I love how Tony takes time to teach the kids there and really involve them in their history.
Not only hair! Phil's hat has no sweat stains! It actually looks brand new! A new way of dating old episodes of Time Team 😆!
Instilling a sense of cultural pride in people is a wonderful thing. Involving the young man on suspension from school was a great thing to do. You never know how much the experience might change his life. Very nice episode.
He's in his late thirties just like me now. Wonder what he's done
I’m a Yank living over here in Pennsylvania, British history is fascinating! I’ve learned so much but what I use all the time from watching these time teams incessantly that my friends hate are look mates “Lump and Bumps” and that’s all “Higldy pigldy” ..... wish America had a show this interesting, but all we can dig up to show the Brits is a 1927 Ford pickup truck :)
The blokes are so young in this episode - they still have hair!!
I know right? Makes me feel so old!😂
Hair that has color! They look good, yes?
Except for Mick. I think he was born old looking. :)
I like the ones with Ruth and Peter, and the scraggly white one
"So how long have you been suspended for?" Love that lol.
This must have the wrong title. I kept waiting for them to discover the grave.
And the description is wrong, too. I've been confused this whole time, I thought I accidentally took two painkillers!
and now we are all searching for the video that relates to the title we clicked on - frustrating grrrrr
@@Lerie2010able and all the rest of you: when you find the correct video, please tell the rest of us?
I've realised, after hours of watching TT and reading the comments that the commentators, as a body, should be thanked for their good manners. I've seen one single F and the word written out once. There are the few people who 'Ew!' at the length of Phil's right-hand nails and one or two who carp at Sir Tony's questions to the archaeologists, but generally, as a group, you deserve the thanks of all of us for this civil discourse. Such a pleasure to read your comments: thank you!
Saxon is still touring and releasing albums.
Old soldiers never die
Lol
I love this channel as they have the series about restoring a castle and we learn about how they even used plaster on their inside walls and had lavish furniture which blew my mind I had absolutely no idea but it's amazing how much there able to find
This was really interesting but the sweater game of the people in this video is FIRE!
mick had a habit of wearing promo t shirts from digs and so forth so they made him wear a jumper lol
Ahh the 90’s. Take me back. A lot of those kids are my cohorts.
I love the pub scene. They look like they all come from different centuries, themselves.
I was born and raised about 4 miles away and my grandparents lived on Hylton Castle estate. I havent seen it since i left in 1968. The estate looks so run-down, even when this program was made
Based on the football kits this appears to be around 1994 incase anyone else was wondering
Phil and Mick always wear the same shirt. Phil in the tan plaid and Mick with the stripped sweater. Maybe it's their lucky shirts lol
Mick used to wear dark colors then viewers started to send in colored sweaters, hats, and gloves. If one looks close; you can see the subtle differences in the colors.
Great video, but not at all an excavation of a Saxon graves.
This video is more than halfway to being archaeology itself.
I want to see the Saxon Grave episode! As interesting at this was, It's not what the title says

Time Team Time Travel? I love it. But how old is this episode? 15 Years?
More then that. Wiki says it first aired on 15 January 1995 under the title of "The Saxon Graves"
Just subtract one inch of tonys hair for every year and you'll have your answer😆
Pardon, looking at the wrong one due to ep title and description. It was 5 February 1995 under the title of "Medieval Dining Hall"
I absolutely love the patchwork shirt omg
The community lady's sweater? Me too
Not exactly sure how research on a castle first built around the time of Henry IV relates to a Saxon grave...
I was wondering that myself
No no no no yes! Everything, just about everything can be related to saxon graves! Watch more Time Team and the logic will be revealed to you! Lol
Why did the church warden chop off The baron’s legs?
He was a church warden. They do that kind of things. Lol. Perhaps his wife wanted a nice pair of stands for her potted plants? 😁
Wonder why the legs were cut off of the effigy?
Could be the reformation maybe. Possibly a crafty mason cutting costs by reusing them, both just guesses
@@joshschneider9766 , Or somebody who wanted to place something else there and the legs were in his way?
The moment I saw this castle, I wanted it
I love the actual archaeologists--Mick, Phil, and Carenza, and John, the geophysical expert. They know what they are doing, and they are not trying to be gratuitously funny.
I miss shows like these. Kids will never know how good public access used to be in the 80s and 90s in the U.S... we used to catch so many amazing British shows on PBS...
And don't even get me started on how good animal documentaries/Savanah africa/rain forest shows with that awesome British narratar...
I totally didn't see that was Tony standing with the kids at the geophys at first 😂 I thought it was 3 kids.
So cool!
Wow! This is the way they dress up back in the 90'is
That accent! Survey comes out as “Survyeh”.
Oh hello Baldrick
What's really weird is that the Baron had a kid, who had a kid, who had a kid, who...............had a kid, who had me. It's bizarre.
That's a miracle that those two land surveyors showed up the same day as this video was being madr
More likely phone calls being made during pre production hehe
Love the very beginning - Time Team was Channel 4 and Tony refers to the tower as a graffiti covered version of the TARDIS! A little BBC crossover there! :)
Was here December/2/2020
I like this show! :-o
I think the river Weir flowed closer to where the garden was.
In the Google satellite photos of the site look like its under construction. But in the 2020 photos of the outside I don't see any. Did they do more restoration?
God damn it Baldrick
Was waiting for the Lovejoy lookalike to find some sort of antique to go off on...
Wow that hair...LOL I was a teenager in the 90s so I get it. And regret it.
judging from the clothing this was taped late 80s, early 90s ?
He looks so young..lol and I remember when it originally aired
tony was unnecessarily rude about its look and the defence by the locals was very touching. Tony is not usually rude and insensitive. he should swallow his statements and just ask questions. i've gone right off him.
2:32 what song did they use?
Why did the church warden remove the legs of William Hyltons' legs in the 19th century?
OH MY GOD HE IS SO YOUNG
This was the first episode to reference parch marks.
Mick has clearly never made trifle
This is my ancestor's castle. Hylton's castle.
Terry Jones proofed this as well as others. This was never abandoned.
There was also a chapel there I have pictures. There was first was a wooden castle built in 900 A.D. William de Hilton built a stone castle in place of the wooden castle in 1000 A.D.
THIS STORY IS INCORRECT BY THESE PRODUCERS OF THIS FILMS.
FACTS AND RESEARCHED BY MANY
they were all younger and less grumpy :D
You called it Barron Williams Castle???
I'm a Hilton. So do it right. There's a 'crypt' site and you are near Washington (in England) grounds. Here there are England names everywhere. USA. Any hooked X's? What of the Katherine's church there?
What happened to looking for graves on some ones property that they can't build on :(
Did I miss something? Where are the Saxon graves?
What Saxon grave?
Wrong title. It's medieval dining hall
My blood family lives here WOW WOW
💚
Tony looks like a lost member of the Happy Mondays.
I think that I am related to the people that built this castle
Wow is this older video, tony has hair
Mid nineties
Is that Tony Robinson, this must be an old program or he just go 30 years younger.
yes and mid nineties
A show called time team. Over two hundred episodes over twenty seasons in all
It can from ninety three to twenty thirteen and there's now a RUclips channel called time team classics as well that is patreon funding a reboot
The running gag of time team was taking this guy who played a sidekick on every blackadder and wear him in the latest fashion in order to make "kids today take him serious" but every episode onwards he looks unintentionally funny and as he got older this only got worse, i love this show, but god damn they had to be doing this out of malice.
We knew Tony well, before Blackadder. He's a storyteller, children's presenter, serious actor, vice president of the actor's union, activist... So much more than just Baldrick.
No graves that's ok. I wouldn't want to be dug up in a thousand years
Anglo-Saxon*
Wrong title for the video. Theres no graves lol
You go read a couple books while we go dig it up,was that supposed to be funny because two men laughed, the netwit dug it up ,but not knowing what he dug up,he was to lazy to read
No, Phil was referring to at least two legs of archaeology: study and excavate. Not a nitwittish sort of utterance.
Gees, I never knew Tim ever had hair! I mean I know people have hair but he had hair, long hair!? Just try to not look at that hair. See, you can't
P.s. I call ole Tony,
Tim or Timmy
So WTF happened to the incredible Saxon grave excavation? Tres boring... 😞
Why would you even think about demolishing this Castle and develop it into some modern piece of crap?? It's a piece of British history that should be left alone and preserved for the future.🥀🥀🥀🏤
They were looking to develop the land around the castle. One of the statements was they didn’t want to build a tennis court over history.
Nice child labor! Haha!
bahahahah
I clicked but the intro was so long, with no info, that I decided to make this comment and leave. Don't waste my time.
Sometimes I feel like punching Tony..something to do with the constant whine in his voice!
