You dropped a drumstick at 2:43. Look closely, bottom right. The best one i've seen was their 2009 performance at The Edinburgh Tattoo. They set their drumsticks ON FIRE!! Totally awesome guys. Wish I was that good.
This is gorgeous! This just makes me so happy to be a person in this world. I may not be Swiss, but I'm human, and I can say that my species is frickin' AWESOME!
Bloody great job. Very clean technique and very clean bass spliting.Well tuned drums and awesome visuals. I would love to see them incorperate some tenors into this.A kick ass bass split at 2:26.
Pretty cool. But the drum-to-stuff was being done in American and Canadian drum corps in the 70s. Some good compositional stuff, but still 20 years behind BD, SV, and the Phantom Regiment.
Pshhh..I don't think you can keep a troop of drummers top secret for very long. "What is that noise? That surround sound is badass! Oh, wait, it's alot of dudes playing very loud percussion instruments."
PRECISION: That's the only word I can say to them. When we talk about precision, we talk about the Swiss. Precision watches, precision tools, precision everything, Go for PRECISION.
I read an interview with the guy who started this group. He said the name is just something he thought of one day. It has no other meaning. The interesting thing is a well known U.S. drummer has taught this band some of their stuff. His name is John Bosworth. I've seen his corps play and they are phenomenal.
Im from Basel too and played the drums, not very long though (maybe 10-20% of all the people in Basel have learned it because of the traditional "Fasnacht"). But it's long enough to say that you're right, you cannot play "clean" with those drums. Or not as you would expect it from DCI Drum Corps...
Can somebody help me please: What's the origin of this kind of drumming? What's the difference between bad and good drumline? Who composes the music? Any further informations welcome! I am stunned by what I see and hear. I want to know more.
I think you didnt understand what they exactly tried. and the drums they have never play "clean" as US-drums do. give me any other link/video to show me what you think is better ;)
GLORIOUS! Beautiful! Is it possible to fall in love with an entire drumline? (lol) They are fantastic! Better than Swiss chocolates! and more PRECISE than a Swiss watch! God bless their souls! It's amazing the things humans can do! I'm awestruck. -- The video and audio is perfect on this! Thank you!
i play snare drum and a lot of snare drums are tuned high personally for me in high school because it's all on the taste and personally we feel better as a snareline being able to play as perfectly as possible with a harder circumstance and feel the drum sound more of a tat and and is louder over the band to be able to lead the band in what needs to be accomplished like in the original military.
@Gheorgyi Uh... I hope you're just kiddin' around, but in case you aren't... This the "Military Tattoo" show hosted in Edinburgh, which has loads of performances from all over the world. This group - The Top Secret Drum Corps - is from Basel, Switzerland, hence the flags and outfits. The Top Secret bit partly refers to how they got together and trained in secret, and is also a humorous assertion that the Swiss militia has a secret musical weapon at its disposal :P Wouldn't put it past em!
I couldn't believe it when I read that there were comments from people on here who believed that these guys had nothing on DCI... I hadn't even heard of DCI but I knew it had to be something American because of all the bullshit trashtalk and the outright arrogance of the comments... So I checked out a few DCI videos and sure enough, I found that I was right. Yanks. Sorry DCI - You aint got shit on these guys and that's an end of it.
@Gheorgyi They're Swiss. And not everyone from Edinburgh wears kilts all the time. How can you not understand how talented these men are? I know if I was ever that good, I'd want to share my talent with the world as these men are, not exhibiting myself for money.
My beau went to see the Military Tattoo several years ago, all he remembers is the "Swiss drummers" because they were the best then and seem to be the best now. I can see why - very awesome experience; I hope to go someday. (PS. I'm American and we aren't the best at everything. Case in point.)
First, I'd like to say this is probably the cleanest playing I've ever seen, secondly, did anyone notice the guy dropping the stick at 1:49? You can barely see it, and then it's shown on the floor throughout the rest of the video
I'm an American and even I know that the techniques used by every collegiate drumline comes from the Swiss drummers. We add our own pop twist and try to make it more entertaining. But technically nobody holds a candle to these guys.
I agree that you helped us form, but need I remind you who helped save you in the 1940's? And who paid to rebuild you, and might I add, money out of my paycheck is still paying for your rebuilding!? Thank you though for uploading this video, it is amazing.
Hmm...methinks I'll be showing this to my drumline as proof of what they COULD do. Very well done. A few minor inconsistencies here and there (such as keeping the sticks at a uniform height), but far better than I'm sure I could manage.
Otterinbham, this type of drumming is the basics for US & Canadian drumming. However good US & Canadian drummers are, they've learnt it from the Europeans, especially the 600+ year old Swiss Drumming tradition.
damn that was good, anyone ever seen the movie "drumline" ill put money on it that the last song in that movie was based off this, because i highly doubt the swiss would steal a beat out of an american movie
no offence but if you play the snare's for 5 yours you could play this it just take a little bit of practesing what if you do same stuff everyday eventualy you could do this in a mater of weeks =)
I would have loved to see this live. Makes me want to be a percussionist! Incredible and awesome performance!!

Lolololol "wow" was most definitely not scripted!
If only my high school drumline could do this...lol. We came out 4th in the state, but most of our basses hated practicing....all well

"drumline is so dominated by Americans."
What? Do you live under a log? Keep smiling. :-)
Imagine having just one of these guys in your band! You'd have more rhythm than Gershwin!!
Pretty cool. But the drum-to-stuff was being done in American and Canadian drum corps in the 70s. Some good compositional stuff, but still 20 years behind BD, SV, and the Phantom Regiment.
Hah, these guys put the movie Drumline to shame. ;)
i have seen them live and they play awsome, but one little detail, if some of them loses a stick they have at least 2 reserve sticks on the side!
Awesomecool.
Wow, just wow! I guess banking isn't the only thing the Swiss excel at. :D
Do you expect to be posting this years performance ( I already know that they'll be performing
11,000 drumsticks in 15 years is about 2 per day. That's a pair of drumsticks every day!

Unterlegend, America wasnt created as a country, America is a continent, and was always there, so read more please.
Im guessing there are more drummers, only a few went on parade.
FANtastic - pretty stick -also
if i was a drumline section leader, i'd show this to my section
Hueregeil (as we say in Switzerland)
Move to Switzerland?
LOL 5:00 - 5:07 sounds like a huge steamtrain
this stuff killed me
Never again shall you wonder why the drumline gets all the chicks!
!!!!
Pshhh..I don't think you can keep a troop of drummers top secret for very long. "What is that noise? That surround sound is badass! Oh, wait, it's alot of dudes playing very loud percussion instruments."
I don't agree with doeby1, you can only pull this off if you are VERY VERY talented and certanly not in "a matter of weeks".
gtz.
amazing! our drum solo seems terrible compared to this!
I've been a percussionist for most part of my life but none of my skills come close to this. This is an amazing performance!
If they's playiing in George Square.
I'm There.
Watch for a noo routine 2009 vid.
Hopefully, I can catch it on video.
I rate TSCP.
Saw them last night. Absolutely amazing. At the end, they lit their drumsticks on fire and played with flames!
I would kill to have this sort of precision when I drum. Absolutely amazing performance.
PRECISION: That's the only word I can say to them. When we talk about precision, we talk about the Swiss. Precision watches, precision tools, precision everything, Go for PRECISION.
Wow 1st Class A1 10 out of 10 what more can you say about that that is the best I have ever seen well done Switzerland

You just worped my mind - truly a wonderful performance in all its splender and glory. Fantastic Post Thanks -

Que maravilha, sincronismo, habilidade, arte, tudo ao mesmo tempo, um espetáculo para os olhos e os ouvidos.
Unbelievably great performance. Thanks so much for posting!
I think you didnt understand what they exactly tried. and the drums they have never play "clean" as US-drums do.

drumline is so dominated by Americans, it's weird seeing and hearing about European lines, even though that's where marching originated.
Love this!
(I am NOT going to start about the 'american-topic' lol)
i dont think there pearls if there "top secrect" and go through 1000 pairs of drums stick i think there andanties...
i play snare drum and a lot of snare drums are tuned high personally for me in high school because it's all on the taste and personally we feel better as a snareline being able to play as perfectly as possible with a harder circumstance and feel the drum sound more of a tat and and is louder over the band to be able to lead the band in what needs to be accomplished like in the original military.
