Exactly right. If you want to boil the numbers down even further, about 160% modifier is where things start to change and skill power becomes more valuable, but you can definitely go up to 200% modifier without experiencing diminishing returns.
So i started no so long ago but from what i seen (haven't actually done any reaserch) if it says "MODIFIER" is ADDED to the base dmg stat so no actually have any diminishing returns is just that the other seems better in the long run because the one that DON'T SAY "MODIFIER" is adding the multiolicate of %# times the Base dmg stat. Ej. 50% skill powe "MODIFIER" plus 10 base stat is the 60% you got so is not that it got 6 times dmg per se is just that it got added a flat 50 dmg to the base dmg stat. But if you have a Skill power of 100% (No "Modifier") of a 10% skill you just get the 100%(or 1.00 in % numbers) x 10 = 10 added to the 10% base stat so a 20 total base dmg stat. I might be wrong but that is what i saw and how i understood. Basically low skill dmg base stat the mods with "modifier" are more important and high skill base stat skill power (NO MODIFIER) is better. Either way you alway use one the differnce is in spear and shield and iron def. Sorry for my bad english btw lol

Thank god someone made a video on this, I argued this with 2 brain dead people in a different video and it’s like they didn’t take basic math in school and tried to argue with someone with a math degree, like common sense and being able to read goes a LONG way in life. Great video!
@@RealAsianRobot I personally put the link in the comment thread with those two people and told them if they still didn’t believe me to watch your video. You supported my argument to a T.
As someone who's already a bit of a numbers nerd, a lot of the math for this and how they chose to run the damage calculations actually makes a lot of sense to me and seems straightforward. However, I can see how this could be a stumblingblock for some people. In short, there's a base value the game uses for how much "punch" your abilities do. However, it wouldn't make sense for every aspect of every ability in your arsenal to deal the same amount of damage. A one-hit ability should probably deal more damage on that hit than a whole lot of little hits from a DoT. Therefore, the power level needs to be "modified" to better balance with the reat of the kit, most easily done by multiplying that base power level by a percentage. From the example used in the video, both the initial hit of the dart and the subsequent ticks use the same value of skill power in the math. However, that dart impact is multiplied by a high percentage power, and than th DoT ticks use a small percentage value to figure out how potent they should be. That percentage is the power modifier, and it's different for every ability. As given in the video, there is no one size fits all answer. You need to take a step back and understand a little of how the abilities work and how the game calculates the damage in order to choose what part of the equation you need to pump up.

Quick note: you can only have one mod per "mod group." So Technician and Focus on Tech are both "Attack" group. It's not *exactly* the stats the mods provide, it's their category. Blue mods don't have a group so you can stack those with their purple counterparts.
Thanks for clearing the difference up. I thought that Technician was useless but now seeing what the skill power modifier does, it's not so useless but still better to put those points into dimension, singular, tech, and fusion instead which I was planning to do. Now it's making sense. 👍
It depends on the skill. DoT have low modifiers so you must first boost the modifier. Direct damage (like Lepic's grenade etc.) Has high modifier, so you need to boost the skill power itself 😁👍. Hope this helps

one thing you didn't mention is if you wanna see what your skill power is at you can see that on the inventory menu with the diamond icon, or by pressing W on PC to see overall info... that other than just the modifier percentages being low can help you see and decide by being able to "math" the differences yourself if you feel so inclined to. good video though for sure! i know a lot of people needed this.
I have a whole spreadsheet on this. One mod you didn’t explore was skill simplification. Thank me later. Use that with your element master mod and you will hit harder and DoT’s will be stronger.
Awsome video and using vial actually numbers in the test lab makes it very clear to see why and how those mods do certian things and how they effect dmg. Awsome job ❤❤
@@dredgen0268 for Freyna since her room 0 trauma is low you want to bring up her skill power modifier. And 0 trauma is tech so bring up tech. Once tech is up that's when toxic increase becomes viable.
@@ExiledTraitor yea ive tried this perfectly and her dots are still just subpar at best the max it can hit is 189k and thats only if u use her 4th skill and have cantagion card equipped the rest of her dots can barely hit an 80k crit barely its just so sad such a cool character and its basically pointless to build anything but ur 4th skill lol nexon makes me cry
That is correct as per the video. The idea is to have some way of raising her skill power modifier for DoTs up so that her overall damage improves. Power Modifier is necessary for this if you are going for farming build. For bossing build you just go for raw power
DOTs tend to take what ever the base power level is and mutiply it by a really small percentage, since the idea is a bunch of little hit that add up instead of one singular one. If that percentage is real low, increasing that would do more for that particular application than the base skill power. For example: 1% of 1000 is 10 (1000 times .01 is 10). If you want 20, you either need to increase the base value by 100%/double it to get 2000 times .01 to get 20, which can be costly in mods, or you increase the modifier from 10% to 20% to get 1000 * 20% to get the same 20 value. On the other hand, 1000 times a modifier of 200% is 1000 *200%=2000. Increasing the base value by 20% would yield 1200 *200%=2400, whereas as increasing the modifier from 200% to 220% yields 1000*220%=2200. The amount it differs increaseas the further to the extremes you go.
The existence of a RealAsianRobot implies the existence of a potentially infinite number of FakeAsianRobots. The Real one is here and accounted for. The whereabouts of the Fake ones, however, are unknown, and that scares me. But seriously, thank you for a clear explanation on this stuff. Why they can't just have this kind of explanation in the actual game I will never understand.
No worries. Always happy to help 😁👍. And yeaaaah, the in-game stuff can be a bit convoluted at times, but that's why official content creators like me exist lol. We are supposed to demystify things
Focus on Tech gives Skill Power Modifier (for DoTs). Focus on Toxic gives Skill Power. When to use either one is the crucial key. So you must know the difference between Skill Power and Skill Power Modifier Hence why I explained the principle of diminishing returns for Skill Power Modifier in the vid
I always just relate them to crit rate and crit damage. ones the base value the others the multiplier edit: that being said crit rate in this game isn't like in most games, there is a base and then the values applied after are then multiplied by the base number.. this would be a good video too! we need it!
So, the math of crit damage vs crit rate looks like it's not at all the same as skill power and skill power modifier. Crit damage is how hard a crit hits. Crit rate is how often it hits. Skill power and skill power modifier look like it works differently. Skill power is a base value in the calculation. Like a power rating. However, that base value is multiplied by a ratio/fraction that is different for each ability to determine how powerful that ability is. Increasing the modifier increases how big the ratio/fraction is.
Basic summary: Build skill power. Fantastic video, very much appreciated.
Exactly right.
If you want to boil the numbers down even further, about 160% modifier is where things start to change and skill power becomes more valuable, but you can definitely go up to 200% modifier without experiencing diminishing returns.

@@ryanjohnson5737 I'm working on one for now, but my honest advice is to focus on her gunstyle (for now)
one thing you didn't mention is if you wanna see what your skill power is at you can see that on the inventory menu with the diamond icon, or by pressing W on PC to see overall info... that other than just the modifier percentages being low can help you see and decide by being able to "math" the differences yourself if you feel so inclined to. good video though for sure! i know a lot of people needed this.
This is covered in a different video. But you are correct 😁
I have a whole spreadsheet on this. One mod you didn’t explore was skill simplification. Thank me later. Use that with your element master mod and you will hit harder and DoT’s will be stronger.
@@iNuvo1892 he's Asian,if there was math involved he'd have covered it ...😜😂
Can you share this spreadsheet?
@@antonioholness3859 ^^^^ this please
Can I get the spread sheet pls
Base on my damage testing I have found that Tech specialist with Tech master gives me the best on-hit damage and the best dot damage.
Bro explained like it’s his scientific discovery that will benefit the humanity 😂, but it’s a great info thank you
@@NOBODYxx09 Well, you can always choose to watch other explanations and walk away confused ;).
@@RealAsianRobot nope, you are the GOAT 🫶
Awsome video and using vial actually numbers in the test lab makes it very clear to see why and how those mods do certian things and how they effect dmg. Awsome job ❤❤
You know it bud haha
Excellent work
Thanks for the video
You're welcome. Always happy to help the community!
just registered you as nexon creator
Thanks my guy. I appreciate it!
So for DOTs you want power modifier? And then for just regular skills, you want pure skill power?
Or is that way off base
For example:
1% of 1000 is 10 (1000 times .01 is 10).
Thanks for explaining
Always happy to help
Thank you cause Frey Frey is my favorite character
Happy to hear it!
I feel like you understand this better than Nexon does 😂
Thanks for the explanation bro, everything clicked instantly the way you explained it.
No worries. I am more than happy to help and explain things to people 😁👍. It's why they made me an official creator haha
I gotta sub.
Thanks for subbing :)
Thanks for the explanation this helps a lot.
No worries
Thanks for the vid. This info is much appreciated. I have a question though... Why Focus on Tech over say a Focus on Toxic?
Focus on Tech gives Skill Power Modifier (for DoTs). Focus on Toxic gives Skill Power.
When to use either one is the crucial key. So you must know the difference between Skill Power and Skill Power Modifier
Hence why I explained the principle of diminishing returns for Skill Power Modifier in the vid
I always just relate them to crit rate and crit damage. ones the base value the others the multiplier
edit: that being said crit rate in this game isn't like in most games, there is a base and then the values applied after are then multiplied by the base number.. this would be a good video too!
Increasing the modifier increases how big the ratio/fraction is.
subbed!🎉
