- In the final episode of our major documentary series, we focus on Wentworth Woodhouse itself and its claim to have the longest façade of any country house in Britain.
The 20th Century history of Wentworth Woodhouse is a fascinating one and we're incredibly lucky that such a huge house survived the economic, social and political changes of the 1950's in particular.
This video contains the 'big reveal' about the longest façade and celebrates the involvement and support of the teams from Hopetoun House, Stowe House, Historic England, Historic Environment Scotland and Donald Insall Associates.

I’m glad these old ladies are finally getting the love they deserve. They are historical treasures that need to be useful and loved. Thanks
Such a wonderful series. Thanks!
Glad you like the videos!
Thank you for sharing. It's always a pleasure, informative, and you all are appreciated. Blessings. 🙋♂️
Thanks for watching!
Well thanks for the journey to find the longest frontage but I think that the jury may still be out. Thanks wentworth wood house.
We shall see :-)
In Part 1, Tony does say that if 50 architects get asked what a facade actually is, you'll get 100 different answers, so who knows!
This series of videos was actually conceived as a pilot for some work that we hope do in 2024, where we'd compare the work being done at Wentworth Woodhouse with similar programmes at other heritage sites across the UK. As soon as we know if the larger series will go ahead, we'll announce it in the Community Posts section on this channel.
1. Wentworth Woodhouse (unquestionably the one with the actual longest facade)
2. Stowe House (this one is insanely grand, but the main main huge facade was shorter than Wentworth and Hopetoun but if you add the non-visible tiny wing, it's the longest)
3. Hopetoun House (garden walls and the the stable hardly count as facade, rightfully so it doesn't look very grand)
Looks to me someone gas applied Modern varnish to the oak panels
