  • On 13th of April, 1919, the joyous festival of Baisakhi turned into a tragic event that shook the
nation to its core. Colonel Reginald Edward Harry Dyer, an officer of the British Indian Army, commanded his troops to open fire on a non-violent gathering of unarmed civilians, men, women and children, at the Jallianwala Bagh, Amritsar. This came to be known as the Amritsar Massacre, and Dryer himself earned the moniker - The Butcher Of Amritsar.
