This is a prefect demonstration of why these cars are only for do-it-yourselfers and not for the general public. Replacing a dozen parts to stop a shudder is not something most want to do.These cars are really tough to fix. I suspect we will get to watch a lot of repairs over time with JR - much more than any other car he owns. Fiats are notorious for that.
What year and what models are you talking about. We see more toyotas and hondas in our shop for majors. Blown head gasket, blown radiators, sludge, oil/fuel dilution, transmissions, clutches. CV joints, ball joints, etc.

While it does happen to Toyota and Honda in a few cases, if the cars are maintained, it does not happen on a wide basis.

Cant wait to see a fix for the shudder. I have a Dodge Dart 1.4L that has the same miss/shudder when pulling through 2nd and 3rd. I've done plugs, coils, new air filter, and even changed the turbo because the fins were dented. Still misses :(.
JR you tightened that mount to 3 grunts when it clearly called for 2 grunts. Over grunting motor mounts will lead to premature failure. Most likely what happened to the old mounts.
Yep. Usually the passenger side breaks then the other 2 a fail short while later. It's worse on the Abarth mostly because people tend to slam them harder, plus the non turbo has 98 lbs of torque vs 170.
I went to Bondurant Racing School in Phoenix August 16th, and they still had a couple of Abarths there. Surprised at the exhaust, louder than I expected. The instructors had a bit of fun with it.
Might I recommend a set of magnetic sockets? They make them in deep well also. They're great for installing/removing hardware in hard to reach areas. I got a set on amazon for like 60 bucks.
@ 7:14 lose the 12" extension and try again with the air impact. Extensions reduce impact torque a huge amount and there is no reason nto be using it there.
I keep a couple of 1-1/4” x 1/8 wall pieces of steel tubing in my tool box. One is 24” long, the other is 48” long. They slide right over all of my breaker bars and socket wrenches including my 3/4” drives. I have all the leverage I need. With my 3/4” breaker and the 4-footer, I can change the wheels on a Peterbilt.
Shudder is typically transmission related so you may want to look in that direction before spending more money on sparkplugs, motor mounts and such. ijs
Are you dumb? He already replaced plugs and mounts...it was smart for him to replace the oem plugs with over 100k on them. And mounts are cheap enough to just do them if they are bad. Most people overlook mounts.

Silliest tightest thing I ever saw was a hydraulic ram for a dump truck. Needed a repack. Guy named joey was hanging off feet of cheater bar, literally hanging, and bouncing for “impact”, while one other guy held a rosebud on the nut and a third beat it with a hammer. Went on for hours. Didn’t get to see it put back together due to a lovely heart attack a couple of days later. But it was an epic fight.
Anchor mounts are trash! I wouldn't use them! I installed a set and the NVH level in my vehicle went way up! Lots of vibrations in the dash and floor pan areas. I took them out and installed a set of OEM mounts and it was quiet and vibration free once again.
Just warning to all people never by anchor motor mounts I got some for Dodge Stratus years ago when I had a Dodge Stratus and within a couple months after installing them I had to replace them cuz they're already cracking and coming apart and I upgraded to carquest ones and I did not have the problem ever again. The rubber compound anchor motor mounts use sucks.
Buddy, anchor makes ALL aftermarket mounts. They are OEM quality. The problem is you had a stratus. Those are pure junk and never good. I've worked in parts for 11 years and on cars for 12
@@thagerdorn2009 I worked at Advance for 10 years (ASE certified) and sold (even purchased) plenty of these mounts. I'm not boasting but giving context for my next statement. Anchor motor mounts are garbage. They are certainly not made to the same specifications as OEM. I always advise customers to go OEM for motor mounts if they could afford it.

@@thagerdorn2009 Dude.... Here's merely one of many examples of Anchor's low quality. I purchased four of the same part number and all were made to a different spec and size (up to .25" variance). Three of the incorrectly spec'd mounts caused extreme vibration that wasn't present prior to installing the new mounts. Finally, the forth mount eliminated the vibration entirely. How's that for quality control. There is a reason why they are a fraction of the cost of OEM mounts.

Does the Fiat have the same problem as a PT? My sisters PTs timing belt broke and when it did it tore up EVERYTHING under the hood. I guess the mechanic said PT had the worst set up under the hood.
Good call on the coils. They're pointless on a sub 300 whp fiat... hell they're probably pointless on a 400 whp fiat :p ... and get that dog bone done. I wore three out on a TD05H 500. It banged just like that.
Did you ever contemplate that CV axle is the cause ? Getting into the throttle would lift the front end causing the shimmy ? If you feel it through the steering wheel then that’s it , in my opinion .
You don't exactly feel it through the steering wheel, more of through the seat. So weird, now the shudder seems to have moved to lower gears. I'll check the CV for play next for sure 💯
@@WatchJRGo If it's the inner cv joint, you may not detect play but could still be faulty. Faulty inner shaft joints cause vibration under load. Tough to diagnose for sure.

The one time I got a water pump for a Honda when I had ordered for a Ford V8, turns out the box had been mislabeled by Gates, they rushed me the correct pump free of charge and never even asked for the Honda pump back, my return was as easy as e-mailing them a few pics of the wrong part and wrong label on the box. Much better then any other auto parts supplier I’ve ever dealt with.

I have a 2010 Ram 3500 with 263k and a 2012 fiat 500 with 120k. Both have been good vehicles. I maintain them well.
