Podunk is the winner
Your home made mat looked flatter than the wool one. I think I’ll be making my own too. Thanks for sharing great video!
I love the way you make your boards. I will be making mine by your example.
Well until now I loved my wool mat. I even like the smell. But your board was a flatter block beyond any doubt. On my way to find a board because it makes sense. 👍
Great tutorial! Point made! Let's make our own pressing board(s)! THANK YOU!🫶
My daughter made me a huge plywood ironing board, covered with thick batting she stapled on the back as well as fabric over it. LOVE it.
What a difference!!
What a sweetheart!
your one wins by a mile. I am so glad because I cannot justify buying a wool mat, Thank you. I was thinking of making one with a tie string so as not to have to take out the staples when I want to wash it as my hands are getting useless and weak, I
I love that you did "the big challenge". Oh! My! Goodness! Great!
I warped my cutting mat having the wool pressing mat on top aand ironing. Definitely going to make a pressing board now.
I’ve been thinking about making my own. I think I’ll give it a try.
I've taken the cover off my regular ironing board and put foil on it to keep it from rusting and help with reflecting heat back up
I just made two small pressing boards. Now I'm going to go and take them apart and put some foil on them. That was a great tip. Thanks for sharing
Glad I could help! It really does help You'll be amazed. I rarely need steam.
I like the Podunk. Now about the fabrics you hand washed, the two that's not so bright, sew a bunch of scraps on it for a crumb block.
Just what I needed! I have my boards and materials and can’t wait to make some of these!!! Thanks!
Hey Girl... I am basically binge watching your channel right now while I am cutting fabric for my next two quilts. I'll be adding tutorials to this page weekly. I started sewing as soon as I could hold a needle and thread when I was little... lol!
Thank you for a great tutorial. Love your "wack a mole"😂
Thank you for this tutorial. I bought a 14x14 wool mat when I started quilting a couple years ago. I'm allergic to wool, but I thought just ironing on it would be ok... Nope, allergic to it also, can't use it. Your board will work well.
Love your mat! I made one a few years ago but didn’t add the foil. What a great idea!! Think I’m going to make another using your instructions!! Thanks so much!
Thank you, I missed your videos. Even if I have watched them before, sometimes I like to watch again. your cat blocks are wonderful. Thank you
Thank you, I learned a lot.
Most of all to get the right stapler, lol
wow😮
Love the homemade pressing mat! I was wondering how I was going to get some of the had to remove staples out! Thanks!
Thank you. I'll be making me one. 😊
I bought a 12" square wool mat that I've been using to contain my hand-work on! I do love it that I can poke pins and needles into it, it is light and things don't roll off of it. I tried pressing on it but I had it on top of my big cutting mat and it now is a bit more warped. Sad! Years ago, I made a pressing mat with a couple of old wool army blankets over plywood. I loved it - but then got a steam press and its dresser was my only choice for a place to put it. I ended up giving the plywood setup to one of my daughters who has redone it at least once since. I kind of regret loosing the old blankets! Those were ugly but so lovely! Now I use a stair tread that was replaced. I wrap it with a towel and it works well but is heavy. I've actually gotten out my ironing board, but it becomes another working surface! Small room with way too much inside. When I'm stitching a lot, I use an old mini ironing board that fits over the top drawer in my sewing table and I have a little travel iron. New subbie, by the way!
Excellent tutorial. I've covered a variety of boards the same way. The heavy-duty foil is definitely important.
They are so handy and yes the foil makes all the difference.
Thank you for your tutorial. I just found it. I am going to try making it as I just moved to a small apt. Also love the quilt on your wall. Could you share the name of the pattern and where I might be able to purchase it. Many thanks!!!!
It was a quilt I designed, no pattern. Thanks for watching.
Thank you
Thank you so much for sharing !!😊
I have considered making my own pressing boards. I am so happy and thankful to you. Your video will have saved me tons of time and materials. Your video gave me insights on the material and batting, and aluminum foil..thank you
Going to use this to make a pressing mat for my sewing room! I have a wool mat but not thrilled with it...Thank you!
Wow..😮
PURE AWESOMENESS!!🎉❤🎉
I have covered a kitchen cutting board and those wooden TV trays with legs.
I used to have one of those too. They work great and fold away when you need the space.
This is great! Thanks so much for sharing! ❤️
Thank you for stopping by my little spot in Podunk!
Thank you for the tips! Love your pressing mat and your design board video too! I’ve subscribed. 👏👏
You're welcome! Thanks for subbing!
I have made a huge mat myself. I have never used aluminum foil. I will definitely try that.
You're going to love the difference the foil makes.
Thank you for your video. It has been very informative
Thanks!
What type of material is the white layer of fabric you add before final layer?
Love your videos.
What kind of iron are you using?
Please..how long does it take to tell us how to make it..not being rude..just anxious..thanx..🇨🇦
I have some spare table protector material could this be used as a layer and if so which layer should I add it?
Can I used wrap - zap cotton batting
I have some spare table protector would this be ok to use under the foil?
Wouldn't a cutting board be good to use for the base?
The heat from the iron would warp the cutting mat.
@@podunkpretties I was referring to using a wooden cutting board meant for kitchen use.
🤠
@@lynnbellamy2895 LOL! That would work!
Sometimes when you use partial strips of Staples, it will malfunction....🤠
My stapler behaves badly with more staples. It has a crimp in it somewhere.
@@podunkpretties don't put pieces of staples in stapler. Use only complete strips.
@@lynnbellamy2895 I wish I could. I put a full strip in it and I had to dig them out. I cut that part out of the video. I need to buy a new stapler but it's not on the top of my list of quilting things to buy.😁
I agree the wool mat stinks lol
Yes, some worse than others. They say over time the smell fades. They smell like a dirty cattle barn to me.
You used 1 part ammonia to 7 parts of hot water, why ammonia and not bleach?
Great question, thanks for asking. Ammonia will loosen and remove the scorched starch without dulling or fading the printed fabric. If the fabric is still stained it means the fabric is burned. Then bleach could be used to help reduce the burn stain on the fabric. I rarely need to use bleach on my pressing board covers. But a couple of these white fabrics could use a good dose of bleach.

None of those staplers work. I have 3 different brands
