This review made me pull the trigger and get the GIVI windshield. Thanks Matt. It made a great difference. I no longer have the wind pushing my helmet around and that made longer distance highway rides much more enjoyable.
I too, purchased this set up from Capri-Moto after six months of waiting for a stateside dealer having both the screen and the bracket available at the same time. I placed my order in mid-November and it arrived in 7 days. I’ll keep Capri-Moto on my “check first” list in the future.
Hello. It was a surprise to find this channel. I have also made the decision to enjoy the bike again without suffering from the excessive weight that both penalizes when the bike falls off or to perform any type of manoeuvre. The GIVI display of the 790 you've mounted was the first thing I put on my 390 Adv. Defenses KTM, KTM Aluminum Radiator Protector, base extension of the easel, GIVI saddlebags that it already had and a large 58-litre Givi Trekker Outback trunk that I use only for daily in a large city or trips on good asphalt and is a versatile and almost perfect bike. Nor does it need much more this Adventure, which maybe a little height on its handlebars that I will soon solve with some lifts. The large GIVI display forced me to change the rearview mirrors earlier than I thought, as they stuck on the screen when twisting the handlebars to the full. Standard mirrors are heavy and rigid and are not suitable for the field. I also use for long scrollers a Touratech brand deflector that goes fantastic, although now I have seen on Aliexpress some deflector much cheaper and that does not look bad. I see you use RAM-based mirrors that are fantastic. I am from Spain and use RAM for GPS and telephony, many years ago and there is nothing like it in motorcycle, boat, car and MTB and pass, besides one vehicle to another over the years. I sold my BMW F800Gs and my Beta ALP 200 and now, like you, pilot a light and happy KTM 390 Adventure. I've been totally right about the change. I do with the small KTM 390 everything I used to do with the GS but much more comfortable, lighter and safer, because as you know its cushioning, brakes and lighting are very good. With the BMW rolling alone and loaded I've come to have a really hard time. The Ground ALP Beta is unrivalled, but the Katy is a fun and capable asphalt trail, with plenty of capacity for brown but has limitations for weight-mounting and mixed tires without real studs. I use the translator and I hope you understand each other well. Greetings from far away Europe.
Thanks for another great video Matt👍 I just installed the GIVI smoked version of this on my 390 this morning, and those Italians really know how to make shit right! Very solid, and looks great.😎
Wow, two years since I saw this video and ordered the screen. I am considering installing it on my 790 as the Airflow vibrates more on the 790 than the 390. No idea why RUclips out this video on my feed, but have a free view Matt! 😉 - Frank
I found the standard screen made turbulent air so its noisy. Tried the 790S high screen but no better, as you sit on top of the 390, and lower into the 790. Solution for noise - removed the screen completely. Much quieter. Just like standing on the pegs. A good option in fine weather.
I have been playing around to try and get better wind protection without the noise. It is a bit challenging. I think I would prefer the wind protection because I do long miles for this bike, 300 mile days with some offroad. Everything is a compromise. Thanks for commenting.
Matt, I noticed on some of your newer videos that you have the deflector on the top of this windscreen. Did that help cure the buffeting? I am having a heck of time with the buffeting on my 390 ADV.
When I first saw the rally windscreen I almost impulsively purchased it, but the price was so high. It is a bit better now and looks really good. Maybe in the future. Cheers

I got this Givi windscreen after watching your video and my experience so far has been HORRIBLE. I'm 175cm/5ft9in and the wind that's blasting my helmet is causing crazy unbearable noise (I'm riding in Schuberth C4 Pro - a quiet helmet!) and quite a bit of buffeting. Now I'm back to the stock windscreen and looking for other options.
I had to put an extension on it. At the time it was the only option. Aomc.mx has a tall windscreen. I recently installed the Rade Garage rally screen. It's slightly better but still doesn't get the wind over my helmet. I liked that the Givi screen took wind off of my chest and shoulders which nice in bad weather, but not tall enough as you experienced. Look for windscreens for the 790/890 adventures, they should fit.
@@advmatt Givi has a 10cm taller "touring" windscreen for the 390, I'm considering that since it costs about the same as an extender where I live, plus the options in Europe are very limited and importing stuff from US is a paperwork nightmare and gets expensive real quick, been through that because I couldn't find any decent skidplate in Europe. How tall was your screen extender and did it fully push the wind over your helmet?
Thanks for the info Patrik. I'd rather have a clean air stream on my head and shoulders, than the noise and buffeting of the Givi windscreen. My bike came with a KTM 790 windscreen, which isn't too bad, but ordered an original 390 Adv. screen to give it a try. The buffeting and noise it causes, gets overlooked in many windscreen reviews although it's very important because it has a large impact on rider comfort and fatigue on long distance trips.
@@jollyjumper496 I am sorry, I didn't read your message fully. I had so many people ask for the part number on the screen. The tank bag is the Tusk Olympus Large bag. I don't know the part number. I think the only place to purchase the tank bag is from Rocky Mountain ATV/Motorcycle. It is a house brand. I plan to do a review of this bag in the next few months, I really like it and the price is great, $89, I think. Cheers
@@advmatt I too have this bag. The build quality is fantastic. The only issue I have is that I am really missing the expansion feature of previous bags, like the Rigg bag I have on my Dualsport. Fingers crossed RM makes an expanding bag.
Thanks !!! For all of your Videos. simple Q, do you feel it effect mpg ? even fast highway speed ? I can "cruse" 80 mph, but a lot of times I tucked in the very small air pocket resting my arms on my tank bag, so supper tucked , short periods okay, but gets old. So mpg effect at 70 and 80 ? thanks
At those speeds mpg isn't the best anyway, so my opinion is the wind screen has little effect on the gas mileage. I still get around 55mpg at those speeds. Thanks for the feedback.
You have put some miles on your 390A and made a few changes. I also want to change the windscreen. Have you done anything with the footpegs. The forward tilt on the pegs while seated is okay, but when standing, you only end up standing on the back edge of the peg. Looking the SW-Motech EVO Footrest kit or possibly the Pivot Pegz.
I am also looking at the Evo pegs, but Black Dog Cycle Works is also developing a peg I may wait for. I wear a pretty rigid boot so standing I dont notice the slant of the pegs.
@@advmatt I wear a stiff sole shoe as well and have left the rubber in the pegs as Colorado is very dry and mud and wet weather is not an issue so my boots never slip off the pegs. With the stiff soles and rubber inserts I never feel the angel while riding standing up
3:39 "Oh you gotta be kidding me" - what happened? Why did you take the side screws out to begin with? Is there a sub-bracket you did not show the main bracket attaches to? At first glance it looked like the main bracket is held on the same way the OEM screen was?
Great video, just one question though. I noticed your mirrors are mounted pretty low, is that due to the screen interfering with the bars reaching full lock when they are mounted higher? I ask because that's what I am running into with the KTM 790 Touring screen. (Which is why I was looking for a diggerent screen.)
It is few things. Mostly, if I put the mirrors in the high position all I see is my shoulders, I cant see behind me, and the was a little interference with the wind screen.
I think so, but it might depend on how it mounts. If it is a Givi screen you will need the mounting brackets. I think 790 and 890 screens are the same.
Hey Matt! Awesome videos! My son and I are new to adventure riding and we are really liking this KTM 390 ADVENTURE, we are planning to do the TAT for his high school graduation. 3 years to plan and build the bikes to our liking. Couple of questions, would you use this bike on this type adventure? Would you think the Rekluse clutch option a good idea? Any other tips appreciated!
I think the 390 Adventure is a brilliant bike for the TAT. It is light weight, plenty of power, and very manageable. Colorado has some challenging sections you might want to bypass if you don't have a lot of confidence but the bike is up for it. I am planning to release two videos in the next few weeks. One will be focused on my on road experience on this bike and the other will be focused on my offroad experience. I recommend a really good skid plate, change the mirrors, and some handguards and it is pretty close to ready to go. I would not hesitate to ride this bike anywhere. Once borders open up I am planning to ride mine to Baja. Thanks for watching and I hope to have the other videos out soon.
Oh yeah, forgot about the Rekluse clutch. I dont think this bike needs it. I have ridden bikes that the clutch really improves riding but the clutch on this bike is good, and doesnt stall very easily.

Thanks for posting this - just got my 390Adv a few weeks ago and was looking for a good highway screen. Speaking of highway, I haven't had a chance to get on the interstate yet so only have had the bike up to 65. How does it handle on 70+ roads for distance? Does it struggle or vibrate unbearably, or is it bearable for a few hours at a time? Thanks!
I have ridden a few 300 mile days on it. At 70mph the rpms are around 6200. Easy and comfortable cruising. Vibes really aren't that bad, nothing annoying. It will run at 80mph no problem. I try to avoid the interstate as much as possible, even on my big bike. This bike will do it, no problem, but being lighter wind buffeting will knock you around a bit more. I have a longer video planned to talk about this bikes road and offroad manners in a few weeks. Thanks for watching.

at which speed do you sit on the highway ? because i am looking to buy the bike, but as i live in Europe ( Belgium) i would like to be able to travel maybe 1000km on highway to get to cool destinations
Probably not. The windscreen will keep the wind off of your chest but will likely hit you around the chin, although your head may be in clean non turbulent air.
I find the bike to be the most comfortable between 6k and 8k RPMs, which at highway speeds on the flat is about 6k rpms for 65mph and just over 7k rpms at 80 mph. I have spent hours and days riding this bike at highway speeds. I dont like riding freeways, I prefer back roads with speed limits around 60mph. Not sure you saw I road this bike to La Paz, Baja and back. 2700 miles in 10 days. For me, it wasnt a problem. Hope this helps.
No, but I did expect some issues with the mirrors making contact. There was no issues. I think because the steering angles on this bike are short. The turning lock stops occur before any contact is made.
Hi Matt I recently purchased a 2021 390 and was horrified with how much wind I copped as well at 100km in Australia. Granted I am a bit taller than most a shade under 6'4 so I sort of understand I will cop some wind. I am hoping this may help me? Great content.
This windscreen will help but you will still feel the wind at your height. I usually run an extension as well to get the wind over my helmet. Thanks for commenting.
Givi/Kappa also do an airstream adjustable screen for the 790 which presumably would also fit the 390. I have one on my V-Strom, it ain't pretty but works really well...
Not sure what you mean. The front pegs are tilted forward so it is not a flat platform to stand on when riding offroad. Black Dog Cycle Works and SW Motech make replacement pegs to fix this. Hope that helps.
Hi Matt, I have the same bike and ended up taking the original windshield off last year because wind buffeting was too much. Would you recommend your GIVI windshield for a taller rider? I am 182cm or roughly 6ft tall. Would it work? There is another GIVI model that is 45cm long. Maybe that would be better?
The Givi wind screen I installed removed the wind from my chest and shoulders but my helmet was still in the wind. It's not bad, but because I have a helmet camera and a communication unit on my helmet the wind noise was still there. The buffeting was improved from the stock wind screen. I added an extension which helped a bunch for 100s of miles of road riding. You might want to use the tallest windscreen you can find.
Hi Matt, I made custom windshield from polycarbonate, and 3D printed mounts! Wondering if you want to test it out. Shield is cutted perfectly to match with ogrinal glass, and its simple 2 screws removal if you want to hit enduro. Reach me out if you want one, and i will send you pictures!
I will stick with the stock windscreen as I like the feel of the wind on my chest, would do 500 and 900 km with no windscreens, never a problem, you have to use your gut muscles to hold you up not your arms. Have a windscreen on my Versys 300 X and would take it off but I am going to trade it for the KTM 390 Adventure problem solved.
You can handle a lot I'd you can take the wind in your chest for that many miles. I can only do that one day because the it fatigues me so much. A long trip would be exhausting. The 390 Adv is a great bike.
@@advmatt was out on the DR650 to day, but did not dress for the cold and thinking the Versys X might of been a better pick for the cold or just put my heavy jack and chaps on. @@advmatthe is partially right. The base of the 790/890 screen frame is slightly wider so if you want to run a 890 screen you need the matching screen frame that it attaches to. Then it's goes on the 390, and looks better too

at which speed do you sit on the highway ? because i am looking to buy the bike, but as i live in Europe ( Belgium) i would like to be able to travel maybe 1000km on highway to get to cool destinations
I can ride comfortably at 105-110km/h all day. I have done 800km days on this bike. Those days can be a bit tiring but doable.
If I have the Off-road seat (an official ktm power part) that put me up about 2" (6cm), the wildshield is big enought for protect me from air??
Probably not. The windscreen will keep the wind off of your chest but will likely hit you around the chin, although your head may be in clean non turbulent air.
@@advmatt okok thank you 👍
Matt do you find the 390 is "buzzy" at freeway speed. Can you ride long distance comfortably? Thx
@@advmatt thanks Matt for the reply. I will check out the videos.
No issues with the windscreen together with the handlebar risers?
No, but I did expect some issues with the mirrors making contact. There was no issues. I think because the steering angles on this bike are short. The turning lock stops occur before any contact is made.
Hi Matt
I recently purchased a 2021 390 and was horrified with how much wind I copped as well at 100km in Australia.
Thanks, I will take a look at it.
Could you put the link to the product? Also do they have transparent option? Thanks for sharing.
I didnt see a clear option. Look for Givi 7710D. Capri Moto didnt have the screen listed but a search for the part number will have numerous results.
Man, you can always tell a happy biker by the amount of bug's on there teeth !
Can you address the issues with the foot pegs on the 390?
Not sure what you mean. The front pegs are tilted forward so it is not a flat platform to stand on when riding offroad. Black Dog Cycle Works and SW Motech make replacement pegs to fix this. Hope that helps.
Hi Matt,
I have the same bike and ended up taking the original windshield off last year because wind buffeting was too much.
@@advmatt thanks for the info. The Givi windshield I have in mind is about 10cm taller so I'll take that.
Hi, what is the specific model?
Givi 7710D
Thanks.
Yeah, send me some pictures at advmattx2@gmail.com. I look forward to seeing what you put together.
It was quite nice this morning when I was out on the Suzuki S40. But late afternoon once I got along the ocean the temp dropped quite a bit. That is spring in PEI never know from one hour to the next, what mother nature is going to through at you. But when I hit some sandy spots I was glad I was on the DR. Much better tires on it.
To prevent confusion : ktm oem 790 screens do NOT fit the 390.
Are you sure about that? The 390 Adventure shares the same front end with the 790/890 adventures.
@@advmatthe is partially right. The base of the 790/890 screen frame is slightly wider so if you want to run a 890 screen you need the matching screen frame that it attaches to. Then it's goes on the 390, and looks better too
