DIY: PVC Pressurized Water System on a Toyota Tacoma
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 14 июн 2018
- My son works in the field a lot and gets his waders and equipment dirty and muddy. So we came up with this air pressured water tank. It hold around 8 gal. of water. We built the tank out of PVC piping and welded our own brackets to mount inside of his Toyota Tacoma. Since the Tacoma has an electric outlet in the bed it was easy to hook up an air pump . With 25 to 30 psi in the tank the water comes out like a garden hose.Over all it ended up working really well. This would really come in handy when camping or doing other outdoor activities. Everything was bought at a big box store , auto supply and Amazon.

I had this same idea last year for my wife’s greenhouse so it could be on a timer while we are on vacation. You are the only person I’ve seen build this. Thought I had an original idea. I’m adding a battery operated timer for a misting system. Only needs 5 minutes a day. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for watching and what a great idea...
Looks like a fun project Mike! Enjoyed the video 👍🏼👍🏼
Thanks Bros. Keep up the good work guys. 👍👍
You're a great father! Thanks for the tutorial!!
Another One thank you and hope it helps if you build one. 👍👍
This is awesome. Nice job!
Super badass. I'm putting this on my f150. This is a great idea.thank you for the video
Thanks and put one in you'll really like it....
This is the best, easy to follow build yet.....thanks for sharing☺
Thank you and I hope it's useful for you .....
Best water port DIY Vid so far, thanks for sharing the how to!
fuknferdi thank you for the comment and for watching. 👍👍
Cool project. A lot of skills came together on this one! And once again I must compliment your editing.
Jimmie Porter At Stuart Arts thanks Jimmie I use your drill sharpening tip in this build. Thanks for watching my friend. 👍👍
Nice work! Solid video and editing too. Saving this to build my own one day.
Thanks!! Hope it comes in handy for you.👍👍
Great idea brotha! That should work perfectly on my Tacoma also
silentstorm77 thanks and yes make one it really comes in handy. 👍👍
Cool, i build one for my weekend property than i can take a shower after work. Nice job
Jaques Fressier thanks glad you enjoyed it. It really comes in handy in many ways.
Great job, guys!
Glad you liked it
Parabéns...., incrível invenção, prático e ajuda muito!

UAU!! Obrigado👍👍
Very cool idea 👍🏼
Thanks Tomas
Good vid going to make this for work truck cheers bro
mr000hunter000 thanks for watching Bro. Make one you’ll love it. 👍👍
Great video. Thanks!!!
Thanks👍👍
Thanks for sharing this video 👌💪
You are welcome, hope it helps!
This is AWESOME!
Thanks so much👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Cool idea.
Thanks and it really work good.
lol, Dogs are so trusting :)
Yes they are..... Thanks for watching
We do a similar setup to pump diesel from tanks to tank
Cool , I bet that's works great ....
Dude, best video on these showers, I just wish I had a place on my Jeep to mount one haha! I just use a Nemo shower and 7 gallon jugs when I am off grid.
Thanks 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
You can get a 12v wash down pump for like rv , boat etc . They come equipped with a pressure switch to stop water flow when not in use . Fix a hose on one side to drop in your jug and the shower on the other. Hook it to 12v and your good to go
Would be very helpful if you listed out the all the pvc connector parts you used, trying to figure exactly what you used and how on some of those pieces but the video doesn’t show or explain.
Nice job.
Thank you👍👍
Looks like alot of work
Not really...lots of fun.
The Muz Shop - Nice build. Love the custom welded hangers. Hey it's your day job, so of course, your beads are perfect . The quick release system is pure gold. I have a few humble suggestions for the next build. Your paint job which will start to show scratches double quick. Try covering the whole works with black bed liner or undercoat to give it a extra thick skin. You might consider switching the hangers the passenger side. When parked in the street it's a lot easier to fill up with a hose at the curb rather than run it all the way across (undo, around) the truck and perhaps stand in traffic. Once again nice build and thanks for sharing.
ScorpionRegent thanks good tip on the paint. As for the side we mounted it , was because the compartment and outlet for the air compressor was on that side so we didn’t have to run chords across the bed. Worked out great. Thanks again 👍👍
@@TheMuzShop Truth is for the air gap your going to fill on a full tank you could just as easily use a bicycle pump.
This is a great video. I have one of those stupid ass bed liners that’s plastic so I’m not quite sure where/how to mount it……. Possibly large washers backside in through the plastic itself ( access holes for d rings forward and aft). Wander if it will hold well enough…….. pretty durable material. Anyone else have this issue? How’d you deal with it? I’m all ears to any potential solutions….. thanks guys…..
Great Build! You had some great ideas that helped me with mine! Was wondering since the weight (maybe 60-70lbs loaded?) is fully supported by the factory rail system, have you experienced any bending or warping to the rail? Thanks for the vid!
LetMeAskMyDog thanks for watching. The weight of the tank is resting on the wheel well , the brackets and rubber straps are just holding it tight in place. Have fun building...👍👍
best one ive seen yet
Thank you so much!!!😁
Safer to add a stand pipe along pipe to compress air. If completely full off water you'll have hydraulic issues. Air compressors do not compress water. Unless you make a air pocket by lowering level a little.
I’m new to this, could you explain how this works? Will a standpipe create an air pocket?
Yes sir!
@@matt89447thinking about making something like this also. Have no idea what a stand pipe is though. Can you explain a little more please?
Great Video! Can you give us the list and size of materials needed? links would help too. Thank you so much.
Thank you... There is a list of a few ideas in the description as for the PVC pipe we used 6" x 6' long, but can use whatever works for you. It's been a while since the build so if you any questions a long the way email me themuzshop@gmail.com.
quick and simple. 😎
Thanks for watching 👍🏻👍🏻
Love it Muz! Can you add a solar heating component for warm camping showers?
Rob Cooper actually being black it get pretty warm on a warm day. Thanks Coop.
awesome!
Thanks!
How long will the full tank last while pressurized. Like if you held the hose on how long before it loses pressure?
Hey Muz. Mad skills. I'm curious why a 45 on the INSIDE of the one end? I think on same side as shrader valve. Thx.
Ya I'm not sure why we put that 45 in, but we ended up replacing it after testing the tank. That 45 stoped us from filling the tank to capacity . So we replaced it with a straight piece and a new valve.. Notice at the end of the video you see a new value. Thanks for watching and commenting. 👍👍
G'day really like the idea, wondering you have tried to see how much pressure it can take as in when pumping air in or with water + air does it need some sort of pressure release valve for when it heats and expands? Thinking about making one or two for camping
Jeffrey Webster I think we would always fill it to 30psi and that worked fine. We never pushed it any higher. But since the video I believe my son put on a pressure release valve. Thanks for watching.
@@TheMuzShop Cool, thanks for replying also did your or son have to top up air when water got lower or didn't really make much difference?
Jeffrey Webster you could add some air if you want to have the water force higher, but for what he is using it for there was no need. It was made basically to rinse waders and tools off.
Good morning ,
I love how you made this water Thingy ! I want to make a couple of them myself! Do you have a list of what parts you used and what sizes they are? I have all the tools to make it but looking at your video I'm not sure of the sizes and names of the PVC you used. I want to order on line everything but not sure of names and sizes of everything I'm looking at in your video. Thank you I have looked at some others and yours looks the way for me to go ! Thanks Jan
Realize this is 3 years ago, but did you ever figure this out? I want to go get the pieces tomorrow and have no idea where to start. Won’t think Home Depot has these….
Sweet 👊🏻
Thanks 👊🏻
Love the video bro, what type of epoxy is that and where can you get it. Also you s it a 1 part or 2 part?
Thank you! It's a putty that you cut off a piece and knead it and it's ready to go....Here's a link to the one we used- amzn.to/2H2nQrk
Thanks again👍👍
Word to the wise...there is 6" PVC that is meant for pressurized applications (typically up to 180 PSI) and there is PVC that is only meant for gravity flow. Buy the former for this kind of project. My only concern is hanging the 50-60 pounds of weight (when full) on the side of a vehicle roof rack...I'd be using a stainless clevis hanger mounted sideways.
Amazing video! Short and sweet. Can I install the fill port and the faucet on the same side or should they both be on separate sides? Does it make a difference?
Thanks!
Thank you. 👍👍 I don’t see any reason it would make a difference as long as the tank is close to level so you can fill it to the top, but that’s important either way. Have a fun build.
About to build one for my camper truck, thanks for the vid. Update after these years? Do you still use it?
Thank for watching. My son has it and he still uses it on camping trips. 👍👍
Well this is a highly underrated video. Thank you so much for showing this. What's the diameter of the pipe?
Thank you for the kind words and support. The pipe we used was 6” in diameter.
This is amazing!!!! Thanks for sharing, I will be constructing one of these soon!! I have a 2018 Tacoma, I would pay you for to make some brackets =)
Thanks and glad you're going to make one. Try to see if you can make or get a bracket of so sort. Email me if you have problems....
85577alarm we used 6” pvc pipe.
@@TheMuzShop I do not have access to the tools to construct such brackets, I took this idea to a local fab shop, showed them the video and discussed making them. The guy was going to charge $300 to make these brackets!!
Liberty1776 $300 for to piece of metal.... that’s crazy. I’ll do it for $295. 😳😂😂joking ! Email me and we’ll figure something out, no worries. TheMuzShop@gmail.com
You might be able to use a bracket the use a superstrut bracket. They make pipe hangers for that .
What's the blue stuff called you.put on the metal to make your scores and measurements?
Thanks for watching, you can get this in red too.

Genius.........
Thanks 👍🏻👍🏻
What kind of rack sits on your truck?
Hey, I'm a newbie to this and am going to make an overlanding rig on a budget! I have an air compressor at home but I don't have one to keep in the vehicle. If I pressuerised the tank how long would it keep the pressure?
Thanks
Technically . . . forever. Unless you use the water and de-pressurize it OR if it leaks
Would you be kind enough to provide a list of parts
Where did you find the fittings with the length you have? I can only seem to find very short fittings
Hardware store or mc master car.
Hi Sir, could you explain why to use putty intead of pvc glue for the whole project?. Have a Taco and want to make two tanks
Hi, we used putty on parts that were not tight like a factory fit. PVC glue only works good if the it’s a nice tight fit. Also not with metal, like the stem valve
@@TheMuzShop True that, makes total sense. Thank you
gioquin83 thanks for watching.
Nice video........what was the putty you used to seal the joints?
Thanks and the putty( amzn.to/2H2nQrk) in the description along with other products used....
Impressive! What is the water capacity?
Alisa Banda it holds close to 8 gals.
What are you sealing the air valve stem with and other pvc attachments?
Jb Weld plastic. I’ve only used plumber cement.
Two thumbs up
👍👍 back at ya....
How much for the rail mounts ?
Where did you purchase the adjustable rubber straps?? And what size PVC pipe did you use?? Any information will help thanks in advace
We used a 6" pipe and about 5' long. The rubber straps I got on Amazon there is a link to those along with other build items used in the video listed in the description below the video . Click on "show more"
Thanks for watching
I'd love to get those rubber adjustable straps you used. Where can I get those?
There are links to most of the things used in the video below in the description. Thanks for watching. 👍🏻👍🏻
Is the water drinkable as well? or did the items you use make it not drinkable water? This would be great to take up to the mountains for a camping trip.
The only idea used in question would be the putty epoxy . But if you were to make one look it up or replace it with something else. Thanks for watching.
When did you start welding? Impressive display of various skills.
Alisa Banda I’ve been taking welding classes at Laney JC. Do much fun.
Way to keep growing your skills!
Alisa Banda your support really means a lot. Thanks Thistle 😘
Where did you get the rubber mounting straps? What are they called?
Eric Satterthwaite Thanks for watching, here’s the info....Super Quick Fist Clamp for mounting tools & equipment 2-1/2" - 9-1/2" diameter
www.amazon.com/dp/B007HOG4DE/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_c_api_uHQKBb9XX7WSQ
can water come up through the valve and into your air compressor?
No, its a value like you have on your car tire, we haven't had a problem like that yet...
Hi - What was the PSI rating for the PVC that you've used? Looks like it's a 6" PVC..
Yes it is a 6" pipe...Don't no the rating but we have had it up to 55psi....
Good set up. What are the steel bracket measurements ?
Thanks I'm glad you like it. I don't remember the exact measurement but it looks like 4 x 8 x 1 1/2 inchs but whatever works for your set up is what you should do....
@@TheMuzShop ok thanks...same truck short bed...
Great video! how much PSI can that hold? thanks :)
Thanks and we put in 40psi never tried to max it out...
Where did you get the rubber straps? Technical name???
Thanks for watching .. Here is a amazon link to the type of strap. Check it out they come in all different styles and sizes.....www.amazon.com/Quick-Fist-Super-mounting-equipment/dp/B007HOG4DE/ref=sr_1_4?crid=3A4E9UU7HSK74&keywords=quick+fist+rubber+clamps&qid=1555450529&s=gateway&sprefix=quick+fist%2Caps%2C511&sr=8-4
The 6inch pvc pipes I just looked at say "no pressure " on them, so I didn't buy one. Should I just look passed that and use it anyway?, I mean 30 to 40 psi doesn't seem like much pressure at all.
Ya it has worded find for us......👍👍
Did you get the pvc pieces at lowes/Home Depot or a pluming store? Having a hard time finding a few too copy your build.
Home Depot. There is a few links below the video in the description to help find a few parts. Thanks and have a fun build. 👍👍
Can you use it for automatic washing machine (7kg)?
YOUSUF GOLLE thanks for watching. Not sure about the washing machine question???
Just went to Home Depot and then a Ferguson’s to make one of these. They warned me to not make one because the threaded fittings will not hold the pressure over time. Did anyone find alternatives? Looking to make one out of 3 inch pvc.
I’m pretty sure my son doesn’t keep it under pressure all the time. If you have that pump just fill it with air when needed.
He’s had no problems with his.
Thanks for watching. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I want this for after-ocean adventures, but I wanna put it under my truck / hidden.
Nice !! There is a video out there that the guy uses his hollow bumper for the tank.... happy building .
I like it where it's behind the bed so the sun can hit it so when you come out from a day of Surfing or swimming it's nice and warm
@@mavila31033 Totally! I don't think I'll have an issue with warmth in Florida haha, but that Pacific ocean is FURREEEEZZIINNNGG.
What size PVC was the main pipe made out of?
We used 6" pipe and made it 5' long. It holds about 7 1/2 gals. Thanks for watching.
It's been a long time since you uploaded the video haha, but want to ask if you have a link for the hose? I cant find a thin hose like that with the connector for the valve. Great video!
Thanks and here is a link to the water hose amzn.to/3EbX1gB 👍👍👍👍
@@TheMuzShop thanksnfor the reply!
@@patricioelosua5886 there are few more items listed in the description below the video 👍🏻
sweet saw what brand is it?
The Metal cutting bandsaw is a Wen. It is relatively inexpensive but it got good reviews and it's been a work horse for me. No complaints, great for the hobbyist metal worker .... Here's a link.

Thanks for watching
Is the tank full of water or did you fill it like about 80 to 90% of water, then filled it with air? And have you tried increasing the psi above 30?
Probably filling about 90% and my son took it up to 40 a few time , worked well....
@@TheMuzShop cool, thanks! I'll take note of that
What size is the main pvc pipe that holds the water?
Sancho Manzano we used 6” pipe and it was 5’ long. Thanks for watching. 👍
How many psi does it crank up to?
Max psi for pump?
Max psi for pipe?
And how long does the water last at full power?
the pump goes to 70lbs as for the pipe not sure the max but we've pushed it to 40lbs and it was fine.... Its stays powerful longer than you would think, not sure time wise... thanks for watching.
@@TheMuzShop thank you man! Nice build!
Could just do a sealed system and let the city water pressurize the tank. Normally around 80psi and the air that was in the tank will compress and become propellant
Cool!!
Why use the putty and not just pvc cement/epoxy?
thanks for watching. The putty was used on the metal air value and any other part that I had to drill the hole cause they were not a factory fit or a perfect fix, to fill in the gaps.....
Any trouble with it freezing/using in winter?
Good Question. We are in Ca. so there hasn't been a problem but I would think there would be if you had the tank full and the weather was below freezing long enough......🥶
Why did you using a table saw to cut the pipe make me tense?
Russ no reason , it seemed like the quickest and easiest at the time. Worked out ok , I wouldn’t recommend it... thanks for watching.
How much for you to make that exact setup for my Tacoma with the brackets? I’m serious I will pay for this
Thanks for watching and wanting one of these , but by the time I make it, with material , labor and shipping you are better off just buying The Road Shower amzn.to/3dl7biW
I think.
How long does it have decent pressure for if pressing trigger continously? I done similar but with a water pump and used my rear bumper as the water tank on a wrangler.. Have a different vehicle now that bumper won't hold water so looking to do the same..
It actually pumps water for a surprising long time, ( never timed it) but with this set up you could quickly pump more air in the tank when the water pressure weakens and until you run out of water. Hope that helps and thanks for watching. If you need to know a more accurate time, I could ask my son. Let me know... Muz
Where did you buy that straps?
Thanks for watching .. Here is a amazon link to the type of strap. Check it out they come in all different styles and sizes.....www.amazon.com/Quick-Fist-Super-mounting-equipment/dp/B007HOG4DE/ref=sr_1_4?crid=3A4E9UU7HSK74&keywords=quick+fist+rubber+clamps&qid=1555450529&s=gateway&sprefix=quick+fist%2Caps%2C511&sr=8-4
Why did you make that elbow piece on the inside?
Good catch! We actually changed it out to a straight piece after, cause it was not allowing us to fill the tank all the way. thanks for watching.
@@TheMuzShop o I wasn't being facetious. I literally wss asking your reasoning for the elbow. I good I can take from your response that it didn't work well bit either way what was your original reason for it. Honestly curious. Thanks
@@freepilot7732 Thinking back I really don't think there was a real reason for the elbow. We needed something to go through the wall to hook up the intake value and that was all we had...
Can you add a PSI gauge to this?
I done see why not as long as it’s airtight. Thanks for watching 👍👍
What schedule PVC did you use?
Schedule 40. Thanks for watching 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Fancy
Cheap Charley thank you it works pretty good!!
Can you post a list of what you used?
Here is a list of what we used but you change things up to fit your needs ....
Thanks for watching and I hope this helps
1- 6” schedule 35 pvc pipe about 5’ long
2- 6” end caps
1- valve stem
1- ¾ “ water spikette
1-¾ “ threaded fitting for the spikette
1- 1 ¼ “ water shut off valve
1- 1 ¼ 90 degree
PVC primer and cement

The Muz Shop thanks, I will be trying out this diy for my off roading adventures. Really neat
@@TheMuzShop Thank you very much and I will build this today!
Hermanus Smit Cool. Email me some pic when you’re finished. 👍👍
How do you keep it pressurised ?
try is a little electric air pump as shown in the video. When the pressure runs low just put more air in it....
Ahh yes. I was thinking it would be great to automatically pressurize it.
What psi did you use?
About 35 psi. Thanks for watching 👍👍👍
Why are you using white pipe and painted it black instead of tissues in the black pipe what am I missing
Good point .... I'm not sure.
How long is it?
It was about 5’ 6”. But make it the length that fits where you will be mounting it. Thanks for watching 👍🏻👍🏻
what air compressor did you use
Caleb Baer thanks for watching. We used Goodyear i8000 120-Volt Direct Drive Tire Inflator www.amazon.com/dp/B003XGYDE2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_H.VZBbJZF4JW0 and we are happy with it...
how much did you pay for the 6 in pvc pipe? finding alot of different pricings but the lower ones dont seem to be in stock around me.@@TheMuzShop
Caleb Baer sorry I really don’t remember...got it a Home depot.
Can I use a bicycle air pump?
Do you get paid by how much you blue the work?
Too much?😂😂
The fatal flaw in your design is the Use of epoxy.
In a water environment it is not going to hold up to vibration, swelling & contraction (barometric pressure) & will eventually crack & fail.
You should’ve used some type of threaded O-ring pinch seal arrangement.
As an engineer, you need to think long term...
Where did you find that valve stem
in the description below there is a part list and links.....Thanks for watching
I buy mine at the auto store
Why not use the water pressure in the hose to charge the system? That way you don't have to use an air compressor.
hi Muz
what is the size drill bits used? why you make the curve to the water intake?
We actually ended up replacing that 90 with a straight one .....Use a drill bit as close to the size you need for a tight fit...
