Avi left amicably and they searched for a replacement and found Matt who is a super nice man and outstanding singer. No other changes. Kirstin changes her hair color and styles, often with wigs, and Mitch changed his hairstyle and color frequently - but keep in mind they have been doing this for 13 years, so they literally have grown up. So the early videos have Avi but anything past 2017 has Matt.

I'm so glad I caught this fresh so hopefully I can get in my 2 cents worth b4 you read the comments. I wanted to suggest their cover of GOLD... But first, please watch the original by Kiara so you can see how they can take a techno mess and upgrade with their voices what she had to do with technology. And it's just them sitting on a couch with microphones. Also, check out Home Free's cover of END OF THE ROAD by Boyz 2 Men. And I have to agree...I think PTX is the BEST although I love Home Free too.

PTX has the best harmonies hands down. Kirstin and Mitch change their looks a lot, but it is always them. This video shows Kirstin’s natural hair color.
Recommend their cover of Can You Feel The Love Tonight.

Great reaction, K! Thanks for letting yourself become invested in PTX. They are the OG of the Acapella universe! Other acapella groups have followed them, but PTX blew up the biggest and still wears the crown! 👑 They have the deepest catalog of music: covers and originals, the most Grammy award 🏆wins and nominations, music videos with famous artists 🎤 like Dolly Parton, Jason Derillo, Toddrick Hall, and Whitney Houston, stars and co-stars of multiple TV show specials and movies 🎥, a gold star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame 😎, recognized as famous stars by the music industry as a whole, more sold-out live concerts and world tours than all the other acapella groups combined, plus they have one of the largest, world-wide 🌎🌍🌏 groups of loyal fans on the planet: the Pentaholics (those who can't get enough of them)! Let the other acapella groups top that.. 😅😊😁
As a long-time member of the Pentaholics, let me thank you for your interest in our group, Pentatonix. One of our members made a video overview/history several years ago called the Beginner's Guide to Pentatonix. It answers many of the common questions that people like yourself always ask about the group when they first become interested in them. I would highly recommend that you view and react to it soon. You won't be disappointed! 😉🏆👍🔥

Thanks for the reaction. If you get a chance you should definitely try to see them in person. They sell out concerts whether it is the Hollywood Bowl or Madison Square Garden. They did a Christmas concert in 2024. I’ve been to 4 of their concerts and thought this one was their best. Nothing has been announced yet for 2025. Kirstin is 8 months pregnant, so there won’t be any new concerts for a while.

Matt has been with the group since 2017 when Avi left PTX to have more family time and pursue a solo career. He already has a couple of albums to his credit, and his music is captivating! You should check out the following "older" PTX offerings (with Avi) - "Daft Punk Medley" (Grammy award); "Radioactive" - with Lindsey Sterling; "Wizard of Aaahs" - with Todrick Hall; "Run To You" - PTX Original; "Imagine" - moving!; "Say Something" - Introduced to Kevin's celloboxing; "90's Dance Medley"; "Jolene" - with Dolly Parton (Grammy Award). More recent winners (with Matt) are "Amazing Grace/My Chains Are Gone"; "Shallow"; "The Prayer"; ""Can You Feel the Love Tonight?"; "Mad World"; "Kiss From A Rose"; "Havana"; "When the Party's Over". So many more greats, but this list will keep you busy for awhile!

Yes, "the new black guy" is Matt Sallee, who replaced Avi Kaplan in 2017. (Avi left amicably for personal reasons.) Matt is a bass with an incredible range, as are the entire group. Their Vevo version of "Kiss from a Rose" displays his talent, as well as "O Holy Night", if you're up to a Christmas song in January. (We Pentaholics will listen to Christmas music from PTX all year!!) I would like to recommend their original song, "Sing", which was a tribute to their followers and has a few celebrities in it as well. Some fun rapping can be found in their cover of Macklemore and Lewis' "Can't Hold Us." There's a lot to see here! Enjoy!!

Pentatonix History…..composed by Alan Freeman updated by Perry Stevenson
They won The Sing Off in 2011. They made a guest starring appearance on America′s Got Talent as non−competitors a couple of years after that.
    The founding members are:-
    Scott Hoying (tall blond guy, natural baritone but has an impressive five−to−six octave range, can go all the way up to high tenor and down to bass, sings the bass lines when the usual bass singer takes the lead);
Kirstin "Kirstie" (Rhymes with "Thirsty") Maldonado (the only female member, natural mezzo soprano, but can go down to low alto and as high as upper soprano, also can sing in whistle notes that are off the scale); For a time in 2018 between the group’s tours, had the female lead on Broadway in the production of “Kinky Boots”.
    Mitch Grassi (a true contra−tenor, can hit high notes in his chest voice with ease and go WAY higher in his falsetto, also with ease);
Avriel "Avi" Kaplan (dark beard and long hair), true basso profundo, trained as an opera singer, also can go up into the tenor range; and
Kevin "KO" Olusola (beatboxer extraordinaire, also is a world−class cellist who plays cello on some of their songs, has a beautiful high tenor voice and gets occasional lead vocal solos as well, graduated pre−med from Yale and speaks several languages including Mandarin Chinese).
Kirstie, Scott & Mitch grew up together in Arlington, Texas, and began performing together as children in local youth musical theater. They ended up in high school together and performed in the choir. While there, they formed an a cappella group called The Trio which had several performance videos go viral on RUclips, most notably a cover of Lady Gaga′s "Telephone". The three of them are best friends and consider themselves to be almost siblings.
Scott & Kirstie (who were a class year ahead of Mitch) both graduated high school in 2010 and went their separate ways to different colleges, Scott at USC and Kirstie at Oklahoma.
While at USC, Scott joined a USC−based a cappella group called the SoCal VoCals, where he met alumnus Ben Bram, who was now an arranger and vocal coach for the NBC TV show The Sing Off, an a cappella competition show. Ben convinced Scott to get The Trio to audition for the show. The three reunited (Mitch had to skip high school graduation ceremonies to go) in Los Angeles for the audition.
They found out that the rules had changed, so they needed at least five members to audition. Ben put them together with Avi (a native of Visalia, California), who he knew from Avi′s performing days at Mount San Antonio College in California. They found Kevin (from Kentucky) through one of his RUclips videos that had gone viral featuring him playing the cello and beatboxing at the same time, a talent that Kevin coined as "Cello−Boxing".
Kevin arrived in Los Angeles literally the day before the audition! Scott came up with the name "Pentatonix" after the pentatonic scale. They performed a re−arrangement of "The Telephone" for the audition and passed, despite having been together as a five−piece group for less that 24 hours!
Oh, yes, the name. Pentatonix is named for the pentatonic scale, which has five (penta) tones just as Pentatonix has five (Penta) singers. In other words, it's a fancier way of saying they're now "The Quintet."
They won The Sing Off that season (all of the performances are available on RUclips), in which they received a substantial cash prize AND a record contract with Epic Records. They pooled their prize winnings together and all moved to Los Angeles, and all got apartments right next door to each other in the same building.
But just a week later, Epic dropped them because the marketing people didn′t think an acappella group could sell records.
Instead of giving up, they were determined and began recording their own songs on RUclips, hiring Ben Bram as their producer and arranger. These usually consisted of the five of them sitting on a couch and performing cover songs live.
Several of the videos went viral, and Sony (the parent company of Epic) decided to give them another chance by placing them on one of their smaller labels, Madison Gate. They released two secular EPs and one Christmas EP on Madison Gate, all of which were strong sellers.
But when their cover of a medley of songs by Daft Punk not only went super−viral, but also won them their first Grammy, they were promoted all the way up to RCA Records, Sony′s top label.
They began writing and producing their own songs in addition to their covers, began putting out a Christmas album just about annually (which has become their best−selling genre), and have had multi−platinum album sales, sold−out world tours, and have won two additional Grammys.
Avi began getting burned out with all of the touring and heavy recording schedule, was suffering from anxiety and personal problems, and learned that his mother had been diagnosed with cancer in 2017. He announced he was departing from the group and taking some time away from the music industry.
Matt Sallee (from Baltimore) joined them in September 2017. He did only become official when they renewed their RCA contract in February 2018, but he recorded with them in September as a featured artist and went on their Christmas tour as a featured artist, as well. When he attended the audition for the group, he had already mastered the Bass part for most if not all their past catalogue. He was successful and has proved that he fits in well with the group.
If you think there have been other changes to the line up - look again. This is the ONLY change. Kirstie and Mitch are like chameleons and change looks frequently.
After a year away from music, Avi has now returned as a phenomenal solo artist in the Folk/Americana/Roots genre.
Ben Bram has been in charge of their production, including arranging and directing from the beginning. He is often referred to as the sixth member. Scott and Kevin are major players in the arrangements, but every member contributes. good watch is "The Recording of Evergreen" where a camera was invited into the studio for the second week of recording/
Also, all members are songwriters for both Pentatonix and their own solo work.
Ed Boyer who mixes everything of theirs (even the HWB Livestream) is the one who pulled Ben Bram into the sing off in the first place.
    The 3 Grammys they’ve won include….
(1)Daft Punk for Best Arrangement, Instrumental or A Cappella……
(2)Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies for Best Arrangement, Instrumental or A Cappella….
    (3) Jolene w/Dolly Parton for Best Country Duo/Group Performance.
They were nominated for a 4th Grammy for their album “Evergreen” for Best Traditional Vocal Album.
They were also nominated for a 5th Grammy award for their album “Holidays Around The World” for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album.
They have a star on the Hollywood walk of fame installed in February 2023. THEY ARE THE ONLY ACAPELLA GROUP WITH A STAR!!!!

It is an often debated subject among the Pentaholics as to just how soon we introduce the "Beginners Guide" as we don't want to overdo the introduction. This is a compilation of snips of a whole load of songs which PTX have released. It highlights each member with some of their solos and then a brief history in video. It is quite long - 14+ minutes and is a little dated now (Feb 2020) but is a good watch ruclips.net/video/lDxIfwfCmQE/видео.html&pp=ygUdYmVnaW5uZXJzIGd1aWRlIHRvIHBlbnRhdG9uaXg%3D.
Things you need to know because if you get these wrong “Pentaholics” will come after you with pitch forks and torches! Ha Ha Ha!!
1- There is NO Auto-Tune; what you hear is actually what they sing. They really are that good. One exception is the 90's Dance Medley where Cher used auto-tune as an effect - so they had to.
2- What produces everything that you hear in the video, you see in the official video. If there is an instrument used in the music, you see it on screen. In the 2022 Christmas album, there are some instruments not featured throughout the album.
3- They never release something on video they can’t reproduce with the exact same quality live on-stage.

Comparing groups in the a capella genre is really difficult. They are all so unique. I just enjoy them all.
Avi, the original bass, is the only person who left the group. Matt Sallee took his place. If you want to know about his history, Peter Barber on RUclips has a podcast interview with Matt that explains how he made it into the group.
Somebody has already or will post their entire history on one of your reactions. It’s a really good intro to them.
My favorite performances are their live ones. All the Hollywood Bowl 2022 videos are good. If you want to watch them record, try their short film, the Recording of Evergreen.

As far as I know they haven’t released any tour dates for 2025, they just finished their Christmas 2024 tour a few weeks ago and Kirstie is roughly 8 months pregnant (not sure how long of a break they plan on taking), also they all basically live in the LA area and with the fires who knows.

Wow, a Darren reference, and Vivian too! The only other one that comes to mind is the youngest member of the Partridge Family, the little boy on drums. I am loving that you’re keeping up with Pentatonix. The original bass singer was Avi Kaplan, who exited about 2017 and now has embarked on a solo career. The heavy workload took a toll and he needed more family time. New bass singer, who joined a really short time later, is Matt Sallee, and he’s been with the group as long as Avi was now. That’s been the only change. Despite the changing hair, facial and otherwise, it’s always Kirstie and it’s always Mitch. If you watch their duet with Dolly Parton for Jolene (for which they won their third Grammy,) you’ll even see Mitch’s bald phase. Keep ‘em coming, please, I always enjoy your reactions! Peace …

Kirstie and Mitch (counter-tenor) are your basic chameleons. Avi Kaplan, original bass, left in 2017 for personal health reasons.

Yes, both Mitch and Kirstin change they hair style a lot, the only change in the group is Avi and Matt, Avi is the beard guy with the deep voice, the base, Avi left Ptx in 2017, Matt is the new bass, and is with them since them, he is great singer too

PTX owns Christmas I think they have 7 albums now There is a video titled the transformation of Pentatonix I'll give you a lot of info information on the group. There's also 1107 fac107 107 facts about Pentatonix It may be 101It may be 101 Which also gives lots of information. As a producer you would probably really enjoy watching the Video titled making evergreen. That was their Christmas album2 years ago and they invited the cameras in To see them practiceing and then recording The Songs for the album. Pretty much you get to see their process

They’ve been a group since 2013 so you really gotta look at the years of the video to get an idea. They actually don’t really change their looks that much if you think about that, they’ve been around for 12 years. There’s only been one member change and that is the bass, Avi left and Matt replaced him back in 2017.

That's a 3rd great version of this song (the original of course and Disturbed's version). I only discovered this group a few months ago as well, though reaction channels like yours and Black Pegasus. I realize now that they've been big for a while, but I'm not sure where people discovered them as music is so fragmented these days. I grew up listening to radio in the 70s and 80s and now I still listen to a lot of internet radio (BBC 6 is great, though I'm in the US) but never heard Pentatonix played anywhere before I found them on RUclips.

For me Pentatonix is it they are my absolute favorites they're so good! Cause when you look at other groups like home free, and voiceplay, they're really Bot There is like a dozen of them And they usually have to bring in a female when they wanna do a different sound. Pentatonix, there's 5 of them 12345! They already have a female. And just the wall of sound that comes out of them With just 5 voices is incredible to me. I have seen them live their just amazing life.
So again there's only been 1 lineup change In 2017 when the original base singer Avi Kaplan Chose to leave the group , and then they brought in matt salee. But yes Mitch and Kirsten change up their looks in just about every single video!
I'm loving that you're going down this rabbit hole , I'd love , I'd love to see your reaction to some live Live performances!

Mitch is the chameleon, both in style and voice! Kirstie right behind. I think theyre still searching for their look yet as remember they were teenagers when they started ptx. So like most teens do they evolve and learn themselves. They've just done in front of everyone. They are the most amazing acapella groupd and even home fries have tp admit without ptx hime free wouldn't have the success they have because the audience was what ptx created. But I feel they're in a different league and all the awards and fans prove, who by the way includes Simon cowell! Lmao oh and I got another entry in when they swap actors for a character. Becky in Roseanne. They made fun of it too. Lol soap operas so it every other week.

Mitch and Kirsten often look so different new fans don't realise its the same people, but it always is.
The new black dude is the new base, he's been there longer than the original now though.

The „girl“ (Kirstie Maldonado) is the same -and the black hair was just a phase. The only real member swap was that the previous bass (Avi Kaplan, Jesus-type bearded guy) had to leave the group in 2017 for personal/family reasons and was replaced by the current bass singer Matt Sallee.

  • @gr8music535
    @gr8music535 4 дня назад +3

Avid Kaplan was the original bass singer (beard, long hair usually kept under a cap). His left after about six years because he found the pace of production and touring too draining, and because he wanted to make his own music. Matt Sallee replaced him. Avi has gone in a folk-ish direction as a solo artist; check out "Change on the Rise" and "The Last Thing I Need", but it's all good.

FYI...Avi (initial Bass) decided after 7 years that their traveling the world was too much for him, and now Matt (new bass has been with them for 7 years. The rest have been there the whole time...BUT, they all change their looks, clothes all the time. Bottom line however, is the they have truly grown in popularity and singing..THEY ARE SPECIAL !!
They have over 22 MILLION (!) subscribers, and a collectively nearly 8 BILLION (!) views of all their product, which approaches about 400 videos (!). You're a very good reaction, but you will never catch up with all their output...but keep trying !! Oh btw, they have been on 5 world tours and have done nearly 200 concerts...MTV sponsored a concert where the video and audio was super-good and really shows their live uber talent...it's "2016 PopSpring Concert"...check it out !!

Mitch & Scott had a duo called "Superfruit". Please react to Superfruit's "Empire Medley" & "Hip Hop Goes Broadway, part 1 & 2". Most reactors do part 1 & 2 together.
    Requesting these PTX reactions:
"Pop Spring 2016". It's an event Japan puts on. They do 3 original PTX songs and "The Evolution of Michael Jackson ". They also have an official video of it, but the "Pop Spring" version has a little bit of choreography. It's a little longer, but well worth it. Also, when you feel you're ready, please react to "Pentatonix - Aha!, Singapore, The Star Vista".
PTX is the best A'Capella group because 1. They tackle & conquer all genres,
    2. They have 3 Grammys (4 nominations). 4. The only A'Capella group to have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
