages 1-6 like a cake walk, then special stage 7 takes my 7 try’s to get the chaos emerald. Still a pretty fun game though
Much like the Boss theme in Episode 1 being based on a Sonic 3D Blast unused track, the White Park Act 2 theme borrows about half of the track from the Twinkle Park castle area, which was also originally a Sonic 3D Blast unused track.

I think that they put the one-emerald-per-stage limit in to prevent you from finding an easy level and cheesing it, because the classic Sonic games didn't let you retread past Acts you had already passed to get the emeralds, which added to their difficulty.
I see what you mean but to counter that also, they classic games had multiple areas per level to get a chance at the special stages..I just personally think they could've executed that better than just reusing sonic 1's method, thats just my opinion though! Hope you enjoyed the video!

Sonic 4 Ep. 2 is much better than Ep. 1. Graphics, music, physics - you name it. I already said my opinion on both Episodes in Ep. 1 video but I have some things to say. The Zones this time are more original but Oil Desert is literally Oil Ocean and the unused Dust Hill, and Sky Fortress literally has Wing Fortress's beta name. The quality of the game is much better and can be seen just by the updated graphics. There aren't that many bad things to say about Ep. 2 as it took the hate and improved what was bad before although if Ep. 3 was ever made then it will probably be the best out of these 3 Episodes much like the Genesis Trilogy.
Also I forgot to mention it in my previous comment that Ep. 1 tried to emulate New Super Mario Bros. style graphics and failed successfully.
That’s interesting about Dust Hill! It was so weird with Ep.2 as most of the development kinda just happened with not much noteworthy things going on. I really wish we would’ve gotten an Ep 3 just to see what would’ve happened with it. That’s really interesting also about the NSMB art style, I didn’t know that! Here’s the entire list of a potential improvements updates for Sonic The Hedgehog 4 Episode 2 (I like to write the entire title just because).
Also you may not understand some things I’m trying to explain.
1. Just have the gameplay physics for Sonic & Tails be exactly like Sonic The Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles.
The physics for Episode 2 were much more bearable but the roll physics aren’t perfect it still doesn’t work as well.
2. You can switch between as Sonic or Tails like in Mania Plus Encore Mode and Heroes.
Add an extra button next to the Combo-Move button to switch between characters.
3. Remove a bunch of Speed-Boosters and Springs that were useless and weren’t needed in the levels.
Example are from some sections in Sylvania Castle Act 1, White Park Act 2, and Oil Desert Act 2 and Wing Fortress Act 2.
4. Have a button that turns off the Super form.
5. Bring back the Elemental Shields and also add a button for their abilities.
The Green Shield can deflect enemy projectiles this time.
6. Since Sonic can go Super and Tails is playable so can Tails since he just did that in Heroes and Mania Plus.
Super Tails would have red pupils, gold fur, angry eyes like Super Sonic, and his hair would go upwards.
7. Bring back the Episode 1 levels and zones into Episode 2 game instead of Episode Metal (I’ll get to it later).
Change the ascetic of Episode 1, improve the lighting and textures, and bring in new Badniks as well or remix old Badniks ideas with a new twist to it.
Move the Episode 1 Zones next to Episode 2 Zones and move Episode Metal to a file under the main game file (the one that says continues and I think under that says multiplayer of something).
Splash Vally Zone:
Well imagine it a mix of colors of Good Future Palm Tree Panic minus the tight space and pipes, Angle Island detailing and forest sections, Emerald Hill showing another islands and clouds.
Same gimmicks but the point of Splash Vally is for the new player to adapt to the physics well in Act 1 while Act 2 (and sadly there’s still an Act 3) brings in the Zones gimmicks.
Act 1 starts during the day time, Act 2 in the lower levels of the Splash Vally location and Act 3 happens during sun-set.
The gimmicks in Splash Vally are swinging vines, moving plat-forms (like in Green Hill Zone), your able to move rocks (like in Angle Island Zone from Sonic 3&K pushing some rocks on a button that’s create forms a plat-form for the player to get to an area Yee not progressing but more of exploring sections and unlocking them), some flowers are just springs (a magenta flower that’s slightly bigger then the rest), Zip-Line like in 3&K Angle Island, and breaking a wall releases a water slide.
Badniks would be Bee’s with stingers kind of like those Badniks in the start of Palm Tree Panic.
Circus Rails Zone:
Imagine Mirage Saloon Act 1 train section but very huge mix with Flying Battery Act 2 going inside and outside of the ship section and pretty big circus rooms in the trains and that’s only for Act 1 which happens during night time while Act 2 takes place a Circus show were Sonic & Tails are fighting against Circus Badniks while preforming tricks with people watching them and cheering and stuff like that and in Act 3 which happens during sun rise and back to the Train with Sonic & Tails chasing Eggman down and then facing him at the end.
Act 1 has circus animal Badniks, breakable and moving boxes, bombs and small rings idk how to say it but it’s were a performer has to be wet (not like that) in order to get through a small ring, bouncing colorful afros (Yee) and bouncing ball (Yee).
Act 2 were gimmicks from Act 1 but amplified.
There bouncing balancing strings with Badniks trowing balls that you can just hit the ball back at the enemy, bouncing ball that you can hit at whatever, swinging poles, multiple ring obstacles with going through bigger once’s to smaller once (I can’t describe it well), bumpers, cannons and hamster wheels kind of.
Act 3 is with the gimmicks of Act 2 but slightly more dangerous with a bit more moving blocks like in Casino Street.
Lost Palace Zone:
Hidden Palace but actually made into the game cannon instead of an Easter egg level in the mobile version.
Act 2 is blue and purple with slightly dangerous versions of act 1’s hazards and gimmicks.
Moving balancing ball things whatever they’re called in Lost Labyrinth, poles with moving spike balls and buttons to open sections and gateways in the levels.
Act 3 shows more of the outside world instead.
The gimmicks include the moving big ball things from Lost Labyrinth chancing Sonic & Tails, water spitting the ball spikes (idk how to describe it unless I show you visually), pipes acts like in Mania Plus Chemical Plant and can help lead to different areas of the levels.
Mad Gear Zone:
It’s silver and gold in Act 1 then Purple and red in Act 2 with some brighter blue and then darker red and bright silver in Act 3 for ascetics.
Some ideas kept but it’s less unfair and there’s moving blocks like in Sonic 1 Green Hill Act 2.
Moving big silver pole thing that Sonic & Tails hangs on while that pole thing moves either up or down.
Oil Ocean’s jumping plat-form
Some Scrap Brain gimmicks here but again it’s not nearly as challenging since it’s the 4th Zone challenging.
This is how I’d redo the levels and also forgot to do the Badniks minus the Circus Rail Zone one but it’s pretty vague.
8. Change some levels like in White Park like have Act 2 be more carnival heavy with gimmicks Based off of games in carnivals so use your imagination (SpongBob reference) and in the end of Act 2 just take place in the rail but have some sections have a train like in Twinkle Park in Sonic Adventure 1 (wasn’t that the name ?)
Oil Desert Zone ascetic be more idk reddish orange with idk purple or shiny dark blue or something idk.
Wing Fortress ascetic just be red, gold and silver.
Death Egg Mk II be like the Death Egg in Sonic 3&K.
Crushing blocks but not fast once, tube thing again, and electrical Badniks (they’re only in that for defense).
9. Improve Episode Metal just by giving it more acts, give Metal a Rocket Peel-Out and a Egg Robo boss battle, and more cutscenes that clears about what Metal is doing by showing Eggman clapping and showing a screen that shows Metal Sonic battle mode move sets have improved and ready after going through that test of going through the sections Sonic & Tails has been through already and then shows the location on were Sonic & Tails is.
10. Improve the Soundtrack to be less Genesis like and more Sonic CD approach instead.
11. Show less warning signs like in the end sections of Oil Desert.
12. Remove some of the video Combo-Move in the levels and let the player know on their own.
13. The Sign-Post jump when running at it like in Sonic 3&K.
14. Have the Red Rings reward you with concept art, art of the game’s Zones and stuff like that.
15. Make a new finale boss battle for Super Sonic & Super Tails to fight Death Egg Hearth Robot.
The heart thing with arms and legs with a Death Egg Robot head thing and change the hearth machine to fit the machine idk I actually made a drawing.
16. Show cutscenes for each acts that transitions from one Zone to another.

If you don’t know who he is then he would eventually become one of the level designers for Sonic Mania as he was a friend of Christian Whitehead. As far as I know they became friends from working together on the fangame, Sonic Nexus. In 2016 the island where both episodes take place was unofficially named as Mirage Island. This occurred during the Sonic 25th anniversary party where Aaron Webber signed a certificate to "authenticate" it. I agree my friend, I was thoroughly surprised how much I enjoyed it after everyone saying Sonic 4 in total was so terrible. I want to go back and get all the achievements on steam once I'm done with SA1. A shame what happened with S4E3 as it honestly would've been really good to great if they just refined what they had in S4E2 Hope you enjoyed the video!

Honestly, I have a soft spot for Sonic 4: Episode 2.
Most of the levels and bosses were original. The Music was great! And the special stages weren't too hard

I'll be honest, as a die hard sonic fan from the 90s I'd still prefare playing watch paint dry simulator for an entire year than put myself through this game again.
The only thing I like to abuse the game is retrying the special stages compared to sonic origins where you have to pay for the retrys with stupid coins.
Sonic4 episode 2 reminds me of Sonic Boom Fire and Ice because it fixed most of the problems in Sonic Boom Shattered Crystal

Episode 2 was pretty good, though I do wish Tails was actually playable. Yes you could say he is playable in multiplayer but if you are playing alone its pretty much impossible to play as him, due to the lack of a character selection function, which you had in the original Mega Drive games, as well as the Advance series. Seriously, what happened? Its not as if you still couldn't have done the tag team moves with Sonic being the one to follow behind, or better yet there could have been a tag team function, not unlike what Mania did with its Encore mode. Or Donkey Kong Country even. Still good though and I wouldn't mind that double spin attack to be brought back as a move in the next 2D game as it seemed pretty cool.
Yeah I never thought about the multiplayer aspect as I was playing single player...it would’ve been nice to play solely as tails. I hope they bring back the duo combos as I think a true 2D game would be fantastic with the foundation of sonic advance 3’s team gameplay. Thanks for watching and hope you enjoyed!!
@@Eldarin Yea it was a cool video and I do feel like one of thing big things me saying about Tails not being playable is because he, along with the other characters have barely had a look in this past decade with it largely being Sonic or bust. And outside outsourced games like Boom or Mania it's been 14 years since he was last playable in a mainline game, with 06 being his last outing. Here's hoping the next game treats him better beyond having to carry that bad tribute act again throughout the whole of Forces due to him being mute and having barely enough personality to fill a sandwich. I seriously wonder if they had Tails purposefully looking so weak so Classic could look better than he actually is, especially when they had him taking out Chaos in one hit when not even Sonic himself could do that back in the day but yet we're supposed to believe Classic can? And there I go ranting about how Tails is being used these days and Forces again lol. I don't have a problem with Tails getting scared, no courage without fear, what I do have problem with is Classic stepping in and stealing what should have been his moment to step up and regain his lost confidence by fighting Chaos.
@@DemonDethchase I agree, this is an excellent summary of my feelings of Tails as well. Although I haven't gotten to forces yet I HATE CLASSIC SONIC AND THE TWO WORLD CRAP! I don't understand why they can't just say that Mania or whatever took place in between Sonic 3K, 4, and SA1 and just leave it at that ya know? Also, same I remember I was laughing so hard at the chaos classic sonic "fight". Chaos is one of my favorites and to see him go down in ONE HIT to Classic Sonic with Chaos being up and forgotten afterward was frustrating to say the least. It was also funny to me as I played SA1 again relatively recently and seeing Tails having such an awesome arc in it compared to Forces Tails (which I know has been talked to death now) was sad at the very least. I'm with ya though, I will sit on the sonic subreddit ranting about Tails and how Knuckles has become Homer Simpson tier stupid in the past games. Hopefully 2021 leads us to a better game...I know this sounds ridiculous but at this point, I will take a mediocre game gameplay-wise if the story is good. Best of both worlds would be great story and gameplay ofc ;)
@@Eldarin I hear you about the two worlds as I always saw Sonic being the person from the very first game in 1991 to now. Or maybe more Black Knight as he doesn't feel the same ever since 2010s with Free Riders and Colours being more focused on telling jokes and not taking things seriously at all.
I never played Forces, I watched the cutscenes and that was more than enough for me, especially when seeing moments when Tails would have gotten involved to help Sonic but if it's not Classic it's the OC, another mute with barely enough personality to fill a sandwich, leaping in taking his place... I'm starting to see a pattern here. If I had it my way I'd have scrapped that thing as well and made it so that the likes of Amy, Knux and Miles would be be playable instead. Like what could have happened, after Tails came back after beating Chaos Amy would have done a Tarot reading saying that Sonic was still alive. Trusting her heart to the cards she'd look to go off and save Sonic alone, not wanting to put anyone else in danger
However Tails would catch her sneaking out but he'd offer to help her due to his own emotional connection to Sonic being his best friend/big brother and they'd go off together to mount a daring rescue. It'd be alot better than some no name Joe with no connection to Sonic going instead.
Also with Chaos I do remember seeing Characters In-Depth as well making comment about how Tails and Chaos are made to weak in that scene to make Classic look better than what he is. Also as well Classic should stay in his lane.
@@DemonDethchase 100% agree, didnt clarify but yeah I basically meant Sonic 1 to SthBK. Colors from what I have seen felt like a reboot but I havent played yet. I got Forces for free and while the ideas are kinda cool just about everything falls flat on its face. Thats a really good idea about your rework for Forces. My favorite cutscene from Forces is the """"grand""" battle at the end where it looks like a fan made 7 year old in blender made the fight. I was actually laughing while watching it. Blows my mind that the CGI cutscenes from '06-Black Knight still look quite gorgeous and they cant even make cutscenes of that tier 15 years later! Characters-In Depth is a great channel he is actually one of the reasons I started this channel :)
I'm so damn glad I entirely skipped the first episode. If this was named something like "Sonic & Tails: Portable Adventure" or something and if Episode 1 didn't exist at all this would've been decently praised more than it has actually been.

I often forget that these games exist nowadays. I don't like these games I think they're very generic but I do think this game is much better than the first episode.
It does make me wonder if we will ever get an official "Sonic 5" or "4" again (excluding Mania I mean by title) and if they would learn from the mistakes of S4... Thanks for watching!
Lets remember two things, if you play this game for the first time in your android, and rush your metal sonic phases till you reach the 3rd one, theres a high chance your background breaks and starts to copy metal sonic's model multiple times (and also items)
And also a funny thing, if u lose ur rings, most of times they'l probably get sucked into the ground, making you unable to get them back :D

The reason the death egg doesn't explode is because there was an episode 3 that got canceled lol.
I played this game fully and actually obtained all the chaos emeralds, but to be honest it was one of the more easier sonic games I’ve played and even the chaos emeralds weren’t too bad. To add to the difficulty, I would’ve made the team-up combos cost a small amount of rings, like 5-10, but if the play doesn’t have any rings and gets stuck at a section were you need to team up then the team up would be free, this change would be for when you miss a jump and just rely on tails to bring you back up (like you stated) you would still have a slight penalty instead of a free rescue. Also I would up the difficulty on the special stages to gradually increase in difficulty instead of getting smacked in the face by stage 7, I swear I got through special stages 1-6 like a cake walk, then special stage 7 takes my 7 try’s to perfect. Still a pretty fun game though

Having worked on Episode 1 as a Tester at SEGA Europe it was a joy I ended up working on Sonic Collection for the DS which got me on Sonic 4 my name's in the credits of both games as well as the wearhog one, good times. By the time Episode 2 came out I was no longer working for the company. I would return in 2017 to 2019 good times! I never got to play Episode 2 but I found memories of Episode 1.

At 2:13, i'm not so sure after the prequels if it was a good idea to heavily involve George Lucas in the sequels. Maybe as an idea man, but throw away most of his ideas. Also why the excessive amount of springs and dash panels?!
OMG Sorry I didn't see this till now >.< (frickin YT notifications never work lmao). Personally, from what the outline of Lucas' sequels were I thought they would've been awesome and at the very least better than what we got since it would've been cohesive. That's just my opinion though! Also, the excessive amount of springs and dash panels is a staple of DIMPS design, not really sure why as it can be pretty cheap in some points but I felt it was executed better than S4E1. I don't get why they don't just pick the best, most popular fan games, contact the developer(s) and say that they want to officially release the game for a reasonable compensation. Most makers of these fan games would probably jump on the opportunity to have their creation become an official Sonic title, most of the work would already be done, and SEGA owns the rights to the intellectual property.

I always said that if they would’ve re-tooled Episode I to look and play like Episode II and gave us Episode III with Knuckles, Sonic 4 would’ve been a solid little trilogy.
Crazy that even after the release of Superstars, Sonic Team has been completely outclassed and shown up by Christian Whitehead and Headcannon with the release of Sonic Mania. Superstars is solid, but $60 is crazy for that game. I finally took the plunge after seeing that the game was on sale on Xbox for $35 yesterday. Honestly not bad (so far. lol)

I actually beat this game back in 2017 on my IPhone (when I was in 8th grade good time miss those people) which I enjoyed.
I beat this game again which was nice, I got all 7 Chaos Emeralds from Sylvania Castle Zone Act 1 to Oil Desert Act 1 which was idk not as fun I guess.
I think Mania Plus is more worth playing since it has Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Mighty and Ray and 12 zones, Encore Mode, Time Attack ect ect even if it’s $20 or something and I never got bored.
The physics were better then Episode 1 but I think as a sequel to Sonic 3&K it’s still not as good but with more tweaks and updates to it it’ll be so much better.
Since it’s on an IOS I think the game should be heavily updated (if they can idk) like in this list I made which but it’s not too drastic like I like it to be.
1. - Improve the gameplay physics to be exactly like in Sonic 3&K.
2. - Remove a bunch of uneeded Speed-Boosters and Springs in the levels.
3. - Have Tails be playable and you can switch as Tails during the main game like in Heroes.
So to make it clear you play as Sonic and can switch and Tails who can fly and both can preform a combo move.
When Tails carry Sonic you can touch the jump up to 14 instead of 7 (which I dislike).
Like in the Multiplayer if anyone is left behind there’s a call-back button.
4. - Add a new finale boss for Super Sonic in the Death Egg MkII.
After defeating it Sonic & Tails goes back to base mode and the cutscenes plays and in the end the Death Egg actually explodes and Little Planet is freed.
5. - Bring in Super Tails.
6. - Fix Episode Metal pls
Add more (improved versions) levels, bosses but with Egg Robo’s like in Sonic 3&K Knuckles story, better graphics and better physics and finally have Metal do a Rocket Peel-Out (makes no sense so just call it Rocket-Dash) like with Sonic in Sonic CD as a cool refrence.
Here’s another list if they can do for a really big update for Episode 2 again idk if they can do this but here I guess and I’ll back some things from the removed list to here.
1. - Redo Episode 1 into Episode 2 with improved level designs (and remove some gimmicks from some levels).
If you got the Special Stages from Episode 2 it carries over to episode 1 so you don’t have to get them all over again which may sound stupid but to me the Episode 1 Speical Stages were awful and Episode 2 is better but to me it’s not good (I’d rather do Mania Plus Encore Mode Speical Stages instead).
You can play as both Sonic & Tails still.
2. Add Knuckles (maybe Mighty, Ray) and Amy.
Knuckles has the same gameplay Sonic and his Sonic 3&K gameplay but has the Homing-Attack, and has extra buttons for the Glide & Climb (no I don’t want him to be slower and has a less higher jump).
Mighty the same like Knuckles and his self from Mania Plus and the extra button is for his ground pound move.
The same thing can be said for Ray as his flying is for his extra button so you hold it while flying.
Amy also but she can have a Hammer Spin-Dash which acts like Sonic’s CD Super Peel-Out and Hammer slam which can be used tapping an extra button.
They can’t be played in Episode 2 unless it’s altered while playing as them but it’s better have them be played in Episode 1’s level instead that’s my opinion at least.
These are genius ideas! I honestly hope they do retweak. I agree this fails as a sequel to 3K but I found this game quite fun on its own and feel its reception would've been alot better if Sonic 4 was not even slapped on it. Thanks for watching it really means alot :D

Your welcome and also forgot about putting the Elemental Shields in their and they have their separate button for their abilities.
Green Shield actually deflects enemy projectiles.
Fire Shield has the dash.
Bubble the bounce.
Electric double jump.
I also forgot about having a button to turn off the Super mode.
I did a little edit in my phone to see how all the buttons would fit and I think they fit well you can’t see the ground as much but you can still see them either especially when the camera zooms out sometimes.
Also improvements in the visuals for Ep 1 and renaming some
Splash Vally (same but with different Badniks, rocks, gimmicks and no rehash of the bosses from Sonic 1&2)
Circus Rail
Like Marage Saloon Act 1 train section mixed in with Mania Plus Flying Battery Act 2 gimmick of going inside and outside of the ship with Circus themes like cannons, strings, rings and such with Badniks that reference curious animals.
1st act is on the train and 2nd is in the circus show.
Lost Palace which is a revival of Hidden Palace from Sonic 2 even if it’s in the Mobile port.
Mad Gear (not Metropolis Zone but red and silver making it a scary final zone but not bull crap)
I actually wrote a massive improvements to the game and have Ep 1 & 2 be combined into a single package while also doing Ep3 which was separate and does have the issue of only having 5 zones but you can have a lock on feature that brings in Ep 1 & 2 zones while changing the level design a bit to blend Platforming, Speed and Exploration while removing the Homing-Attack and Air-Dash and yee the levels would be changed to accommodate that removal features.

I don't remember their names but it was two different writers for Ep.5&6 (Irvin Kirshner and Richard Marquand I believe) and although he didn't direct them he did oversee them and knowing Lucas just about everything in those movies had to be oversaw and approved by him to make sure it fit what he envisioned for the OT...making him involved in just about every decision. I was talking in broad strokes, but my mistake for not clarifying that. Hope you liked the video!

I can't beat the First boss
The part 1 sucks, its buggy, the graphics are bad.
The part 2 is also buggy, the graphics are WAY better, the story is cool, but yet, its pretty much a "hold forward and reach the end" kind of game most of the levels, being able to use super sonic in boss fights is cool, but it makes things too easy and boring.
Tails actually helps you in this game, wich is cool, he's is actually usefull, specially in special stages, you actually need his help at the final emerald, it's awesome
It's like, whatever super sonic can't do, tails is here to help him out.
Part 2 has a whole lot of issues, but it's still a sonic game, wich means the game is fun as hell Imo.

If I would rate sonic 4 episode 2 uh think it would deserve a 6 out of 10 now if I was about to rank this game with the classic 4 games I would put in it under ever one of the games sorry just u can beat sonic 2 or 3 but this game isn’t that bad actually it’s okay I find the game cool and some what enjoyable actually also if I would rate sonic episode 1 I mean 0/10 no need to explain right ?
Episode 2 is better than episode 1, that’s not saying much because episode 2 isn’t good. It still sucks but it’s better than episode 1. Idk, maybe people’s expectations were so low and I understand that.

I could of enjoyed this if I didn't play on some shitty mobile. The graphics are terrible and sonic doesn't even have emotions
I played this game fully and actually obtained all the chaos emeralds, but to be honest it was one of the more easier sonic games I’ve played and even the chaos emeralds weren’t too bad. To add to the difficulty, I would’ve made the team-up combos cost a small amount of rings, like 5-10, but if the player doesn’t have any rings and gets stuck at a section were you need to team up then the team up would be free, this change would be for when you miss a jump and just rely on tails to bring you back up (like you stated) you would still have a slight penalty instead of a free rescue. Also I would up the difficulty on the special stages to gradually increase in difficulty instead of getting smacked in the face by stage 7, I swear I got through special stages 1-6 like a cake walk, then special stage 7 takes my 7 try’s to get the chaos emerald. Still a pretty fun game though
