Researching for this video made me realize how loyal JAL is to Boeing
Welcome to my Airline Fleet Evolution series that looks at the evolution of airline fleets. This series looks back at an airline's entire history year-by-year, and all aircraft types operated by the featured airline will be showcased. Each type is usually pictured with the livery that was in use at the time of their introduction.
Japan was prohibited from all aeronautical activities at the end of World War II. As a result of this, their national airline at the time, Greater Japan Airways, ceased operations. It wasn't until 1951 that a new national carrier was formed. Japan Airlines was founded by the Japanese government on August 1, 1951 and initially flew a leased DC-3 from Philippine Airlines. Regular services commenced in October 1951 with Martin 2-0-2s, with Northwest Orient pilots flying the aircraft. Transpacific flights were established on February 2, 1954 starting with the Tokyo-San Francisco route. International services subsequently expanded to Hong Kong, Bangkok, and Singapore. Jet operations began with the introduction of DC-8-30s, and JAL became the first Asian operator of the Boeing 747, the world's first wide-body aircraft, in 1970. The airline was also the launch customer of a special 747 version, the SR, which was designed to handle domestic routes within Japan. As a result of the 9/11 attacks, the airline merged with Japan Air System in 2002 and fully absorbed its network and fleet in 2006. JAL is a member of the OneWorld alliance and operates many routes within Asia and other parts of the globe.
Note: This video only covers JAL's main fleet and does not show aircraft operating for subsidiaries. Some of the retired aircraft types are still in service with those subsidiaries.

1990-2000’s is my fav
I guess but it just reminds people of the accident
JAL was Japan’s largest airline until 2009.
They're still the 2nd largest on international flights tho.
@@RetroAvi8or is it now the ANA biggest?

It fits well on the 747s and 787 for me.
their fleets looks interesting to me.
3:24 also a 787 in an Arc of the Sun looks pretty good
That livery was only worn during test flights. The plane was painted with the current livery before being sent to JAL if I remember correctly.
oops I meant 3:26
@@RetroAvi8or But it does look good on her
@@ScaringCrab Totally agree. JAL's current livery is so boring tbh.
@@RetroAvi8or True, I miss the Arc of the Sun (also their 747s)

JA8119 was a 747SR, which basically used a stronger version of the 747-200's fuselage.
Can you do Philippine airlines fleet history next?
I'll see if I can make it.
0:17 Japan Airlines Dc3's bulkhead With philippine Flag?
jal 2006 was my fav

Douglas DC-3 with philippine flag?
all 772,773 were retired
Malaysia Airlines 1947-20??
i like 747-400D :D
Retro Avi8or I sub to u and next year is the 70 anniversary of JAL
Thanks man!
I love jal
I’ll really miss the JAL Japan Airlines
You mean JAL with 747 in the fleet?
I like the 2015 version
JAL still used outdated planes in 2008.
Some of them came from the JAS merger while others were just late-production units of outdated models.
If you look closely at the DC-3 you will see it had the Philippine flag. That's because this DC-3 was a leased plane from Philippine Airlines.
and pal is independent to jal
I want a unique series xD but idk what
Since you like locomotives, perhaps you can make a railroad fleet evolution series. ;)
