  • Welcome to the new “Weasel’s Tool Corner” episode!
    Today I want to show you a little overview of my “Hammer C3 31” combination machine, it’s a really nice machine for an affordable price, it is a very precise machine and quite rigid. As mentioned on the video, the Felder machines are more “high tech” but also more pricey, so if you want just a machine that cuts straight and offers nice plainer results, the Hammer is the way to go for you. ;)

    To adjust shaper cut depth, a magnetic straight edge can be shimmed, and also cut sample profile samples may be saved and butted up against fence and cutter.

    Great video Martin. If I had to rebuild my shop tomorrow I'd get a Hammer. I enjoyed your detailed tour around the machine.

      Hi Penny
      Thank you, I really enjoy working with this machine, it's definitely a very good mid tier machine and worth the money! ;)

    Thank you Martin for a really clear review of the C3 31 comfort.
    I am now in a position to be able to have one in my workshop.
    Would you recommend any particular accessories for the C3 31 please.
    There is nothing wrong with your English it’s clear to me 😊

    Nice overview Martin. And I completely agree. We recently got a C3 31 and I love it's quality and accuracy but still haven't even used the Spindle Moulder/Shaper as the fence is clumsy and extremely heavy and just doesn't seem... Right. And the rip fence is something else that is just not up to scratch. I have the micro adjuster part for it which is definitely necessary to make up for the non accurate fence locking system

    • @WeaselWood
      @WeaselWood  7 лет назад

      Hi Smoky
      I thought I would be the only one who feels so that the shaper fence is'nt the best on the planet. For the rip fence, do you have the same as I have on my machine or the proper "just" rip fence with the lever lock, I always thought that the lever one would be better!?!
      Greetings Martin

    Great review, thank you...I'm interested in your thoughts about the quality of this Hammer compared to its cousin the Felder brand. Quality in terms of accuracy and repeatability, and the fit and finish. Do you think it's worth paying the extra for something like the CF 531P? Or will this Hammer get you almost the same results?

    Hi Martin! Thanks for the video. I've just placed a C3 in my lab. I need to adjust the sliding table as i found a 1mm vertical offset against the saw plane. Have u any instruction or video about the correct setting procedure??.... many thanks in advance. I wish to share some info with other guys with this great machine

      May I ask what they are going for? I was on their website and their are so secretive with their pricing. I was shopping for jointer/planner. Without giving my personal information, I was just wanting to known what the pricing are on the Hammer c3 31 and or just the hammer planner jointer.

    Thanks for the beautiful explanations
    I would like to know how long the saw arrives from the time of the order?

    Ich möchte mir eventuell so eine Maschine zulegen. Ich habe eine etwas grob betonierte Werkstatt. Wie gut denkst du muss der Boden niveliert sein, ohne dass sich die Maschine durch geringe Unebenheiten verzieht und dadurch eigentlich unbrauchbar wird für exaktes Arbeiten?

    is that a Festool pillar drill beside the Kapex. If so they are not available in the UK

      Hi Greg
      You are the first who mentioned it in a comment. No thats an about 30 year old drill press from Sharp, I just "borrowed" the color theme as I restored the machine about 2 years ago! ;)

    Hi, tolles und sehr informatives Video. Möchte mir ebenfalls die C3 mit dem Comfortpaket bestellen. Dein Video hat meine Kaufentscheidung bestätigt. Preis-/Leistungsverhältnis ist bei den Hammer-Maschinen für den Hobbybereich noch „erträglich“. Eine vergleichbare Felder kostet doch deutlich mehr.

      Hi James
      I do not know the X31, is this a machine from Hammer?

  • @WelshRabbit
    @WelshRabbit 7 лет назад +1

    Other than costing more money, can you think of any quality or performance improvements offered by the Felder 500 series machines over your Hammer C3 31? Thanks to Frank Klausz's video, I've been seriously thinking of getting either the Felder 500 or 700 series combo, but it looks to me like your Hammer model would be just fine and save me some money. It looks like you have a good size shop area. What are its dimensions? By the way, I think your English is fine.

    • @WeaselWood
      @WeaselWood  7 лет назад +1

      Hi Welsh.
      I think for a hobbyist the Hammer C3 is mostly sufficient. The Felder is definitelly the better machine, more cast iron parts instead of sheat metal parts, also more options to choose.
      So the Hammer is more a working machine that gets the job done, the Felder is the state of the art machine, and there ist the difference in price.
      If I had extra money handy at time, I would have bought the Felder, but the Hammer is a very nice machine anyway.

    So damn jealous of the fact German households have 3 phase. The UK are not so forward-thinking and it costs many thousands, sometimes upwards of £20k to install it.

    hello, great video. I am in the market for a euro combination machine, your video was much more informative than those made by the manufacturer. just made my choice harder. thank you.

    • @WeaselWood

      Hi ivan
      The manufacturer just want to sell their stuff, always hard to rely on marketing videos. You will find a machine that fits your purpose, I'm sure.

      @@WeaselWood did you manage to get the table saw dedicated rip fence you mentioned, do you have flex issue with it?

  • @davdc12
    @davdc12 7 лет назад +2

    hello martin. do you experience any deflection on the rip fence? and if so how bad is it? i consider buying a c3 31, and heard that the rip fence isn't great. except of beeing bulky, that you mentioned, do you find it satisfying? thanks for the video, and great channel also

    • @WeaselWood
      @WeaselWood  7 лет назад +3

      Hi davdc
      The rip fence which comes with the machine is'nt that bad in therms of accuracy, but i would recommend you to buy the proper rip fence that is available as an accessorie for the machine (at.feldershop.com/en/Sawing/Accessories/Fence-accessories/HAMMER-Circular-saw-rip-fence.html). I want to bye this for myself, it's way better and more useable as the standard one, that also works as a fence for the plainer. ;)

    Nice review Martin. I used to have a Felder CF741 but sold it about 10 years ago to go with separates. The Felder machines are a significant upgrade to Hammer and their X-roll is second to none but I agree, the Hammer is a very good value. Homes in the US are typically single phase 240VAC so to go 3 phase, we use converters. I think the shaper fence you have would drive me nuts as it doesn't look very easy to set up. I highly recommend building your own Fritz and Franz jig for your slider. It took me 12 years to make one and I wonder why I didn't do it sooner. This is a link to the version I built; ruclips.net/video/Q0PyFjtSHrE/видео.html

      I thought about buying seperate machines but because of a lack of space, combination machine it is, maybe one of those days I'll upgrade to an Felder. Your jigs look really nice, I already had some ideas in mind to build me something similar myself, thank you for sharing! ;)

      Hi Steve I plan to buy felder with 3 phase machine and the electricity in my house is single phase as well. Do you think is it safe in a long term for the machine if I use converter from 1P to 3P? Thanks in advance

    Sorry aber ich seh es erst jetzt
    Bitte mach den Fräskörper nicht ganz oben an dem Dorn das ist das dümmste was man machen kann
    Immer den Fräskörper ganz unten einspannen bzw einen Zwischenring dazwischen sonst fliegt dir der Fräser um die ohren
