Kings Lead Hat (off 'Before and After Science' is actually an anagram for TALKING HEADS (who he had just started working with). Eno's titles and words were created just to fit sounds so they are ALWAYS surreal, but with usually his added waspish humour ('Blank Frank' i.e = Bryan Ferry).
Great stuff Todd. As you rightly say, an amazing single but I've never seen this footage before. Do you know what it was filmed for? Looks like a TV studio.
Hi Mark ! Like you know by now ;) I throw things together in a quick fashion and don't always spend time giving the details or looking into the history... It's def for a Dutch TV show in 1974 but you'd need to do 'the legwork' on Eno sites to pin point dates and the finer details as I'm just a lazy mother as you probably know by now. ;) Keep Swinging ! TopPop music TV show. They covered a LOT of the touring glam/rock acts in the 70s, as you will usually find at least one of their performances in video music compilations of bands and artists from the time. And they are ALL as stage managed like this with the added 'video' effects usually.
