  • For years, I've intended to try powdered pigments to make colored paper mache clay. I finally did the experiment yesterday, and I've really excited about the results. Now I'm thinking up lots of projects that I could make with colored paper mache clay - and I hope you'll share some ideas, too. 😊
    You can find the original paper mache clay recipe here: www.ultimatepapermache.com/pa...
    That little piggy I showed you is in one of my books - you can find it here: amzn.to/1nMUO3a (affiliate link)
    The three-color set of powdered pigments that I'm using in the video: amzn.to/42xdfx6 (affiliate link)
    The site I found with more colors, and smaller containers: www.jacksonsart.com/en-us/col...
    The Pre-Coumbian Chiesco painted olla that I used as my model (sort of): shorturl.at/dek14
    And you can find patterns for the masks and sculptures behind me in the video (and many more) here: www.ultimatepapermache.com/pa...

    I was using acrylic paint mixed into my paper mach, what I found was some colours worked well, and others didn't. I then created Papercrete and mixed in the dry pigment, but i found there was a colour difference because I had to add a lot of pigment. What I ended up doing was added the color once I finished the project which I thought looked better.
    I'll try these pigment, I had found a company with a vast amount of colours, I'll follow up with it. Thank-you.

    That looks really good! And creating artefacts is a fabulous idea. I mix in my paperclay stone meal (not sure if it's the right word for it in English). Its usualy used in gardening to mix into the soil to add miinerals. I use different stone types and quantities to get different shades of colour. You have a lot of great ideas - and wonderful animals! Very inspiring! 💖✨🙏

    I don’t know how these would work with paper mache so you would have to test these. Watercolor pigment like Brusho Crystal Colours or Ken Oliver Color Burst might work. Jacquard Pearl-ex powder pigments are also available in small containers. You could play around with many colors without breaking the bank. What about mica powders that can be found on soap, candle and cosmetic-making websites? They probably work differently but also might be less expensive.

    Es preciosa esa vasija, realmente parece antigua. Se me ocurre que en lugar de ser hueca, podrías cubrir un recipiente de plástico (tipo yoghurt o similar), de esa forma Podrías poner agua para usarlo en flores frescas.
    Gracias por la idea de teñir con pigmentos en polvo. Saludos!

    I want to make/use the Giraffe or the Bongo Antilope which one do you recommend and or think is easiest

    • @Steven_cole
      @Steven_cole 5 месяцев назад +2

      I've done both, and i think that the bongo is easier and faster to make and paint, but ,the horns might take a little bit of time. But it will turn out amazing.

      Interesting! I made them both too, obviously. 😊 But they were made so long apart that I wouldn't have been able to answer this question. Thanks, Steve! I do think the new style of pattern that I'm making now, with the numbers on the edges like the bongo pattern, is helping to make them easier to put together.

      @@Asher_Aviation It will take patience, but if you go slowly, you shouldn't get to frustrated. If you run into problems, I"m always happy to help. My email address is on the first page of the pattern.

    I'm wondering if you can use chalk powder for the colors like from your chalks for drawing?

    • @UltimatePaperMache
      @UltimatePaperMache  5 месяцев назад

      I don't know - I don't have any, so I can't test it. You could make a small batch of the paper mache clay and do an experiment. And let us know what you find out.

    Has anyone used this to make plant pots? How did it work out?

    • @goilo888
      @goilo888 5 месяцев назад

      I don’t think that would work out well. Papier-mâché is not waterproof enough and would eventually rot.

    • @UltimatePaperMache
      @UltimatePaperMache  5 месяцев назад

      That's very true. You can make decorative pots, but it can't be used with standing water. Paper mache clay should be used like any other form of paper mache.

    • @boomboxpants
      @boomboxpants 5 месяцев назад

      I think it would depend on what you use to seal your pots with!?

    • @deerafl1979
      @deerafl1979 5 месяцев назад

      prbably you could make it into somekind of 'cover' (for example, you make a planter from plastic bottle, then you cover it with decorative pot made from papermache), or maybe paint a resin over the surface to create a waterproof top layer

  • @gwendakinniburgh2242

    How did you get the form out of the pot when it dried?

    • @UltimatePaperMache
      @UltimatePaperMache  5 месяцев назад +1

      It was just crumpled up plastic bags covered with masking tape. I just started pulling on one of the ends, and kept pulling. You do need to make sure that the inside layer of paper mache clay is dry all the way through, or the masking tape will stick to it.
