I have first hand experience in cooking meat on a big flat river rock like this. Idk what kind of rock it was but, after we heated it up and cooked some pork chops, my friend grabbed the chicken breast from the cooler (it was about refridgerator temp.) And laid it on the stone. On contact, the rock had a violent temperature shock reaction and launched a chunk of rock (about the size and shape of a drink coaster) at the flashlight he was holding in his mouth. He was fine because of the flashlight. Caused quite the stir! Cook on steel, not river rocks....
I cannot beleive that people who camp arent taught this also rocks are not clean they can heave heavy metals on them and in them u should use them for cooking
Rocks by the river have water in them, when you heat it up , the water evaporates = expands = the rock explodes... I don't think the difference in temperature is what caused it.
I don't even know why he would bother to cook it on this rock. The point of cooking it on a rock is that in theory the rock can get to a very high temperature and you can achieve a sear. Taking it out of the river just increases the odds of a steam explosion while boiling the surface of your meat. Possibly one of the worst ways to cook a nice cut.
@@tyrrollins Thats the cool thing about being a human...We all can do the same thing in a different way. I can see you're one of those HOW DARE HE DO THIS THE WAY I DONT WANT HIM TO SO LET ME TELL EVERYONE HOW BAD HE AND WHAT MIGHT HAPPEN IF HE DOES IT THIS WAY. DUDE TALKING ABOUT STEAM EXPLOSION
@Stutz808 I would never take away a person's right to do whatever completely retarded suicidal thing they want to do. But other people might take their own personal safety a little more serious. When heating up rocks, steam explosions are a very real thing. Typically you don't deal with them while cooking food because how many ppl cook on rocks? Where you typically encounter them is during foundry work. Where your furnace and crucible are typically made out of rock/ceramic materials. Which can absorb moisture over time. So when you heat up the furnace and crucible you do it very slowly to allow steam to escape. The same principle should apply when using stone for cooking. Bring it to temperature slowly. In the case of that particular rock, a 24 hour period in an oven at low temp would be more appropriate. Steam explosions are no joke.
I absolutely love this guy, but I've been advised never to use wet or saturated stones. The water becomes superheated within the rock and can burst, sending fragments in all directions. Looks like it didn't happen to him and hope that it never happens. I'm just wondering, not criticizing. Thank you for all the inspiration. It's one of my favorite channels, bar none.
