I don’t know if Canadians love maple syrup more than New Englanders but, fortunately, it’s not a contest. Maple syrup deepens the flavor of anything you want sweetened. Huzzah!!
Yeah recently it seems to me shes holding herself back very hard. I would too, but Im not sure to what degree a camera could make me behave with that kind of cake in front of me
Most chefs melting chocolate: Chops up the chocolate before melting. Glen: Recreates the ending of Terminator 2 with a chocolate bunny as T-800 minus the thumbs up.
One of the reasons why I love this channel so much is that I think you cook the way most people have cooked throughout time, they used what they had. You are also not afraid to experiment and let us know how bad or good it came out. I feel like with the advent of cable TV networks and/or programs dedicated to cooking they focus too much making things perfect. Just like in your cookbook series, sometimes you just have to cook with what you have.
Licking the spatula was my favorite part. My mom grew up in Vermont and she was very clear about the difference in taste between REAL maple syrup and all the others. After tasting the real stuff, I had to admit she was right.
The chocolate bunny went out like a soldier, giving his life for his country men. The cake looked great and is definitely one that I'll try to replicate.
I've really been appreciating the channel and the modified or make-what-you-have recipes. This one looks particularly delicious! Thanks again to you both, Glen and Julie.
Oh the bunny melt! It is an intriguing combination of flavors. My favorite part was Julies trepidation and then delight at the flavor combination. Thanks for this unique recipe.
The bunny slowly sinking into the pot, smiling all the time was riveting! I used your yogurt & milk strategy to make your soda bread -- I used half milk, half yogurt. Bread turned out beautiful and delicious, so it obviously worked. But the dough never got unsticky -- when I tried to knead it on a floured board, my hands were just coated with dough. I had to scrape my hands as well as the board. I think when (not if, it's soooo good!) I make it again, I'll just leave it in the bowl and knead it right in there since it doesn't need that much kneading.
This really is a great cake, even when it lays in crumbles after my failed attempt to get it out of cake tin. When its still warm its so moist and it got a great crust. This will definetly go into my standard recipe book, so thanks for the recipe and keep up the good work.
What kind of chocolate did you use? I want to make this but I don't want to use my baking chocolate bars, lol. I have a couple of bags of chocolate chips. Would much rather use those....
Wow! Great job Glen...re-using that Easter bunny. I wish those of us in the US could have access to your maple syrup. Oh well, we'll survive...atleast we can watch you and Julie enjoy it here.
I love that the timestamps in the description are picked up somehow in my browser or addon and became a function for RUclips now, how it it breaks the video into sections with the labels
Even if I have nuts, I have no nuts for baked goods ever. ;) Maple and chocolate definitely pair well, may have to give this a go! Actually, I could see with molasses and some ginger and other warming spices, too.
My maternal grandmother was from New Brunswick but I grew up in Vermont. Maple is definitely an eastern North American thing not just a Canadian ingredient.
One substitute I use for buttermilk is to take 1 tablespoon of vinegar or lemon juice and add enough milk to reach a single cup and continue with that ratio until I have the amount of liquid I need. I don't normally buy yogurt or sour cream, but I always have a little vinegar or a lemon in my pantry.
I loved watching the bunny melt. Do you have buttermilk powder that you put with the dry and add liquid with the wet in Canada? Why are you having so much trouble at the store? Here in Michigan we are not that bad. Maple and chocolate yummy.
I've never seen anyone make buttermilk like that. I don't buy any because I don't use it often but when I do I make mine by adding white vinegar. Could I do the same with this recipe?
If you're using only baking soda it's important to have something acidic in your batter (like buttermilk or yoghurt) to help it rise. Otherwise it's better to use a pre-formulated baking powder.
It depends of the chocolate company. I had a Lindt chocolate bunny that was very good. See's Candy is also very good. You may have heard of Sarris Chocolate living where you do. All excellent chocolate, bunny notwithstanding.
I just saw a video where they mentioned Canadians make and eat a Ketchup cake. I am hoping you can make this on your channel, so we can see if it’s as bad as it sounds.
Question: I'm assuming that you are measuring in Canadian measurements, not US, correct? I'm converting to grams, (I prefer weighing) but I realized that the cups just may be different.
Thanks for watching everyone! Full recipe in the description box.
Where did you get the GIANT maple syrup?

“Maple syrup goes on everything” needs to be on a shirt!
pour vous "www.insider.com/how-to-make-kfc-fried-chicken-at-home-recipe-2020-5"
Just watching Bunny in fast melt alone was worth the video. The rest was a bonus.
How Canadian is he? "I wish everyone could have as much maple syrup as I have, because it just brightens my day to no end."
Stephanie Morgan: Maple syrup/maple sugar is one of the best things Eastern Canada’s ever done for the West Coast!!!
Maple syrup really be like that tho
I don’t know if Canadians love maple syrup more than New Englanders but, fortunately, it’s not a contest. Maple syrup deepens the flavor of anything you want sweetened. Huzzah!!
Most Canadian thing ever. He just whips out an entire gallon jug of maple syrup. 😆
It's gotta be 5 gallons!
And topped off is buttermilk with some amazing milk bags.
I look forward to seeing Julie do the taste test. Julie makes me smile.
Yeah recently it seems to me shes holding herself back very hard. I would too, but Im not sure to what degree a camera could make me behave with that kind of cake in front of me
To me she often comes across as patronizing and dismissive.
I was surprised. She didn't say it needed more vegetables. :)
“Maple Syrup goes with everything!”
I am getting a Canadian vibe.
The bag of milk didn't give it away?
This needs to be on a shirt!!!!
@@legomojo We're so committed to bags we sell bags of milk in bags!
Bet the Americans don't sell their jugs of milk inside other jugs. Casuals.
Listen to how Glen pronounces Out and About.
It is more Oot and Aboot...
Most chefs melting chocolate: Chops up the chocolate before melting.
Glen: Recreates the ending of Terminator 2 with a chocolate bunny as T-800 minus the thumbs up.
🤣 your comment cracked me up. i was trying to think of how to describe that melting bunny, and yes, that's what it was.
I love that we just sat and watched a time-lapse of you murdering an innocent chocolate rabbit
I usually start with biting the head off. But, this was also enjoyable.
@@eingames9931 i had that thought as i saw those poor ears just go to waste...lol

Agreed!
Kenyatta Clay totally. My grandmother cooked the exact same way. If it worked great, if it didn’t no big deal.
I think one of my favorite parts is when you taste the spatula. The look in your eyes was a treat.
Winning quote du jour, "Come on! Maple syrup goes with everything."
Anyone else hear the wicked witch screech, "I'm melting!"?
What do you mean?
@@henry7001 From the movie The Wizard of Oz
exactly...yes, i did...but somehow i had soooo much more pity for the bunny!
Glen: "Maple syrup goes with everything." Also Glen: "I wish everybody could have as much maple syrup as I have."
So do we, Glen. So do we.
The sequence of that bunny melting is priceless, worthy of "The dangerous kitchen show".
Your jug of maple syrup makes me happy, too.
Watching the bunny melt was worth the view!
"maple syrup goes with everything" wisconsin agrees with you whole heartedly
Rook9696 lol
That bunny melting time lapse 😂🤣😂😂 That cake looks good!
Licking the spatula was my favorite part. My mom grew up in Vermont and she was very clear about the difference in taste between REAL maple syrup and all the others. After tasting the real stuff, I had to admit she was right.
"Let's start by melting this down." Hilarious to see the bunny shrinking in the pot.
Looks good. I like that he licks the beaters, the spoon, etc...lol
I always come back to this channel to see Julie’s reaction. Love that laugh especially during these COVID days.
Okay you got me at maple...had to watch... thank you for the recipe!
Ohhhhh that giant bottle of maple syrup is a dream!!!! I wish I had a bottle that big in my fridge too 🤤 Maple syrup is a gift from Heaven. 😍❤️
The chocolate bunny went out like a soldier, giving his life for his country men. The cake looked great and is definitely one that I'll try to replicate.
Rather satisfying watching the bunny melt.
I enjoy watching you cook and both of you test the results. Maple syrup and walnuts are a traditional combination; so are chocolate and almonds.
The image of the bunny melting was hilarious!
I've really been appreciating the channel and the modified or make-what-you-have recipes. This one looks particularly delicious! Thanks again to you both, Glen and Julie.
0:27 to 0:50 is a big 2020 kind of mood.
I bet that would be even better with dark chocolate. Thanks for the videos. They're comforting and fun in this stressful time.
I cannot get over the size of your maple syrup jug!!! Heaven!!! 😁
Oh the bunny melt! It is an intriguing combination of flavors. My favorite part was Julies trepidation and then delight at the flavor combination. Thanks for this unique recipe.
My mom work at a CVS pharmacy and they have leftover solid Godiva chocolate bunny. She picked up for me. Now I know what to do with it.
A gallon jug of maple syrup....I am green with envy!
Unexpectedly satisfying to watch that bunny melt lol

Sign of the times. I enjoyed watching the bunny melt toooo much! 🤣
In the past making a cake out of a chocolate bunny might have seemed like a gimmick. Doesn’t seem like one now...
It's a fine strat in general. The leftover chocolate from easter/valentines/etc. gets marked down heavily.
cool ill make this tomorrow, thanks for the recipe
Hugs for Jules 🤗😂
RIP easter bunny🐰😂
Very creative with the bunny chocolate.
Wow! Great job Glen...re-using that Easter bunny. I wish those of us in the US could have access to your maple syrup. Oh well, we'll survive...atleast we can watch you and Julie enjoy it here.
Woah, maple syrup cake sounds awesome! I'm from Texas, so I have very limited experience with real maple syrup, but this looks and sounds amazing
very good recipe, thank you!
I have to agree a good maple syrup goes on everything or in everything, mmm
Gourgios beautiful 😍 maple syrup chocolate cake yummmm 😋👍🤩👌🤩

did anyone else say 'awwwwww' as the bunny began to melt ? :D :D :D
What a nice vid to watch with my tea and toast! (Topped with homemade marmalade.... I was lazy and bought some wheat bread yesterday though!)
Maple Syrup does go with everything.
Glen, the amazing Canadian chef with his jug-o-maple syrup.
You have a River Cottage book, awesome.
I'm Greek and yea maple syrup does go with everything.
That looks yummy. When you were talking about mixing the yogurt and milk I was ahhh bag milk ;) how does missing yogurt and milk help the cake?
Even if I have nuts, I have no nuts for baked goods ever. ;) Maple and chocolate definitely pair well, may have to give this a go! Actually, I could see with molasses and some ginger and other warming spices, too.
My maternal grandmother was from New Brunswick but I grew up in Vermont. Maple is definitely an eastern North American thing not just a Canadian ingredient.
The maple jug reminds me of a jug if moonshine!
OMG !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! yes !!!!! 💖❤❣
The shot of the bunny melting describes 2020 so well.
Ricardo has a recipe for maple syrup cake, no white sugar and it’s marvellous
In my country we made something similar to this cake, but with palm sugar called(Gula Merah)

that jar of maple syrup tho :O

2:44 I wish I could too, Glen, I wish I could too. Your jug of maple syrup would easily go for several hundred dollars in the USA.
Glen, when I need buttermilk, I use 1 T of vinegar sit in 1/2 C of milk. Works fine.
not nearly the same. yogurt and milk are a much better approximation
Every time Glen uses maple syrup: cries in Brazilian. hahahahah
I've never seen anyone make buttermilk like that. I don't buy any because I don't use it often but when I do I make mine by adding white vinegar. Could I do the same with this recipe?
It feels like the cake will be more muffin or cup cake like rather than smooth and fluffy pastry like. Am I correct?
Could you use molasses?
"So you have to test it with a cake tester." "Yep, that tests OK!" :-)
Melting bunny so satisfying!
The canadian really jumped out here. It looks great.
Bunny slowly sinking in quicksand!
I found it oddly satisfying to watch the bunny melt.
I'm laughing way too hard at that bunny melting.
argghhh a little part of me died when the nuts went in lol
“The rabbit should give me enough chocolate”
Every time Glen says to scrape the bowl around the outside Chef John pops into my head and repeats that line.
I suppose that the piece of cake at the end is Glen's!
Chocolate Bunny: I'm melting! Melting! Oh, what a world ...
Reminds me of the T-1000 melting in Terminator 2 with less fanfare.
Epic
Why did I get the distinct feeling you melted Julie's bunny without telling her first?
I found it oddly satisfying to watch the Easter bunny slowly melting... is that wrong? :P
Watching the bunny melt was an odd highlight of my day
I'm melting.........

I was just thinking, "oh No Mr. Bill , I am Melting"
I know it's chocolate cake but it really looks like ontbijtkoek/peperkoek in texture and colour.
It depends of the chocolate company. I had a Lindt chocolate bunny that was very good. See's Candy is also very good. You may have heard of Sarris Chocolate living where you do. All excellent chocolate, bunny notwithstanding.
True - I overgeneralised about the chocolate, I was mostly thinking of the mass market / 'off brand' bunnies that pop up each spring.
I just saw a video where they mentioned Canadians make and eat a Ketchup cake. I am hoping you can make this on your channel, so we can see if it’s as bad as it sounds.
Rice syrup? Agave?
I really wish I could have dairy and enjoy a beautiful chocolate cake 😭
Missing Audio layer: The Bad Witch.. "Oh no.. what a world.. I'm melting.. i'm melting.. "
Never tasted maple syrup... Used to love black treacle (molasses) and folder syrup (Lyons only thank you)
Question: I'm assuming that you are measuring in Canadian measurements, not US, correct? I'm converting to grams, (I prefer weighing) but I realized that the cups just may be different.
I’m using Canadian cups, and Metric Volume
Used to make Easter bunny pie. Chocolate cream pie for cheap.
