      @@arpc bit of a newbe to pcp & scopes etc, can ya give us a tip on ( my zero set at 20 yards so if I see a rat at 10 yards do I put it a mill or so under crosshairs to allow closeness & pellet etc 👍

    • @arpc
      @arpc  10 месяцев назад

      @@martincoombs1295 This is best for you to do trial and error. There's videos on hold off which explain how to judge your hold over and under. This varies in power, pellet, distance and scope.
      Get a box, set it up 20 yards away and shoot a hole at your zero. Move 5 yards away and shoot the same spot again, see where it lands, this distance is your hold off for that range.
      Repeat this every 5 yards out to your max comfortable shooting range marking down the change on your reticle, one mildot, two, three etc.
      Then reverse this moving closer and marking down the same.
      When you're in the field, use these references for shooting.
      The ARPC Toolkit App on Google Play has a feature to let you store your hold off values for quick reference later.

    Nice shoots. After a mouse/rat plague in the '60s, I remember my uncle shooting rats in the grain shed. Some of those were near the size of cats. The .22 short rifle helped clear a lot of the buggers away. Such a sweet little rifle, even if not an air rifle.
    Nice shooting, good video.

    Have you ever considered using chocolate as bait? It brings them to a target area of your choosing, they find it irresistable & if you use grated chocolate they can't just grab a lump & run off with it. Chocolate always worked a treat when I used to shoot rats, even in daylight hours. Sadly, I'm too old & too riddled with arthritis to go shooting now, but in the 1970s I was out every weekend without fail!
    Best regards.

    Wow, it's been a minute since you posted a video. Glad to get one from you. I have to say, that if I was stuck using a sub 12 gun, I would use a .177 myself, but once you get into FAC power, the .177 pales in comparison all the way around to any larger cal. I'm so spoiled by my 30 that my 25 and 22 feel like toys anymore. Been knocking larger stuff off (like raccoons and woodchucks) at 50 to 105 yards with relative ease. For what and where you are shooting here, your gun is about ideal.

    I've been watching pest control videos for a year now and find the experience relaxing. Being a "country lad" probably helps! Channel authors are at pains to point out that head shots are humane but surely torso shots are just as good? The heart should stop instantaneously with a shot to the torso and thus the rat "dies" immediately. Correct me if I'm wrong...

    • @arpc
      @arpc  Год назад +1

      Absolutely right. I try to get a headshot where I can, It's my preference because I can quickly collect the animal and put it away in its disposal place. A body shot (H&L shot) often results in the animal running away.
      You are correct, body and head give the same result. Dead rats.

      @@arpc Thank you for that explanation. Yes, I notice that some rats run off after getting shot, but they usually don't get far. It's the jumping ones that make me laugh... but I shouldn't admit that to too many people!

    • @arpc
      @arpc  Год назад

      Hi! Thanks for watching!
      If you mean they move/snap to the target then that's because I'm using an ATN scope with a rangefinder. I range the target and the scope adjusts the cross hair the where it's needed. I don't need to worry about that.

    • @joshnolan8826
      @joshnolan8826 Год назад

      @@arpc Thats a fantastic benefit for a scope! basically an automatic zeroing scope? Will have to perhaps invest in one if I get the chance to do any pest control myself.

    • @arpc
      @arpc  Год назад

      @joshnolan8826 It's amazing! You still have to zero it but it's quick. Supposed to be one shot zero but more like 3.
      After that, it knows where the zero is in relation to the target and the onboard ballistic calculator makes the changes for you.
