      "Supporting Israel"? What does that mean? As an Israeli, "supporting Israel" means doing anything in your power to topple this evil government and push for a regional agreement that will include Palestinian statehood. "Israel" isn't one thing like the "U.S." isn't one thing. Do you "support the U.S."?

    • @DaemonJax
      @DaemonJax Месяц назад +4

      Congress approves the funding in some way, shape, or form. It could take years after approval for the arms to actually be sent, so that gives israel a year or two buffer for arms shipments due to the strategic pre/past approvals already in existance. This exploits a technical loophole around the normal procedures as many would understand them. It's not an accident.

    Ya know, if this were 2 years ago, I would've said at that point in time that Biden was on track to be the best president of my entire lifetime. (Born in 1983). With the caveat that the bar to pass that is on the floor.
    Every president of my lifetime has been just fine or amazing FOR THE ELITE of America. But for regular Americans, every single president since I was born has been garbage. None of them have done anything significant to improve working class people's lives. In fact, since I was born, things have just gotten worse and worse for the working class. That is until Biden became president.
    Now yes, Biden had some serious failures to be a pro-working class president. Such as campaigning on a public option and then completely abandoning the idea as soon as elected. Or campaigning on 2k stimulus checks and then only giving us $1400 checks. Or hiding behind the Parliamentarian as an excuse not to raise the minimum wage...again, as I said, the bar to pass to be the best president is ON THE FLOOR. Nevertheless, during his first 2 years, Bernie Sanders was influential on Biden, and he overall governed to the left of what everyone expected. He ended the 20-year Afghanistan war despite immense pressure to not. He passed major infrastructure legislation. He got Medicare the power to negotiate prescription drugs like Canada. Most importantly, he appointed actual pro-working class people to labor positions. Because of Biden, we have the best NLRB since FDR. Because of that, there have been gigantic wins for the labor movement. The biggest wins of my lifetime, in fact. So because of those things, I would've said Biden is the best president of my lifetime.
    BUT THEN he changed his Chief of Staff and has since shifted to the right where he's been most of his career and where progressives expected him to be as president. And since then, he's been hemorrhaging support from his party base. On two issues alone-immigration and Israel, he's managed to wipe away all of his victories that I mentioned. To the point that he's now a wash as far as best presidents go. Instead of listening to his base and continuing the trajectory he was going in his first 2 years, he's now using the same failed strategy Hillary tried in 2016 of ignoring the base and pandering to these mythological "moderate Republicans" that wouldn't vote for him if you put a gun to their heads. Which is going to result in Trump winning again.
    Such a shame.

Count your fcking blessings for having to deal with the common cold instead of full-blown terminal azz cancer. All of the complaints you listed aren't even things that the White House can change. Thank 50 years of Republican shenanigans for all the nonsensical, manufactured social issues and realize that political exhaustion is part of their plan to get you to say "it doesn't matter who we vote for anyways." Realize that it most certainly can get much much worse and get over your childish dream of expecting social change in a 4 year presidential term.

      You’re exactly right. Add to that he did the right thing with helping Ukraine in the early days, even going there during a very dangerous time. Since Oct 7 of last year, he’s totally lost his bearings. His saying he saw pictures of beheaded babies that didn’t actually exist, was VERY worrying, and since then he’s done nothing redeeming, nothing clarifying. It’s a crying shame that he forced himself on the electorate for a second election, rather than passing the torch, as he had promised. It’s also a damn shame that he allowed his DOJ to do nothing about the insurrection, so the coup remains ongoing. He’s made a couple of HUGE mistakes.

    The Admin choices make a lot more sense when you recognize the US knew Israel would be doing this genocide in advance from as far back as October 2022, when Israel reached out to tell US a coastal NG deal was going back on the table, after all parties agreed the area was too conflict prone to pursue as long as Palestine wasn't controlled over a decade before. We not only agreed but negotiated what we get out of it when our envoys landed to discuss in Israel last June. A Site 512 military base expansion in Israel for permanent troop deployment. An otherwise useless sea dock to take heavy weapons for 512 in directly from Navy vessels without having to go through Egyptian border crossing. A renewed offshore natural gas drilling deal from 2006. Just look at how Biden announced the closure of US NG projects exporting to global markets a few months ago, saying the US "needn't supply the world markets" when in fact we also buy our own NG from those same world markets. We didn't redirect the supply, we just removed it - making the future demand that much higher and giving himself a ready made excuse as to why US companies offshore drilling in Palestine would be essential when questioned about it. US brokered a Lebanon / Israel agreement last year to open up the coasts for development and make this possible.
    We've known from the start. We said yes to genocide and have made heroic efforts to facilitate mass murder because our brass ring is Empire expansion via an operating base in Israel. Aaron Bushnell knew that when he got the papers he would be deployed there.
