- Kaiser-Walzer, Op. 437 (Emperor Waltz) is a waltz composed by Johann Strauss II in 1889. The waltz was originally titled Hand in Hand and was intended as a toast made in August of that year by Emperor of Austria Franz Joseph I on the occasion of his visit to the German Emperor Wilhelm II where it was symbolic as a 'toast of friendship' extended by Austria-Hungary to the German Empire.

My father used to put me to sleep as a child to the sound of this... it mean, be still, be quiet, enjoy and sleep now... and it worked. Ahhhhhhh it brings back wonderful memories!
@Royal Snowbird my dad did the same :)
I approve
+Korporal Gföllner Is he still alive?
***** At least we have his waltz.
Emperor Franz Joseph I hddfhhh
Watch your mouth!
When your empire is 109 people...
Big background building approved.
It might be the greatest piece of music of all time.....just brilliant!
As a dancer, I naturally love Strauss' pieces of all the classical greats. I still listen to Beethoven, Bach, Tchaikovsky, and the others but dancing to Strauss' pieces makes them somewhat more interactive.
Gott erhalte Franz, den Kaiser,
Unsern guten Kaiser Franz!
Lange lebe Franz, der Kaiser,
In des Glückes hellstem Glanz!
Ihm erblühen Lorbeerreiser,
Wo er geht, zum Ehrenkranz!
Gott erhalte Franz, den Kaiser,
Unsern guten Kaiser Franz!
Heil der Kaiser Franz.Josseff und Seine Habsburg Dynastie !

**Repost, but this should always be at the top!!!**
I think this 2011 is the best era to be alive, but I like the idea of a living in the country side. The only music you hear is what your mother hums or father fiddles. Then one evening, after months and months of waiting, you take a carriage to a ball. Everyone is adorned in splendid gowns and suits. Inside is the only orchestra you will hear for many more months, so you cherish every single instant of it. Every note, every crescendo is a visceral dream. I strive to listen to music like that.
unfortunately, we had to wait until the modern age for all the world to hear since in Straus's time mostly only wealthy people would ever hear this.

4 years 8 months later.
One of the finer things in life.
You know, I do hear a tiny bit of lossiness due to the digital conversion, but I have to take my hat off to you for having successfully preserved the full dynamic range of the original recording. That happens very rarely in RUclips classical music clips, and I appreciate the care you took to LEAVE THE ORIGINAL DYNAMICS INTACT. Nice job; no overmodulation and no noise. Neat.
Truly Strauss at his best, beautiful classical piece
Strauss is wonderful, you mother had good taste.

aristocratic and at the same time divine, pure example of perfection that a man can dream of !!!
Victorian-era music.........simply unsurpassed. You can see the see the hoop skirts swaying lively as the fine ladies are danced around the room and the music crecendoes to a fever-pitch. MASTERPIECE!!

A Real Tressure.
🙌
That, friends, is one great performance, great orchestra, great conductor. None better on RUclips.
My family came from Austro-Hungary also the Galacian Provinces. Vienna, Budapest, issinbuitVolva as well some small Hungarian Village outside of Budapest. Also my Great Great Grandfather Jonas was from Pest.
My dear Friend,
He literaly cherished the idea to accept a peace treaty with the western allies of WWI in 1917-1918, when he came to power after his old uncle's die in november 1916.
He and his wife tried hard, contacted French & English on neutral soil in Neuchâtel (CH), but German intelligence service discovered, and it was all. The end is well known, and Karl I died exiled in Funchal (P) on the island of Madeira in 1921, aged only 34...! He was a good Man. Amen!
Love how it comes in so dramatically.
Great stuff, thanks for sharing such beautiful music! Thanks for sharing the pics as well !
To be frank, it's a bit like that today as well. At home, you only hear the average modern music that gets grinded into your brains by various media, but there comes that rare opportunity where you attend a ball and get to hear, and properly dance to, real music. If you ever get the opportunity, I would strongly recommend parttaking in a ball event, it is simply an unmatched experience.
Glory to kaiser FRANZ JOSEF may the HAPSBURG royal family continue to live!!!Heil Osterreich and all austrians may GOD bless them
Just Wonderful: Thanks.
Wow. This makes me feel so Regal. Wooohoooo (in my dreams!)
this is the perfect background music for a loving dream..
It makes me think of a penguin king, on his way to a magical feast in a castle of snow...I have no idea why though...
I have this romantic dream of swaying around in a ridiculous ball gown while listening to this... :D
Such greatness transcends time and our human longings. Thank you, Strauss, for making us taste an infinitesimal part of your immortality!
Beautiful Waltz.
Thanks for posting.
Hi Dear! You have some of the finest collections. All of them are perennial favourites.
Thanks for your generous contribution.
calico you are so in tune with the mood i feel from this music . Thanks you for sharing your dream scene!!
Wicked North. Thank you for posting this.
Amazing waltz
That's one of the best comments i have ever read on YT Honestly.
I guess you translated perfectly the spirit of the time. I have never thought about it.
Nice. Compliments!
Thanks for posting this. What a brilliant Strauss waltz; music fit for a Kaiser. Did you read about the 110-year-old Ukrainian who recently said that, of all the regimes he's lived under, the Austrians were the best?! It seems that, like so much else, people only appreciated the Austro-Hungarian Empire after it had gone. Danke schon and long live Austria!
Ah, Ukraine...
I hope you're doing well friend.
Thanks for posting, this was quite a "blast from the past". :)
Subscribed.
Simply outstanding.
The best part starts at 0:00 and ends at 10:34.

And a legend was born.

Getting always older and older, but never less good
Tres beau! Magnifique!
Beautiful song
Superb.
Laurakbp.....it's encouraging to know there that is also someone out there who envisages themselves in an, now long lost, environment dancing to this....:R
The Austria-Hungarian Empire was a precursor to the European Union. You could travel to work from the Black Sea to Bavaria to Poland right into Northern Italy without hinderence. The money used was the Thaler, from which comes the word dollar. Meinen GrosseTanten, haben nach den Russian Umsturzung von Kiev bis Wien zur Fusse gegangen.
Hoch lebt Franz Josef! Grusse aus Australian.
incredible.
Classical music rules!!
music to my ears
Recuerdo haberla escuchado alguna vez, me gusta!
I was wondering where I've heard this before. Now I remember it from "The Last Emperor." They played it in the royal (Manchukou) reception scene.
WUNDERBAR!!!
I am an Empress whenever i listen to this music Darling!!
@calico992 lol at the picture you paint ,but imagine the culture shock of that ,no wonder people fell in love dancing to this type of music at that time
My favourite waltz
Ever
:)
5:38-6:12. Spectacular
Well, I concur with everyone praising Johann Strauss--the beauty and durability and danceability of this gorgeous waltz. But I also submit my praised for the "emperor's" (Franz Joseph I's) whiskers! The late 19th century had, world-wide, the wildest hair and beards and 'burns in the history of men. Looks fun.
Absolutely!
cool music
Herrlich schoen!
Austria was something with the emperor. It's so sad it's all lost.
What Kind of Music is this ? Heavenly ?Celestial ? I love it !!!
i really like this musical
By the way: The Emperor Waltz was NOT composed in honour to Franz Joseph I,
but in honour to WILHHELM II from Germany!!!
as a musical present on the occasion of his visit at Vienna!
I do really prefer Franz Joseph than Wilhelm II.
so true. He was such a great and wonderful person. He deserved to be happy
Cool
ooohhh....when I finish my time machine.....

great emperor
Wich is the orchestra? And the conductor? Very interesting!
Me encanta que pongan fotos.. Si pueden poner los nombres de las personas seria mejor y mas informativo. More photos, please, with names. I love Strauss music .
Dear Lucas! Austria was a small duchy when Hungary was already a great eastern-european power, a rival of Byzantium in the race for domination over the Balcans. In 1485 Matthias Corvinus occupied Wienna and a few more years and the Hapsburg domination over Austria would have ended, but the rest is history.
I agree with sizzle2. Long live the emperors and kings!
Danke für dies schöne Video!!
Und nicht vergessen,
18.August!! Des Kaisers Geburtstag!!
