Those new potatoes in can, it is quite a common notion that Specimen carpers used to hook 'em. Probably died out with medern boilie type baits. It makes my day when a challenge pops up in RUclips
I'm sure Bob Nudd used potatoes covered in coffee in a match once it was on screaming reels a long long time ago well done Andy you well and truly smashed Jamie 😀
Yup, it was called Camp Coffee - a liquid with chicory in it. Think it was at Barford near Norwich as you couldn't use pellets on the hook, only their pellets for feed.
I’m sure I have a book somewhere written by John Wilson and he goes on about potatoes as bait. There are a lot of other weird and wonderful stuff like using lentils and chickpeas covered too. My grandad tried those, I’ll never forget the day he told me to smell the tin when he’d opened it. He clearly knew something I didn’t 🤣🤣
Mad and marvelous as always, keep the challenges going fellas. Literally the only channel on RUclips I've subscribed to 👍, well worth it for the technical information in some of the other videos 👌
I've had a 5lb common, and a 3lb chub on floating Hula-Hoops. I'd ran out of bread, and noticed fish 'topping' in the local 'Salford Anglers' pond. The Chub was a total surprise, but then hit into another 4 smaller ones, and a few Rudd on broken up peices, (banded), and they were the BIGGER Rudd too!! Bit of a frenzy on top, as I remember. Brilliant week as I also caught a big 3lb perch on LUNCHEON MEAT on the same pond! I also have a pic of a BEAUTIFUL common carp I got on my pole, on bread from same Salford Angler's pond.
That was hilarious, "You need some bait going in that edge Andrew" and then Jamie's face he pulled when he threw that spud in, I played it back about 4 times was so funny lol. He didn't like it that he got smashed up lol
Despite the incorrect Northern stereotype I thoroughly enjoyed that lads! Northerners don't use bloody bisto! We make proper gravy with the roast stock, browning, and a bit o corn flour. 🤣
@@WinningWays Don't you dare!!!!! 🤣🤣🤣 I'm from North Yorkshire, Harrogate n I call it a bread bun. I'm guessing it's Rich I'm speaking to? So next time the lads are up at Sessay Willows they need to ask in the cafe there. 🤣🤣
Loved this. Besides the usual banter and showmanship, the bait is a bit of going back to basics. I've often used baits like potato, or peas, chickpeas, when river fishing in wild areas. Also, another killer bait is arpacaș (Arpacaș is a Romanian basic food produced by husking and refining wheat, spelt, barley or millet.). Boiled until it pops up, it's good as both groundbait, hookbait and it probably even sticks on methods. It's a killer for stuff like Rudd, bream, crucian and carp.
Don’t know if you guys have already done it, but you should do a challenge where you watch each other’s float, telling each other when to strike, while still watching their float while you play the fish also. You can’t even look at your float when you bait up..so bait up for each other etc, The winner is whoever lands the most fish..but If Andy lands the most fish, that means Jamie won because he’s the one watching Andy’s float, baiting up etc…make sense?
I was once stood on a bridge admiring a rather large chub when a nipper came along and threw a monster munch into the water, the chub, a good 6lbs plus, promptly gobbled it up... Crisps for the win for me from now on.
I was lucky enough once to sit and watch bob as a child fishing the coffee potatos at decoy lakes in Peterborough... I was meant to be fishing with my grandad but as soon as I realized who was 3 pegs away from us I say behind him watching all session... The best experience in my angling time to date. I believe my grandad still has my cap bob signed in his fishing room.
A couple of challange ideas. Biggest weight difference so two fish biggest difference in weight between them. Count to 10 catch a 1lb, 2lb, 3lb up to 10 and fastest wins or who gets the higest number from 1 so you might catch 2 10lbers and nothing else then the other can win with a 1lber. Guess the weight 30 min match but who ever is cloest in guessing the weight of the newt wins. Love all your videos. This should be on TV if monster carp can be on TV this deserves to be
I'm sure there was a well-known angler back in the 80's/90's that thoroughly recommended spuds, garden peas and chick peas for carp and tench, probably the jolly beard JW .
It's to the veg shop not the tackle shop well done Andy good fishing and filming love the banter as allways thight lines Jamie your prep as to be better great.
Love the vids you guys make as a junior coach I always advise our junior section to watch you guys. Could you guys make a video blog aimed at junior anglers especially first second year junior anglers. We tend to find that youngsters especially our first and second year youngsters after watching angling Videos online turn up to our coaching sessions wanting to emulate you guys, now that’s great but most of them aren’t quite ready yet. If you guys could maybe make a video couple of simple rigs why’s and wherefore does don’t aimed at youngsters 7 to 8year olds Mainly fishing a 6m pole in water upto 7ft and maybe some advice to go along with it.now that would be a great help to lots n lots of clubs with junior sections 2 of the best match fishing guys on the planet giving them advice it would make our juniors stand up n listen especially when they think they can run before walking.thx
Having discovered your channel only recently I have just about watched everything on it in the last week, I only came back to angling this year after a good ten years away... What are the glasses that allow you to see through the surface so well?
Mate your on the right channel these guys with look after you on your return to angling and their great fun too the glasses used are polarised glasses they take away the surface glare and it really makes a difference
Yep. a decent set of polarised glasses, these were the Oakley Holbrook with Deep Water Lens, obviously they are the higher end but plenty of options out there starting from around £20.
I love these challenges and have watched them all. What is very noticeable is that Jamie sulks when he loses and Andy just seems to take it on the chin. Don't be a Brat Mr Hughes and keep the challenges coming.😁😁👍👍
Oh smash get smashed a fab challenge guys, unlucky Jamie we'll done Andy you smashed big time. On a next challenge keeping it vegetable based, most species or weight on garden peas only.
Just seen Rich at Lindholme, asked him about his new catchphrase “rudd on the spud”. He looked at me like I was a nutter. Maybe he was grumpy cos he didn’t qualify, again…..
Winning ways .. my fave channel.. you should help my small fishing channel and give me a shout out and subscription 😇😂 seriously tho would be funny to see Andy and Jamie fishing with small lures and spinners (upto 10g) for perch and pike. Tight lines fello fishermen 🎣 POTAAATO
Those of us who are old enough to know who Mr Crabtree is will know that par-boiled potatoes were once the carp bait of choice 😉
The original old school boilies!!

He did it on river for barbel.. made it look so easy x

It was carp crew Kevin Green was in a match
Mad challenge, mad anglers and great entertainment. Well done lads and thanks for the laughs.
“ Unlucky Jay lad “ 😂 cracks me up
I was just waiting for Andy to do a bomb in that swim again. Great stuff guys it just gets better and better.
These 2 are just like skool kids at Christmas, so excited in every aspect, and whoever said that you need to be quite whilst sat on a peg

To be fair, using surface baits on a water that doesn't allow it was always going to work, great job down the edge though Andy!

Used to use potato pellets years ago punched out to 6/8mm and soaked in coffee over night in fridge before bands existed
"This is your jumping peg" 🤣🤣🤣🙈
Epic, daft and hilarious - thanks so much for these challenges and videos
These challenges are ace and you two are mad 🤣
Now the lads must get a show on prime time tv, just imagine the amount of new anglers from watching the lads just having fun. Absolutely brilliant 👏👏
Loved it. Best challenge iv watched by far keep it going Chaps! Top work
Rudd on a spud had me in stitches 👏 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤦♂️
This is up there for me. Proper enjoyable to watch.

Im fairly sure I remember 50 years ago reading Fishing with Mr Crabtree, who was used parboiled new potatoes to catch chub
Surprised they didn’t do the Bob nudd coffee and gravy potato 🥔 ones great entertainment brilliant has always keep up the good work 👍👍👍

Marinated potato pellets work well. another one to try is dried fruit. raison, currants etc.
Watched this while fishing the feeder had to pause it a few times 😂 brilliant I'm going to do the tater challenge my self ☺️
Way back when before Carp puddles were invented and a 20lb carp was big news, the old carpers used par boiled potatoes as bait.
these two are brilliant. carp do like a 1/2 boiled spud on a ledger though.
Daft challenge but great to watch the gravy and spuds delivering the goods 👍🏻😂 Nice one Andy 👏🏻
Watched that and tried it for carp caught on it
Love these challenges :-)
Longtime ago often used potatoes and Broad beans, caught a few with them.

Mr Crabtree advocated small boiled spuds for carp !
Surface fishing is the best way to catch carp in summer. Will have to give French fries a go next time I'm out
Seem to work, just dissolve very quickly!
Congrats Andy………will wait now for the Sonubait variety to come out.
Fifty years ago when I went carpfishing with my dad we always used potatos and caught some nice fish
Love your 2 me I am a Yorkshire lad and your accents are great, look forward to your new videos as always :)
Mad as a box of frogs, great stuff
Great video,, never used spuds but chickpeas definitely good had some great nets on pellet wag with them ,,
Both old school classics :)

its amazing that three foods fish will NEVER see in the wild yet love :- bread tatties and cheese. weird
Like a potato challenge was always a foregone conclusion
I’m gonna ball it 🤣🤣🤣🤣 class 👍👍✌️✌️✌️

Keep up the good work
disqualification for fishing floating baits and telling jamie too late lol

There is a spud gun on Andy's bait tray, why..WHY didn't he use that on Jamie? 🤣🤣
Because it was rubbish and didn't fire anything!

buy a packet of Tesco's Pancakes for on the hook chalenge
