I'm not very experienced with the game, but I have been using fishing lodges. You mention 17 fish per batch and compare it to 200+ per season for farms and ranches. At 170% efficiency, one of my fishing lodges produces 86 fish per season (17 per batch, they are quick batches). Comparing batches to seasonal yields is misleading. I won't argue that they are better than other food sources, but (correct me if I'm wrong) there are some advantages. - It takes up very little land area compared to ranches and farms - It starts generating food immediately. Farms take time for the first crop and ranches take time to get up to max animals. - Batches come in often and consistently, dramatically more often than farms especially! One of the big downsides is that it's more labor intensive than ranches. Ties up 2 workers. Farms use many more workers, but only for sowing and harvest. Finally, food variety increases happiness! Maybe buying for variety is better, but at least early on I feel like I need my trade capacity for other things. Please let me know if any of this is wrong!
😂 I opened the messages to say exactly this. I completely agree. I have 2 fishing lodges #1=147/season #2=100/season while my 60 plot Cabbage with 98% fertility, windmill, and lvl3 farming tech only gives me 120/year. Also, by getting fish, I can use some of those farms for things like cotton, medicine, etc.
the only tip i have a problem with is the fishing tip becouse yes it only produces 17 fish a batch but it produces about 200-300 fish a season if upgraded to around 150% or more plus it can start on a good fishing ground with up to 130% productivity or even more if you are lucky
I came down to the comments to say just this. If you pick your fishing spots right the food production and consistency really is only rivaled by breads and cattle farms. For a very early game option that lasts long into a playthrough it's fantastic.
@@dipping_stock9656 when your food is too far away from the homes the will die by starvation regardles of how much food you have otherwise they will eat everything aslong as they can Reach IT in time
@@timz5106 i tried to use fishing when not farming summer/winter kinda thing, fishing doesn't keep up and i've put fishing docks as much as i could as long as it was over 90% efficiency and had production/passion on all of them, was getting around 40-45 fish per trip and even with speed boost, I couldn't keep up.
Hey Zaethos, when talking about stone tools a friend of mine and I tested it and I think you are correct. It is less efficient to make them when compared to buying iron tools and not producing any stone tools. I could be wrong but we played several deity test games and as long as you get your cash crop up first year it is better. Keep up the great work man its building the Kingdoms community.
Thank you so much for your video - really appreciate your great work and helping others. I disagree on one point only. When playing on Deity I was watching very closely how citizens were using medicine. They would quit their job as soon as they would loose just one point of health and regardless whether it was the med-plant or more expensive medicine they would use it to heal that one point! So in all my games I stopped using the expensive medicine as to me its as inefficient as fishing lodges or coal mines. The only time it would make sense to use it, is when the medicine is so far away that by the time your citizen gets there he would loose a lot of health - then the expensive medicine heals more than the cheap one - but I would rather question the village design if they have too walk super far to get the medicine, so overall the expensive medicine is not worth it.
so, as i tend to play and restart often (due to learning newer things) i almost always go for coal mines, yes it could be better to use charcoal makers, but wood is super annoying to manage in early game. Coal mines tend to offset that issue and save wood. i almost always set up wood production outside of my central province and keep it going using foresters. and it keeps up. but....all information is good information.
People think this video has been made yesterday - a lot of this has been changed. Some of the tips are still valid, but the majority are not especially for early game. Thanks for the tips anyway!
Do you have any tips for producing wood? So many buildings require wood, like to build a farm or operate a bakery, so what's the best way to efficiently produce wood?
I typically buy a new province and then mass clear cut it if I am able to. The buy wood card is okay if you have the money or need a quick injection of wood. You can also put down two or three foresters next to each other in the corner of your city and they will give you a steady amount of wood. Foresters are good when you aren't near tons of forests to mass clear cut.
Gotta say clear cutting a new territory is definitely the best option. Foresters take up too much space and slow down expansion too much. Save up to either buy a new province or just buy the wood. That space could be much more efficiently used.
im produsing wood first 20-30 min, then i just buy it with cards and never focus on it any more couse woodcuters takes a lot of clear territory which can be use for better goods and better logistic
My Fishing (sea-side) and Ranch seems opposite in numbers compared to your numbers. I get so much fish, I'm basicly keep trading them -360 by -360 and never run out, meanwhile the ranch gives like 20 meat I don't know why.
The most recent patch improved fishing quite a lot while nerfing ranches. I think fishing is quite good now, whereas ranches are useful but only in certain situations.
Do you need to bother assigning delivery points for production buildings? I can't be bothered and am hoping they always just pick the nearest available storage?
Great tip, once you're able to trade with AI you can spend 5k for 50 villagers, great when alot of peeps just died or something The AI does need at least 30 peeps themselves though I think, and it can take a while for them to grow again

Note his video is 6 months of patches and balances in the past. But I would say early game you’re correct but eventually farming is the way to go

They did get buffed after all
Are your citizens picky when low in food? I had a good amount of fish but still died some.

That's really good to know! I think getting your crops up the first year is a game changer. It gives you so much money so quickly.
Just saw this video, really appreciate the quality of the tips!
Iron tools only if you have Iron mine near. Mine had to wait 6provinces away.
This is amazing, thanks. I will try this out.
Really good tips, as they also reflect my experience from brutal and deity gameplays :D

keep collecting the cards that allows you buying wood for half of your money - in later game I find them priceless!

Just choose the shogunate, grow rice fields and turn them into sake. Sell them and get unlimited money
i keep seeing people say ranches are so good, they seem slow to me and the production amount changes all the time per ranch, per anything really

But also, if you lose people and another player doesnt, you lose labor and thus your lead
Need a new guide :p. Fishing is OP. I could run the whole thing on fish and free trade in desert biome.

Tnx for video
I once mis-macro’d and lost 500 of my 2500 pops, and I was fine.
Thanks
