    Another thing to note is that raw goods aren't taken directly to a production building, it goes to storage first, so having storage for that good nearby is another way to cut down on travel. IE: Clay goes to storage before it goes to the potter or brickmaker, so having the storeyard between the claypit and potter/brickmaker will speed things up too.

      I was under the impression that sometimes raw goods could go directly from producer to production building. I still have a lot to learn about this game!

    Well done video! Very informative, will definitely be changing the way I look at logistics from now on.

    hahaha, i made a comment about the coal vs charcoal in your other video prior to seeing this, now the charcoal makers being more accomodating for placement purpose. does make the use of them much more compelling

    I appreciate you taking the time to explain these mechanics; I find myself getting frustrated with failure caused by unknown (by me) reasons.
    I do have a couple of questions (I am getting back into the game after being away for a long time):
    1 - will workers move into the house closest to their job? If not, are you able to move them (either between jobs or homes)?
    2 - are farms still variable sizes? If so, have you found an ideal size for efficiency?
    Thanks again-keep up the good work.

      Workers are automatically matched with jobs closest to their houses. It seems to update regularly so I have not had issues with workers working jobs super far away. I do not know if workers will physically move to an unoccupied house closer to their jobs, but if that house is filled by a new worker, the new worker can take over the job if it is closer. I don't think there is a way to force workers to move.
      The optimal farm size is 64. It is the largest you can make a farm and have it only be worked by one worker. You could also do something like 128 and have it be worked by two workers.

    Is it ok to have houses level up before they r supposed to?
    Like m at enlightenment age so i should have upto lev 6 houses but I started importing tier 3 goods which is leveling up my houses even more...
    Should i continue to import tier 3 items or go back to lev 6 houses?

    • @zaethosgames8671
      @zaethosgames8671  2 года назад

      Leveling up your houses is always great as long as your city has all of its needs met. It gives you more money and science for every house that has leveled up.

    It´s one of the most important yet neglected aspects of city building, villager AI. A lot of people are praising Farthest Frontier for its looks but the AI is abysmal, a builder will get one log and travel a long distance to add something to a building site when he could have gotten the 10 wood needed in the stockyard just 10 meters from where he got the log.
    Placing buildings is not the foundation of a city builder, moving numbers is. Anyone with a little skill can create an empty beautiful city with small buildings in a game engine, the hard part is making sure the underlying mechanics for any number chain is properly carried out, only Dawn of Man has thus far impressed me the most by doing the basics in an orderly fashion, nothing is perfect and the title has its flaws.
    I tend to look at the micro of things when playing a city builder, when does the villager rest, how much can he carry, how does he go about distances, does he have a radius or is he unbound, does he behave in a logical manner in regard to logistics and own need, does the AI move villagers closer to their working spots. Havn´t bought this title but after watching the video I am not so sure I will, I don´t understand why devs can´t get the inspiration and knowledge needed from other sims and build upon what is already known, it´s like everyone starts from scratch.

    How did you grow so large, and get such a large population, by year 5? I haven't played the game on the easier difficulties yet, so I might be mistaken, but your city seems impossible to me. I am kind of asking if your footage is from an actual playthrough since I want to know if I should be capable of expanding that quickly.

      Well If its on easy or normal you can pretty much Just Spam the Houses an the produktionbuildings when He Gets them, since He has so many people for Labor He can also get the Wood for this pretty fast. I suppose thats how He did it.

      on easy and normal, its stupid easy to get a large population quickly. i prioritize food and indsustry early in order to support larger populations. then i start the growth. and it often times will get away from me and i have overpopulation. usually on a good run i hit 400 pop on normal by year 3. but my avg is about 150

    If Haulers are so much better, why have Labourers at all?

    • @kevinjon01
      @kevinjon01 10 месяцев назад

      Haulers who have carts to carry around, this unlocks in the storage depot. Laborers are unemployed people who either gather stuff on the map or gets employed in new production buildings.

    But what if your trading ports are far off your city center? Do you then rely solely on the trading posts?
    And what's best for longer production chains, like say iron tools. Build a mine with a storage and set it to deliver near your city center and have your smelters and smiths there? I find my idiots constantly moving across the city to get tools from the smith
