    This and Body of Lies are so similar in tone. It’s crazy when both brothers make a similar film and their tones are very alike. RIP Tony Scott. I still couldn’t believe he killed himself. He’s made so many good films. His style is unlike most things. I think to describe it best is it’s Ridley Scott blended with Oliver Stone. Stone has that weird way of editing like “Natural Born Killers” or “Any Given Sunday”.

    Love this movie! Just wished they didn't cut Wong's character out of the prison break. Thought it was amiss to the story where both Wong and Redford saved Pitt's character out of loyalty

    To clarify people, this movie is not about Carlos Hathcock. It's a fictional story about two CIA operatives, and is actually really good. There are obviously accuracy issues with the weapon/scope/and evasion depicted in this scene - but the movie on the whole is actually really good.

      Starting by the vietnamese flying american Sykorsky helo…. If any chopper at all. That alone is a unexplicable mistake. But the movie is good.

    The sniper takes the shot, followed by his spotter instantly unloading his mag straight into the cockpit of that helicopter, then bug out quickly...at least that's what should have happened, the way I see it.

      It is a flashback scene that is depicting what Muir (Redford) told his colleagues in the situation room. That’s why it’s distorted. If you’ve seen the resolution of the movie then it is a clue to mark Muir as an unreliable narrator.

    Didn't know that US snipers used Lee Enfield bolt action rifles in Nam. Yet again, the spotter was packing an Ak47, so who knows?

      No expert, but a scene prior to this shows that Pitt and his native spotter tried to fully adapt to Nam, all the way to cooking and eating the same meal. Maybe that answers the AK47 part.

      First off let's keep in mind it's a movie and thus here to entertain you. They had to use the Enfield as it was only one left in the gun prop shop. Seems some other Hollywood types had gathered the weapons a six shooter I heard and gone out to ping some people...Not sure but heard it was some dude that dislikes Brad...recall his last name was Baldman or Baldloser....oh ...wait it was Baldwhiner

      Not really sure what they were trying to do with the sniper rifle. Maybe pass it off as an older model Parker Hale rifle? Tom Bishop and is sidekick were in the MACV/SOG and they typically used non-standard and enemy weapon which included AK-47's and RPD's. Some SOG members even went out on patrol in black pajamas and stuff like that.

      My old man who had 47 months in Vietnam told me a lot of his LRRP guys picked up AKs and used them. They didn’t sound like and were more reliable than M16s. My Dad was 196TH LIB LRRP medic. RIP

      @@misterysmithers8566 No, they aren't Chinese. To be honest, I have not watched the movie, I was just binging on random clips, but I actually looked up the plot and this was indeed in Vietnam. I mean, seriously, Hollywood movies can be stupid and incorrect lots of things in war movies, but not that much. These people are clearly Vietcong, they dressed even like one, see those hats? They aren't Chinese. The title even said Vietnam flashback, same with description.

      @@SwornReaper It was in Nam but the officer is not VC but NVA, maybe liaisoning with VC in a remote area but possibly escorted. The use of helicopter by NVA is poorly documented. apparently the first unit including choppers was created after Paris treaty in 1973.

    Carlos Hathcock is the origin of just about every sniper story ever told by Hollywood, and what he actually did makes this look like a walk in the park.

    Yay they shot down the chopper. That means they get to teleport 20kms to the LZ and avoid all the patrols from the fucking NVA base they were 200 meters away from.

    Can someone please explain the scene to me? Is Brad Pitt also Robert Redford? How did the chopper know there was a sniper? Why did the NVA Staff not immediately run?

      Robert Redford was a CIA agent, and had sent Brad Pitt (Marine Sniper) and his observer to take out an NVA General. The chopper was flying around for security, grew suspicious and was moving to check if these weird bushes were indeed snipers. The NVA Staff didn't know what was going on and hesitated between the two shots.

      Star wars is science fiction set in the future. The future is unknown. This scene was set in the past. Plenty of historical information about snipers in the Vietnam war, equipment used and tactics. Many of them are still alive to advise on films. Just a low budget, lazy, bad acting movie. I imagine you are more of a Star Trek nerd huh

A general lack of effort, and an over reliance on cliche and piss colored filters, k. But to pick apart this scene because the sniper isn't using the correct grip or bolt pull...stupid. Like, who the fuck cares? ESPECIALLY since it's a lazy , shitty movie. Hey, I imagine you're a big fan of Inglorious Basterds. Tell me I'm wrong.
      I was never really a big fan of Star Trek, but sure, I'll cop to being a film nerd.

    Don’t these studios hire military consultants? A Marine sniper’s spotter carrying an AK? Hollywood has warehouses full of prop guns, it’s not like they didn’t have an M16 laying around to use.

      In Any recon missions like it's typical and more common to use a AK 47 then a m16.they both have distinct sounds when fireing so it makes more sense to use the weapon of your enemy

      You should ask a military consultant why the sniper would carry an AK. The consultant would tell you why they didn't use one of the M16s laying around. And then you'll say something like, "Oh yeah..that makes sense."
