- After failing to run 8s last weekend we decided to add nitrous to the MX5 to help get the turbo up on boost quickly.

Aim the purge exhaust at the inter cooler, I’m sure you could trigger the purge if the IAT gets too high

I'm getting a Mad Max/ Back to the future vibe from you Scotty. Next comes the tubo skateboard.
Scotty, I can get you set up with a Carnivore bottle containment device. The bottle goes into an enclosure that has a thermostat. If the bottle is too warm, it'll kick on a cooling fan, if it's too cool, it'll kick on the fan with a heating element. You can wire it direct into the car's battery or wire a small drill battery to prevent running your car's battery down. I know how hot it can get there.

I feel your pain mate! We were the at the twilight event in the clapped out VP hunting for 15's while you were going for 8's 😂 We ended up barely cracking into the 15's with 15.992! We've gutted it now and I'm probably going to strap a turbo to it this week and then come hunt down Super Mang if our car will last one pass hahah
Props to you for still being a normal bloke off camera mate,. Scottie let us take a photo of our one year old wearing his Lightning Mcqueen hat next to the MX5 just as they were about to start filming. Most people would say gtfo if they're at this level, but ol' Scott was more then happy for it and appreciated it just as much as us. I'm trying to start a RUclips channel based around cars as well and I'm at the early stages and can't bring my self to record in front of so many people but you do a top job mate and are our inspiration 💪

My understanding with N2O on the street in Victoria is you're fine as long as the main hose is disconnected at the bottle end whilst you are on the street.

Ah i hope you have a boost scramble button and an nitrous override . A hundred shot would give you a good help if you dont want more boost . More boost = heat . More nitrous = cooling . Could you run 2 lines to the nozzle with 100 hp each and choose when to run 1 and then both to make a 200hp hit .
I had the same proflow intercooler and it turned into a balloon at 22psi. Good luck!

In other breaking news, Scottie's life insurance premiums set to skyrocket.
Scotty, I live near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in the northeastern US and I not only have a 709 wheel horsepower 1997 Honda Civic coupe, but I also have a 2004 Acura TL with a six speed manual swap and a 2007 Acura TL Type-S manual ECU with Hondata FlashPro, so I am in the process of turbocharging it as well. I have had to fabricate everything for the turbo kit on my own, so I'm almost there, but I hope that it'll be really soon to where I can get it all installed and working together properly. I don't expect 500 whp out of a 11.5:1 compression 220,000 mile engine, but 3-5 lbs of boost will be fun enough.

From what ive found the fastest mx5 was lee docherty in a rotary powered. This should be able to do it once its dialed in. I think your about 7th with a 9.0.. A hard top might help down the strip too. Oem tops are expensive, but theres a guy in vic that makes carbon roofs cheaper.
Thats in the world... The fastest bp powered mx5 had 740hp and did 8.40.
Just remember, there are two kinds of cars, those with nitrous and those that need nitrous.
I can't wait to see how much of a different this will be with the nitrous and it will be interesting to see what the power output will be with that intercooler fitted and then changing to the other one, would like to see the power different from just that swap over.

Ah this is pretty much the setup lord humongous has in mad Max 2. Hope there's no semi at the end of the quarter.
Delta fin,I'm not so sure on but at least you can go to a plazaman or similar good quality core. I'm running the proflow black 450x300x100 on my Volvo and the idea is I can go to a better design core, given that sort of size is similar to an xr6t and there are huge HP plazaman cores and the like available. No need to change piping?
Now you fitted nitrous it would be a shame not to ply with it more and do multi stage system and other shots just to see how much the gains would be ?

I guess this is easier than pulling the box for a looser convertor. Ditch the cooler and put it on Methanol. Won't even need the nitrous to spool. 👍
Quicker and easier, we'll look at getting the converter sorted next year

"the function of a purge solenoid is to sell more nitrous". There's no such thing as "dirty" nitrous. If you're worried about air in the nitrous lines after changing a bottle, just turn the nitrous on and give the engine a quick rev in idle (no load) - the pressurised liquid will blast any air out of the lines near instantaneously.

Go w2a with your old cooler, the specific heat of water is really high and it works better as a transfer medium especially with ice, you'll find it'll work fine for a the first run with the pump turned off even, put its heat exchanger infront of the a2a intercooler, put a kevlar sheet over the nitrous with a thin burst panel under it so it explodes down under the car lol
He’s done it on super mang
It shouldn’t ever explode as the bottle valve is fitted with a burst panel unless you block it off and heat incorrectly to where it damages the bottles integrity

Is the torque converter too tight? Higher stall, increase the leave RPM and it should have boost fast.
At the moment it is, we could change that or add nitrous. We chose to add nitrous.

All the purging (on and off camera) plus all the testing and set up Zane did with multiple transbrake hits (10-15 times) used two pounds of nitrous. If you're going to comment, please know what you're talking about

6:30 No, they shoot you on the spot. I'm responsible for the rule being the way it is (must be disconnected at the nitrous bottle with NO disconnectable lines or T-pieces) because of my actions one Sunday night at Auburn Macca's, causing a $10000 fine to be ripped up. 😂👍
In nsw, you can’t have any components of a nitrous system on a registered car

"The fitting of nitrous oxide injection systems is not permitted under any circumstances. *This includes a partial installation or a disconnectable nitrous oxide system being fitted to a vehicle.* "
That 2nd part, the disconnectable nitrous, is what I am referring to. I used a 100hp dry nitrous kit and got out of a $10000 fine way back in the day due to a disconnectable T-piece for the nitrous lines. 😎👍 I was hooked up at bottle, hooked up at the nozzle, cop just never knew about the T-piece and wrote the fine and I showed the T-piece disconnected and had the fine ripped up.

@@chuxshed587 Yeah I know that buddy. This law WASN'T in effect as it stands before my events that night. We were allowed to have kits in the car, just not fitted and ready to be armed, hence the 2nd part of the rule change that I bolded as it was specifically to the events that night. The law was amended back in 1998 to what it is now, so it gives you an indication of how long ago I did this. I was an FTP kid back then with a brain for knowing the car laws. 😉👍

(hopefully not, with the haltech) You're now full hoff (nugget garage) spec with powerglide and nitrous, I'm kinda disappointed after carefully explaining the proper mounting of the bottle clamp you didn't just tek screw it
The IHRA tech guys were very adamant that they wanted it mounted properly :)

Maybe I should elaborate- 'Nangs' is Australian slang for small canisters of nitrous oxide, often inhaled for a 'rush', similar to that provided by amphetamines. Nitrous oxide is used to make fast cars even faster. I guess other people don't find the name 'Super-Nang' as funny as I do!
Get it back on the dyno and turn it up.
Save yourself the extra work and get a quality cooler that’s the same or similar size to the old one, plazmaman do a similar size. I run one making over 1200hp👌🏿

Provided the nitrous comes on and some weird shit doesn't happen. It has to run 8's. I know they are famous last words, but with it spooling so poorly last outing, and still nearly cracking the 8, this has to make a couple of tenths difference just leaving with the right boost level. So what's the next obstacle to stop it? Too much wheel spin to launch it properly? And if it doesn't run an 8 tweak the Haltech to feed it nitrous during the run.

Hmmm, running a tap with a drill triggered the tradesman in me. It would be fine on a mang as what threads arent stipped on a typical one, but not a proper built anything.

Well, i suppose if you get it right the 1st time its fine, as opposed to a 10 minute segment of doing it by hand the way i was taught. Half turn quater back, then clear the swarf then half turn wuater back etc.

No, and why should you? It's a great engine.
If it's pre-throttle body it shouldn't be a vac leak, but could be a boost leak (not sure if that fogger unit has a one way valve or not?!?) - not saying you've done anything wrong, just asking more out of personal interest.
